Youth transfers and rumours thread.

Saw an account a while back say Noubissie was going back to Leicester, so this is interesting.

I would be suprised if we get both though. Especially as it limits our number of scholars for next year, a very strong & large group.
What’s the limit on how many scholars we can have per season?

30 across a two-year period. So say we sign Ridgeon, Noubissie & Hardy that would take us to 16 meaning we'd only be allowed 14 next year (unless anyone leaves but unlikely).

That's would mean quite a few of next year's very talented group would have to leave. Even more if we wanted to sign anyone else.

Well both have visited the training ground already and met everyone so presumably we should be in a good position to sign both

Do we have space from the previous year ? Also technically if you sign pro contract at 17, you are no longer a scholar . Both turn 17 before End of next season.
I have no idea on rules and i am just thinking out loud, we may end up signing one or maybe neither .

It's not necessarily scholarships, it's just you're only allowed 30 U18 eligible players. So Chido, even though he's in the first-team now, counts towards that number for example.

We signed 13 last year so have space for 17.

Wonder if we'll see couple of the first years to move on after this season. Likes Barbosa's situation might be similar to Kaba/Lawrence before?

The squad does seem to be a bit imbalanced if we sign both. Too many midfielders. A bit short on LB and forwards (quality wise)? Not like it's a big deal at this level but still.

I could be wrong but I don’t think the coaches see the u21s as a natural progression from the u18 competitions. Baumann seemed to play u21s football more frequently before u18s football for example. In that context it might be seen that we have a contingent of youth midfielders that will have a lot of playing time each in both the u21s and the u18 competitions and we’re not actually that stacked for numbers in midfield. It could also suggest that Fitzgerald will go on loan.

The u18s were on track for a treble winning season when Baumann played with the u21s. They simply had a good thing going in the u18s and Baumann couldn’t get a game so they pushed him to u21s. U21s is very easily a higher level, we just prioritised a league title and cup competitions for a short time. U21s is still very much the natural progression outside favouring some specific big u18s matches.

Fitzgerald has never played u21s football and was injured for the past 5-6 months or so. There is almost no chance he goes on loan.

Looks like both of the transfers aren't happening.

United don’t always get their way: the club thought they’d signed Fulham prodigy Seth Ridgeon, 16, last week, only for the West London club to offer England’s under-17 captain more money than they have ever offered a youth player before.

Andy Mitten confirms that Ridgeon isn't happening.

Interested to see if we do still go for a midfielder or leave it now. Leo Rodella (Southampton) & the brilliantly named Walter Nutter (Chelsea) are probably two of the best options available at the moment.

Surely we could have paid more and it's barely a drop in the ocean given what he could save us in transfer fees if he kicks on?

Must admit I don't see the glaring need for a midfielder in this U18 group (unless there's a 'can't miss' talent available obviously). I'd be more looking at another forward if we were to add anyone, although that's not factoring in those who might step up from the 16s. Think people see City stockpiling every summer and overreact a little.

Suprised we didn’t land ridgeon as we are showing a clear pathway is available and would have added value

We need to start adding value to our home grown though. City seem to draw in huge sums for kids leaving them and also have big sell on clauses. Looks like They are in for 10s of millions again this summer, somehow they even made money on us signing Mbeumo £6.5m reportedly!

Numbers business

Because Brentford signed him from Troyes, right? Although don't think they were part of the City group when he made that move. Just goes to highlight how mad the multiclub stuff is

Troyes had a sell on clause who are part of the "City group" but they sold Mbeumo before they were involved.

It seems to me that there is a race to push on and develop these young players much quicker. I wonder if anyone has a view on whether there is going to be an appetite at the club to effectively have two sets of 18s (encompassing some of the most talented younger players too) which move between the U18 and U21 leagues as appropriate and that players at 20+ will either be loaned out, have been promoted already to the 1st team squad or sold…

Don't think this will have any impact on them but his two younger brothers are both with us. Like last summer, Chelsea and City have seemingly scrapped their 'pact' and are going blow for blow.

Turns out one of them has in fact left and signed for Chelsea. I'm not sure about the other yet but I imagine the family has all moved to London so he probably has too.

Surprised at the lack of recruitment at academy level this season. Only one signing confirmed so far. Not sure if charli hardy one is happening or not.

Didn't we try for quite a few and were unsuccessful? That Fulham kid for one.

Hardy will be waiting for clearance from the PL. Should be days now, hopefully.

The first team tanking under Amorim could also be screwing the club's chances of attracting the better younger players.

Unless the first team looks back on the up again and at least properly competing for European places, then some of the top talents might be looking elsewhere for the time being.

I thought we are already full for scholarships in u21 and u18 who should be in lower age groups, maybe possible recruits will think it's hard to breakthrough and grab on of those scholarships. Our academy has a lot of players who are 18 or younger who are highly rated. Even our u21 are composed with a lot of players who are younger than 20

I thought this year's intake was quite poor overall. The only ones who may go further after watching and reading seem to be Helafu, McEvoy, Ngwashi and Jacob Watson, who I hear is very talented. Read Bradbury scores a lot like the other kid Charlie McNeill but not a lot else to his game.
Noah Ajayi (Forward)
Neithan Barbosa (Forward)
Nathaniel-Junior Brown (Forward)
Yuel Helafu (Defender)
Eddie Ibrovic-Fletcher (Midfielder)
Louie Bradbury (Forward)
Rafe McCormack (Defender)
Jay McEvoy (Midfielder)
Jayden Ngwashi (Defender)
Jariyah Shah (Midfielder)
Jacob Watson (Defender)
Zachary Watson (Goalkeeper)

It bothers me more than it should that Louis Bradbury has been listed as if he begins with L whereas the others are alphabetical by surname.

Bradbury may well end up more like McNeill and Norkett, but hopefully he can develop more to his game.

I love the old fashion number 9s. I hope he can progress to the first team in the next year or two.

The 18's really need a striker. JJ looked so much better when moved to left wing yesterday.

Adrian Janusz is listed as being on the bench for the 21s tonight. Keeper formerly on the books at Newcastle & Brentford, most recently at Ashington AFC.

Saw that and my mind keeps reading Adnan Januzaj initially.

In theory, should only be a matter of days before Charlie Hardy's signing is confirmed. All the other transfers at his age are starting to become official.

Apparently we have made an offer to the palmer twins (alongside city, chelsea, spurs, pool and arsenal) from boro (16 years old). They turn 17 next month and can sign their pro deal, boro will get training compensation. Both have announced they are leaving boro after 8 years at their academy.
