They've been called up to the training camp squad - first step to getting on the team. Abbie is a full England international of course, but I think this is the first callup for the other three.

Any bets on who which will be leaving in disgrace? Maybe one of them will smack Phil Neville or something

No worries
How comes there is no Mary Earps?
No Earps is a strange one, she was excellent on Sunday and she's been in the squad plenty of times before. Delighted for the others though, especially Zelem, Toone and Millie. Hopefully James and Galton will get their first call up soon as well.

Is he trying out new goalkeepers as well, seeing as he is giving Zelem, Toone and Millie Turner a chance to show themselves?

Delighted for Katie Zelem, it really seems deserved!

I think Mary Earps may be experiencing the usual problem of being the third choice keeper. A manager is going to use the berth to experiment with newer options or younger ones, particularly outside tournaments. Harsh but not that unreasonable.

Another aspect of the squad. Players who are based abroad haven't been included. The chances are that quarantine issues etc are going to play a big role in international football this season.

Delighted for them and think they've all deserved a chance, the first couple of years of this team have been such a positive for the club and this is reward for these particular players. Is there any indication what Russo and Wubben-Moy's plans are given the situation in the US?

Incidentally, just to throw another random fact into the story. Ella, Katie and Millie all played for United youth teams - but had to leave when they were 16 to join a senior team. They came back as soon as we started the team.

Abbie was a Bury youth player, before going of to City, but that's ok, she's a United fan, from a family of United fans

We've got the three players in the Welsh squad as well.

Chloe Williams and Carrie Jones play for our U21 team - but they've both been in the full Wales squad before. Chloe joined us last season, Carrie joined in the summer from Cardiff. Hayley Ladd is a Wales regular of course.

So with Alessia Russo signing we've now got a 5-a-side team away with England.

Meanwhile Groenen is with the Netherlands, Ladd (+ Williams and Jones from our U21s) with Wales, Batlle with Spain. Press and Heath will probably be in quarantine, somewhere in Manchester - but I'm sure they'll volunteer to play for the rest of the world side when they get out.

England don't have an international match this week, but the FA have decided to put their England v England training match on the FAPlayer today at 6pm. Apparently the two teams were chosen at the start of the week so they could prepare as if for a normal match. There should be enough United involvement to make it interesting.

Batlle should play for Spain tomorrow against Moldova.

Groenen should play for the Netherlands against Russia this afternoon.

Ladd should play for Wales against Norway on Tuesday.

Okvist is with Sweden's U21s but I think it's for a training camp not a match.

England's friendly ended with "home" - the team that Abbie and Alessia started for, and who Ella and Millie came on for - winning 3-0. Ellen White scored twice. Ella Toone got England's third with a header. :)

Russo not looking 100% sharp right now - but then she's only played 45 minutes this season, so that's not really a surprise. Smart positional play from her, but just lacking that half yard on the move that's the difference between getting a clear shot or not. Nice to see our players on the winning side though.

Well done. Great to hear Ella scored.

Ella Toone in the England squad. The others miss out.

Millie Turner's form since the new year hasn't been amazing. Alessia is injured. Katie Zelem has the quality but perhaps hasn't shown enough authority and consistency this season.

Huge number of City players in the squad. 3 from Arsenal, 3 Chelsea.

I totally missed that Riise is in charge. Norwegian legend, integral in the early dominance with the Euros in 93, World Cup in 95 and Olympics in 2000.

Ella Toone came on at half-time for England against Northern Ireland in a very one sided match. She played central midfield alongside Jill Scott. Had a curling shot from close to the edge of the area that went just wide and she scored a penalty. A bit strange seeing her in a deeper role. Her passing seemed fine while I was watching.

Riise's comments afterwards (from Emma Sanders' BBC article https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56172964 ): "Ella Toone, who I haven't seen that much, impressed me with her debut. Her passing, her vision for the game... She made it easy to find the pocket for the 10 player, easily, Her footwork, covering space... That was a good debut - and scoring a goal as well!"
