Assuming Kane and Rashford both make it fully fit, who would be in your 23 if you were picking now? For me I'd go -

Goalkeepers
Henderson
Pope
Pickford

Defenders
Alexander-Arnold
Walker
Chilwell
Rose
Maguire
Gomez
Stones
Smalling

Midfielders
Henderson
Winks
Rice
Maddison
Grealish
Alli

Forwards
Sterling
Rashford
Sancho
Kane
Abraham
Ings

I'd be tempted to give Henderson the captaincy over Kane too.

Right-back is probably the toughest position, with Trippier, Wan-Bissaka & Reece James all being candidates to go over Walker, but I prefer the most experienced player to be the back-up right back, and Walker is still starting at City.

The key question is who, if anyone, could sneak in as the wildcard? There's usually one young player who does...

Calvert Lewin? Williams? Greenwood?

If Calvert Lewin keeps it up then I think he has a chance, he offers something different. I think that the forward positions are as hard as the RB now. You have Kane/Ings/DCL/Abraham/Rashford who could all play as a Striker with Vardy too if you really needed him.

This might be an unpopular opinion but, I don't think Henderson will perform well without Klopp's tactics. Evidently during the world cup semi final, he was useless.

But sure, should bring him for experience though.

Would probably depend on injuries to current squad players before the tournament.

Let Henderson and Ox be runners like they are for Pool (I know Henderson offers more than just that before the Pool fans slate me) and let Maddison and Grealish create/run with it. Our midfield is fecking shite so there's no point in trying to shoe in a CDM like Rice and I'm fed up of us not going for it. In the World Cup we had the potential to go for it in games and we didn't do it enough. Screw it this time. Let's go as all our players have plenty of time to make WC 2022 a good one.

The second left back spot is up for grabs if Jose keeps Rose out the team, so maybe Bertrand, Shaw or Williams.

A number of players can breakthrough in midfield, with the only certainties being Henderson, Winks and Rice I think.

If Rashford and Kane miss the Euros then we may try to bring Vardy back otherwise, Ings, Calvert-Lewin or even Greenwood could get in depending on form.

A lot can change in the time between now and May (for example pick the squad on October Mason Mount was a shoe in, now not so much). On current form Henderson should probably be number 1, Heaton second but for his injury.

Reece James has to be selected if he keeps recent form up (three MOTM in a row), his added versatility (can play RCB and CM) will give Southgate added options.

The one thing I really hope however is Kane doesn't get selected if he's going to be lacking match fitness throughout the tournament, I'd go as far as saying i would turn against Southgate if he does that, rushing any player back has never proved to be a good idea, like ever.

Despite how poor everyone says United are doing not bad having Henderson, Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Williams, Rashford and Greenwood all in and around the squad. And that's 4 out of 6 from our own academy.

United showing the others how to develop players and promote within. Great stuff.

I think Tammy should get a chance and Reece James. The other Chelsea lads will be lucky to get the call though. Mount the most likely. From what I can see though RLC and CHO will be sat at home and Tomori will be behind Mings etc in the pecking order as he's faded recently.

4-5 months ago I rated England to do well and maybe even win it. Now the form is pretty bad from most players plus Rashford and Kane is injured.
Now the only position I would feel good about is goalkeeper if they use Henderson and right back with TAA.
Everything else got massive doubts about it apart from the Liverpool guys who are flying.
Sterlings form the biggest one, but the could find it before the tournament.

I do think England got more grit now though and all the keepers they got are great at pens which is a big bonus. Could be key to go far since many games will be tight.

I think as it stands it will be the other way round. As much as I love Mount if the squad was named today there's no way he should be named ahead of Grealish. Whereas I think Hudson Odoi is low-key playing himself into contention lately, especially if Kane's injured and Rashford is played at number 9 (freeing up a winger slot).

Honestly, due to his injury and likely lengthy recovery time I'd be tempted not to take Rashford.
