Interesting. Ruled out Rooney and Young to China completely. Young selected tomorrow. Bailly available so injury not bad but I doubt he starts.

PREVIEW: MANCHESTER UNITED V HULL CITY
When is it again? United’s Premier League match against Hull City will kick off at Old Trafford on Wednesday at 20:00 GMT. It will not be broadcast live in the UK but, fear not, you can of course follow it via ManUtd.com’s live blog and the club’s official Twitter account @ManUtd. MUTV subscribers can also watch Match Day Live from 19:00, featuring radio commentary on the game, and then the full 90 minutes from midnight.

Why do I have déjà vu? That’s probably because United and Hull are set to meet for the third time in only 23 days, following the two-legged EFL Cup semi-final. The Reds triumphed 3-2 on aggregate, after a 2-0 win at Old Trafford was followed by a 2-1 defeat at the KCOM Stadium. Of course, we also faced the Tigers back in August when Marcus Rashford’s goal secured a 1-0 league success in East Yorkshire.

Tell me more about last week… The Reds were beaten 2-1 on a freezing cold night in Hull, but in controversial circumstances following a dubious penalty decision that led to Tom Huddlestone opening the scoring in the first half. Paul Pogba deservedly equalised after the break before Oumar Niasse hit a late winner, yet that was not enough to change the outcome of the semi-final. Southampton will provide United's opposition in the upcoming EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 26 February.

We’re back to the Premier League… After back-to-back domestic cup outings, it’s worth reminding ourselves of the current state of play in the table: United are sixth after 22 matches played and two points behind fifth-placed rivals Manchester City, who have a difficult game against West Ham at the London Stadium on Wednesday night. Here’s how the top six looks ahead of the midweek action…

Any early team news? United do not have any injury concerns and Jose Mourinho has a large squad at his disposal, as shown by his decision to make nine changes for the FA Cup fourth-round win over Wigan Athletic. Anthony Martial was brought back into the team for that game and the manager stated last week that the Frenchman would face Hull if he impressed against the Latics. Regular starters David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all expected to return.

Is Eric Bailly available? The Ivory Coast international has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations after the Elephants were eliminated at the group stage, but it remains to be seen whether he will feature against Hull on Wednesday. IOur summer signing enjoyed a surprise cameo for the Under-23s against Everton on Monday night, registering just under 60 minutes at the Leigh Sports Village.

So what’s new with Hull? Since we faced them last Thursday night, the Tigers have exited the FA Cup as a result of a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Championship side Fulham. That game became a talking point over the weekend, too, after Abel Hernandez missed two penalties inside one second-half minute. Their top scorer of seven goals, Robert Snodgrass, has completed his £10.2million transfer to West Ham and the Scotland international could make his debut against City this week.

What does Ander Herrera predict? A tough game, judging by his interview that will appear in the match programme! The Spaniard talks impressively across five pages and offers his view that Hull are getting better under Marco Silva’s guidance. “They're playing much better now with the new manager; he has them very organised and playing well, as we saw in last week's game. They also didn't deserve to lose at Chelsea away from home and that shows the improvement they have had.”

Who else is playing? There are seven Premier League games on Tuesday and three on Wednesday including our game…

JOSE EYES WIN
"We need to win the match," declared the boss when asked about Wednesday's game. "We always play a full strength team, it depends on the way you look at it but we always try to have a strong team. Of course, we have had some players that didn’t play the last match, some players with a lot of matches played already, like Valencia, Ibra, Pogba. Some of these players with lot of matches they didn’t play but will play tomorrow."

YOUNG IS STAYING
There was some speculation over Ashley Young's future but Mourinho has confirmed that he is definitely staying at United and will be in tomorrow's squad for the Hull game.

BAILLY IS BACK
Jose was asked at the end of his press conference about the fitness of Eric Bailly after the defender was forced out of the Reserves game on Monday. The good news is Bailly is available to face Hull.

Think he said Valencia Carrick Pogba Herrera start but need to check.
No mention of Carrick or Herrera. He said Valencia, Pogba and Ibrahimović have been getting a lot of games, so they had a rest and would start now.

He definitely has plans for Utd and knows exactly what he wants long term.

This is why I so excited with Jose as boss. Dithering Dave would just line up ex Everton players.

The summer is going to be awesome.

Good that Young stays. With so many games now we need every player and he will play against the likes of Blackburn when it's FA Cup and in EL games if we get a good result in the first game. Better to sell in summer.

Only until the end of the season. Next summer wait for all the speculation to roam around again. Most probably Young would leave comes the summer.

I really love how he has smartly put in Rooney into that comment about Young (from the twitter post above). It would have been such an awkward topic to discuss about club's top scorer leaving but it doesn't feel awkward when Jose puts it that way. At the same time, it clearly lays out the possibility that Rooney would move in summer

I doubt we'll see Ashley again in a United shirt unless there is an injury crisis
With possibly 30 games till the end of the season, I bet Young will take Valencia's place in a lot of the minor games.

There are no minor games left. Every single game until the end of the season we'll need to be at full strength. Valencia doesn't need rest.
What? We have 6 games before facing Southampton in the League Cup final, where they have just 1. Do you imagine Valencia playing each of those games, the last two with just 2 days rest?

Darmian has been filling in at RB for Valencia when he has needed a rest. It wouldn't surprise me to see Valencia playing all 5 games, unless of the unlikely scenario we wrap up the St. Etienne tie in the 1st leg.
