His goal catalogue is ridiculously impressive. Might not score many, but when he does they are absolute worldwide.
 
We have a quality midfield! It's been a long time since we could make that statement.
 
Not just great goals, but two big Midlands clubs probably have one of his goals in their Top 5 Favourite Ever Goals List, the cup final winner/ice-breaker ones.

I look forward to his 30 yarder in the last minute to win the League Cup Final against Norwich.

I thought we should have signed Fernandes (M) when his club got relegated, the first time around. I also thought we should have signed YT when Leicester went down. Quality footballer, great signing at 35M. Santos and Tielemans for the price of MF... I'm almost over that one now. Already! Thought I'd be sulking all summer and beyond.
 
Him and Mainoo sliding the short to long range passes through the middle will be fun. Like this signing when it's less than most of the other punts in the past decade and he can get stuck into pre-season in the next few weeks.
 
I'm happy with this one, he's a class player and raises the floor of our midfield a hell of a lot. Not too sure he could play next to Mainoo, unless Mainoo is being progressed towards the 6 position, but as an alternative he's ideal
 


Love an excuse to post this. Opens your eyes to just how quick the game is at this level.

There's a good chance we needed to give him something concrete to swing it for him if he was rejecting contract renewals from Villa and approaches from Saudi. Even with the long contract, it probably comes in at a cheaper overall package than a lot of the crazy transfer fees alone from this summer.

It's funny how we got him now, in a no fuss way and relatively cheap. He was a big muppet target years ago and has pretty much met or surpassed expectations. Hope he stays healthy, can't wait to see how he plays with our attackers

I am happy with this signing, signing him and Santos for a total fee equivalent to the Fernandes' 'money' is a smart piece of Business. Hopefully we look back and say that we made the better choice
 
How do we feel this midfield ranks in comparison to the Spurs Tonali and Fernandez £185m combination?
 
Great signing. Its been a long time since we had a playmaker of his calibre in the squad.

Brings alot of experience and is a leader too.

If we are being truthful, Tonali + Fernandez is probably slightly better on paper but with our current owners we could never afford it.

There will be plenty of debates whether Santos is better than Fernandez for the next few years I'm sure.

To me it looks like one of those things where players look better on paper (Spurs) but on average over the course of the season they will perform relatively the same. In fact if we play against them its possible the better midfield will be determined by home and away atmosphere than themselves.

Tonali and Mateus are both still upcoming players too so its not like they are ready made world class players. Granted they have the ability and time on their side.

On the other hand Tielemans is a well known quality, so he is as established as you can expect out of a PL midfielder and he has performed in finals too which proves he is no a bystander, to me a profile like him is needed after Casemiro left us. Andrey is a type of midfielder who likes to duel a lot and thats always handy to have, it is very important for PL midfielders to get involved both on and off the ball.

It makes me look back at the summers we spent chasing players that never came and wonder what the hell we were doing then.

INEOS having taken a fair bit of stick, but the transfers they've done have been fantastic. Great prices, normal wages and a mix of talented PL players and youngsters from abroad.

I'm excited to see us next season.

To me, it’s touch and go with
Tielemans>Tonali>Fernandes>Santos as per today, with Santos=Fernandes>Tonali>Tielemans as potential for the next five years.

Tottenham can’t afford more than we can, though, so the real comparison would be something like

Tonali+Fernandes vs Tielemans+Santos+Hall+Summerville

Considering the degree I feel all over our transfer business, be it here or via other sources, it blows my mind I found out about this sitting on the sofa via just "Tielemans?" in a group WhatsApp chat - having no knowledge whatsoever of any link. :lol:

I googled his name for immediate news on him and bang - Ornstein's announcement! It was almost surreal.
 
I think he’s a very good signing and despite the age, he gives the impression he could be a bit of a renaissance player in that he could reinvent himself as he got older and possibly be a more defensive minded centre mid who relies on anticipation rather than athleticism. If he keeps himself in good shape and is lucky with injuries, I think he could play at a good enough level until he’s 35-36.

He provides Mainoo with competition and a potential role model for him to follow as well. It’d be great if Mainoo at 29 would be of Tielemans’ quality now. It removes the burden of Bruno having to be the main playmaker because there were definitely some games last season where Bruno just didn’t turn up on the pitch and we looked awful.

Good leadership quality too. Need some more leaders on the pitch to get everyone going, especially for the younger players.
