We're going to play Blackburn in the next round as they beat Leyton Orient 1-0 tonight, Blackburn are actually top of the Academy North League so it will be a tough test for us.

Blackburn look impressive - but one should not forget the fact that they are a completely different side now - to the one that started the season so brilliantly. Not won a game in the league since november 21st

1-1 at home to Bolton today
1-1 away to Liverpool who are rock bottom now
0-0 at home to Everton
2-1 defeat away to WBA

True they are still top of the league - but 9 points in their last 7 games or 3 points in their last 4 - not exactly frightening.

And we are now 2 points behind Blackburn with a game in hand. Everton are 7 points behind us with 1 game in hand. No other teams have a realistic chance of getting involved at the top of the table.

Blackburn are a strong well organised team who are difficult to play against. Banton is their dangerman and Potts in midfield always plays well against us (we released him). If we play well we should beat them, but it will be a tricky game.

Worth looking at exactly who Blackburn beat at the start of the season too - no-one particularly impressive. Struggled in R4 against Orient too seemingly.

Ruud ftw
Is anybody going to this? It's apparently £3 on the door.
Was going to, but I'm going to go to the reserve game instead and catch the Youth Cup game on MUTV, who seem to be re-running it plenty over the next 24 hours but only showing reserve highlights.

I saw there was a reserve game tonight, surprised it wasn't rescheduled. I assume you'll keep us updated on the reserves?

I'm still intending on going to Blackburn work and traffic permitting.

Yes, especially since the injuries are clearing up and a few have returned from loan spells. The reserve line up will be interesting as you'd assume that any prospective loan players wouldn't be involved.

Scott Wootton's on the bench for the reserves, which is a surprise - would have thought he'd be a certain starter for the U18s. Assume that means one/both of Thorpe and Fornasier are fit again anyway.

Wootton is actually with the youth team.

Team News:

United

Conor Devlin
Reece Brown
Scott Wootton
Sean McGinty
Zeki Fryers
Nick Ajose
Paul Pogba
Ryan Tunnicliffe
Joshua King
Davide Petrucci
Will Keane

Subs:

John Cofie
Etzaz Hussain
Alberto Massacci
Ravel Morrison
Sam Johnstone

The MUTV graphics don't seem to be working so don't have the numbers or the Blackburn team. Banton, Potts and Phil Jones all starting for them (Jones has played 3 times for the first team this season apparently).

It's been raining all day so the pitch looks pretty heavy, could be a pretty physical game.

Blackurn lined up 4-5-1 with Hitchcock upfront on his own, flanked by Banton on the left and Evans (?) on the right.

Even start, Petrucci and Banton putting over dangerous crosses, no real chances created though.

Blackburn too cheap to get any ball boys.

First few chances - Banton crowded out in the box by Wootton and Brown, and at the other end a great through ball from Ajose to King just skids away from him and he's unable to get a meaningful shot in.

Jones booked for chopping Keane down when he would have been through on goal, pretty cynical but lucky there was cover.

Swann makes a good save from a Pogba header from the resultant quick free kick from Ajose. A bit more contact and he would have scored, but was just stretching a bit.

Great chance by Pogba. Keane was almost clear on goal before being brought down.

The lads are moving the ball well.

Good to see King back too, and Sir Alex watching

If Devlin makes it through to the first team, opposing fans everywhere would enjoy poking fun at him for looking like Ron Weasley...

Typical, their striker flattens Devlin in a challenge, they get a corner and score at the far post, Blackburn 1-0. Poor decision from the ref to ignore a clear foul and a goal totally against the run of play.
