What's is the update on the corner extensions at Old Trafford. Has this been suspended due to Malcolm Glazer??

It's still going ahead.
Glazer made a statement that he doesn't intend to stop the extension. Not suprising really he's going to need the extra money from the increased capacity

It would be silly for them not to go ahead with the extension, i also hope they continue on with the casino.

Personally i think sports teams should not be allowed to be involved with any kind of gambling whatsoever.

As for the stadium expansion, if i was glazer i would take a wait and see approach to that, if the stadium's not full this season it will look even more empty with more seats installed...

I was there a week ago though and there are two crane's there so obviously it is going ahead as planned, which is the right move long-term.

As far as I am aware he was contractually obliged to carry on with the stadium expansion

They were. It would have cost a lot of money to break the crontract with the construction firm, not to mention all the money that would have been wasted on planning and consultation

Thats the goal, though i think i read somewhere that it might go behond the start of the season as well. It's a big job, hard to believe they'd be all done by August.

There's no much to see at this point, they've not really got undeway yet...
They have.

There's a huge crane behind each corner.............and they've started stripping the quadrants. Also, the roof of the corner that connects to the Strettie has been taken off.

They easily have it done before the end of next season.......perhaps even by Easter.

Ok, they must have really kicked off now then, i was inside OT the day after the fa cup final and there was nothing to see, at least from the inside there was nothing to see. Will be good to see the finished thing though.

I often wonder what would have happend if we had had some restrictions on growing the stadium - if say it was limited to 55k would we build a new stadium somewhere? we are just really lucky to be able to build on our existing stadium, it's partly what makes us such a great club but do you think if we'd have built a new stadium it would have taken anything away from us? i think it would but other clubs dont seem so bothered by that sort of thing and are forging ahead with new grounds. Certainly Man City are a lot happier were they are now...

They probably would've found a new site if they wereb't able to expand over 55k...

Well, I've talked to a few City fans and they don't feel like it's their home, still getting used to it I guess. Personally, I prefer what we've done.........the place is full of history and it will look amazing once it's fully completed. There are reports that Glazer's borrowed 90m to extend the South Stand.........if true it'll be interesting to see how the stadium'll take shape when it's completed.

That said, I don't mind the idea of playing around Newton Heath. I am a sucker for nostalgia. Won't happen, but that area is about to be regenerated and land prices are cheap................would've been an option had we not been able to extend Old Trafford. Talking about nostalgia, we were given first refusal of the 'Olympic' Stadium....had we accepted they would've constructed a 90,000 arena and not built the scaled down version. Would've been interesting that because United played only a few yards away on Bank St Clayton.......not many moons ago.

wow 90k what a stadium that would have been. though you couldnt walk away from OT it's just got to much history. I hope OT is still there 1000 years from now...

Right, was a bit cloudy yesterday, but is quite reasonable today! Should I go and take a photo or two? Got nowt else to do.

I could see it yesterday from the tram, and yes, there are two largish white cranes on site, one at each corner.

If it wasn't for these feckers Weastie we'd still have the club we love and it would be fifty five pence to get in...

It would probably be two pence anywhere in Manchester on the bus too.

fecking out of towners have ruined this club.

I said it years ago when we started letting the southerners in.

Mark my words the next thing you know you won't be able to get gravy in Lou Macaris chip shop.

feck 'em off Weastie!

Let 'em take their own bloody photos.

Right got some! Sorry, had a nice walk around Salford Quays and a few pints while I was at it, gorgeous afternoon.

I'll warn you though, they are all 2592x1944 unless I shrink them.

Give me time to get them of the camara and put them on some webspace. :)

They seem do have done what they said they were going to do BTW. The roof on both corners has been removed, and they are starting to build the curved outer shells. Thus not removing the existing seating, but rather ploping an extra seating deck on top of it.
