DWIGHT YORKE is up for sale and will make a shock move to either Fulham or Middlesbrough.

The two Premiership clubs were battling it out for the Manchester United striker's signature last night.

Yorke, 30, has been told he can leave Old Trafford now United are close to landing West Ham's Paolo Di Canio as a replacement.

A fee of close to £7million has already been discussed between Boro and United. But yesterday afternoon Fulham made contact and matched the fee.

Now Jean Tigana is trying to persuade the Londoners' owner Mohamed Fayed to make Yorke their top-paid player.

Yorke, currently on £25,000 a week, is after a final pay packet of around double that.

Spurs have also made an enquiry. But Boro and Fulham are much further down the line to a deal.

Boro boss Steve McClaren knows Yorke well from his time as Alex Ferguson's United No2.

The player also has friends at the Riverside from his Aston Villa days — defenders Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu and coach Steve Harrison.

A transfer will mark the end of an unhappy spell for Yorke. Last season he fell foul of Ferguson numerous times over his international commitments with Trinidad and Tobago.

This season he has been unable to hold down a first-team place.

His exit will follow that of his old striking partner Andy Cole to Blackburn.

The duo notched up 53 goals between them as United won the treble in 1998-99.

Yorke has never wanted to leave United. But, like Cole, he is desperate for regular first-team football — and he now knows that to get it he must move on.

If true, it is a better piece of news than us winning 3-1 and moving up 2nd in the EPL. No more silly grins in the field anyway.

I'm shocked if he's only on 25k a week. What a result! I thought he was on nearer 50. Anyway, this story is now carried on the BBC but events of the last few days don't inspire too much confidence in the rumoured transfer stories. Needless to say it seems that we can do without Yorke in terms of his recent performances and it seems inevitable that he won't recapture his best form at OT again. Just one thing nags at the back of my mind if we do get rid of him and that's the lack of cover up front, which can surely only mean that new arrivals are on the way.

Raoul on a scale 1-10 how happy are you if he leaves???I know you hate the guy.

Well, although I won't miss Yorke if he go but I don't hate him that much either. He still had his contribution to us in the past few years. I will be much more happy to hear "Di Canio signed!" than the left of Yorke.

hes not going to fulham because it looks like they got John Carew

I don't hate him at all. He's made his mark at OT, especially in 98-99 and with his performance against Arsenal last year. I'll never forget that riduculous looking Sombrero he wore at the Nou Camp.

However, his workrate has slacked off over the past 24 months and it would be better business to sell him now since he's 30 and buy a younger player to replace him. The usual suspects.

Yorke peaked in his career when he came to Manchester. It was a good buy then but no relationship last forever. Yorke has lost his desire because he's on the bench. Bye Yorkie hopefully you'll be off to Fulham. A fresh start is what you need.

Redissue are saying that he is definitely off...

YORKE DEFINITELY ON WAY

Fergie’s had more than enough and Yorke is being touted around the bargain basement clubs. Fulham and ‘Boro are interested with McClaren believed to have submitted a surprisingly good bid along with a decent contract offer. Yorke would probably prefer London but no doubt money will dictate.

i liked yourke...did well for us , his lack of enthusiasm is showing though...shame realy, i thought he would go on to be a great united striker after the 98-99 season, but iv been wrong before.

Doubt he's going to Fulham cuz apparently they've just signed Carew.

Agreed. He came on and did feck all t'other day and he hasn't made any impression for far too long to justify keeping him anymore.

£7 million would be good business.

Fulham are siging Carew. Boro can't afford Yorke & Boksics' wages together, so let's keep the Tabloids to ourselves.

Agreed. I remember watching Carew when he played for a Norwiegen outfit against Chelsea and I think he scored twice, he certainly impressed me.
But since he made the big step he has not really done it at Valencia, though for about £6 million it would be an alright peice of business.

Shock to who?

Sad tho - I hate change! Don't mind adding to the squad, but it's sad when some players go. Maybe Souness should try and get Yorke as well? That would be interesting.
