Jump to the 4-0 Everton threadmark on the thread, that was the 7th match of the season. Rashford was getting slaughtered and called to be replaced for Martial, in fact, Rashford was slaughtered most of the first half of the season and people were always calling for him to get benched for Martial till that happens. That was about 6 months before the Brighton, and out of no where it became Mourinho fault due to England game ?

I mean at least in Martial thread there's some consistency, people were criticizing Mourinho for his approach with him since beginning of season, but calling for Rashford to get benched the whole season and when it does happen blame the manager because he played a good friendly ? Like seriously, come on.

He scored a great goal tonight. Nevertheless, I'd like to see him loaned out to Fulham or Wolves next season, I'm sure he'd shine, learn a lot and come back smarter. And of course we'd then see a lot more of Martial.

Wow, for all those blaming Mourinho... Stop criticizing him and making him an escape goat for Rashford's poor displays in the last part of the season.

After scoring twice against liverpool, Mourinho gave him another start against Sevilla where he messed up very badly. Those of you bashing Mourinho have really short time memory. He missed some great chances against Sevilla, costing us the tie. Whatever Rashford was doing throughout the later part of the season was comical, none of his flicks, long range shots were working, he was making terrible decisions every time he had the ball.

I hope you all remember how poor his displays were. I really hope he gets his confidence back and Picks him form. If it was Sir Alex, he would have played a lot less over the past two seasons compared to what he has played under Mourinho.

Not sure how a loan to Wolves or Fulham would help! Many great prospects have been ruined by loans. It puts a HUGE amount of weight and pressure on them that it's their last chance. A loan is most effective for players who haven't appeared much in the first team and want to get more playing time.

You can't put a 20-year-old kid, with 55 games at one of the top clubs in the world who has been deemed a massive prospect. It would be perceived as a demotion. Plus the media implications would be massive. Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo was sent on loan after World Cup 2006? It would have been a disaster.

Also, if he was sent on loan, there would be many agents in speaking to him with big money offers. The kid is a great prospect. He needs to be at United.

People need to be patient and allow him to develop. If we had Chelsea's mentality of sending players on loans we may never have had Giggs, Scholes, Beckham or Ronaldo.

He’s got absolutely brilliant technique shooting the ball from range like that.

The problem is imo he's having to compete for his place with at the moment better players and he's obviously unhappy with the lack of gametime he's getting. Playing for the likes of Wolves he would be able to express himself and show everyone what he's capable of given sufficient gametime.
Harry Kane was loaned out to Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester before returning back to Spurs and it certainly didn't do him any harm.

Lol at people trying to play the "Mourinho holds him back" card.

Rashford has shown his typical form tonight like he has all season at United, which is inconsistent. Incredibly talented young player who will inevitably have patches of good form and patches of bad form due to his age and experience.

He had a pop in a friendly and it flew in, he's allowed to do that for Man United too, you know.

Great for the kid to get another England goal just before his first World Cup, I hope he can get some game time.

He has been doing this shot with United this season over 10 times per match at least and were all rubbish.
I was speaking in a more factual sense here regarding this evening. Is he good enough currently to be in the squad? I say yes, but are the tactics bringing the best out of him? I’m not so sure...

Rashford is imo the least player in the squad you can apply the tactics as an excuse for what he did the whole season. Since about November he has been very selfish and trying to force himself on his own, never try to pass or link with anyone but always goes for the individual option and trying to shoot from every angle. He'll become good when he decides to play his role as a team player rather than forcing himself as the new Ronaldo.

Nonsense, don't turn this in to a he plays with more freedom like Glenn Hoddle. Keep it in context, he started the season well for United but was just ok overall. He's had chances for United and hasn't took them overall. He wasn't able to lead the line well in the last few games, he was awful in Cup final when we needed him most. I have a lot of time for Rashford and think he'll be a very good player in years to come but a bit of perspective. People getting carried away because of a first half friendly against Costa Rica. Post turns in to a Jose dig, classic.

Summed up perfectly, well said!

Mourinho ripped both Rashford and Martial to shreds in the Brighton post match interview and people wonder why they play with no confidence at Manchester United. Southgate may not be a great manager, but it is obvious that Rashford enjoys playing under a manager that has faith in him.
Lol, so you're going to ignore the countless praise Mourinho has given to Rashford in the sense of professionalism, attitude, commitments and effort this past 2 years? He's often said whilst he doesn't always score, he always gives everything, he's said he trusts him. Ignoring that and rounding on the one or two negative gee ups Mourinho's done in the press?

He has played patches of brilliance and patches of frustrating performances for the past 3 seasons, it's nothing new. He's had a pop and it's flown in, he regularly has 30 yard pops for United and they fly high, wide, straight at the keeper, and occasionally fly in. You think that his chances of scoring a long range strike depends on which manager he has?

Should we forget all of Rashfords good performances for Mourinho in 2 years and claim that this is the first time he’s performed in 2 years due to it being under Southgate?

Get a grip, he’s young, his form will be rocky, it’s nothing to do with who his manager is.

I wish he played like this for the club.

This past season he was very disappointing. Here’s to hoping he can turn it around like his first season.

Very fair points but I still don’t know if he’s a striker or a ‘wide-forward’.
I think some of his play this season (which you quite rightly criticise) is because of how he’s also confused as to what his role is. I believe he’s a striker and I’d like him to turn into a faster version of Diego Costa but he won’t do that on the left-wing.

I don't see him as a lone striker, he works better as a left wide forward, or maybe a second striker with someone beside him that has better hold up play but as a lone number 9 striker, not much.

Clueless. He scores one goal and people are losing it. Wait till he does it multiple times for England in Russia first before blaming his club manager for “holding him back” eh?

Point is the lad has potential, no doubt, but he needs to do way more. If he does it game in game out for England then you may have a case.

One match, one long range effort? Meh. I can name many average players who have scored similar and were never heard from again.

When dynamic athletes come on the scene, they often have immediate success, because they are an unknown quantity. After awhile however, game film is available and teams are able to break down the strengths and weaknesses. They are not so unknown, and teams are better able to prepare for their athletic dynamism.
Here we go. So he hasnt had any good games since Palace because he's just fast and teams have just worked him out?

Well, its a shame Costa Rica, amongst other teams - Liverpool being one, didnt break down Rashford's strengths and weaknesses.

He's so much better in that hybrid 10 role than he is as a solitary striker or winger. For me he's at his best when he has space in and around the middle of the park as opposed to the wing. Kind of like the role Rooney played for us in his prime. The problem is we have so many players in our squad who like to occupy similar field position in that final third so his chances there may be few and far between. Either way, Jose needs to find a way to get the best out of him this season or we risk losing an incredibly gifted and talented player.

Yeah, he's gone close a few times last season but he's shown improvement in that area and it was a matter of time before he scored a screamer. Hopefully he continues to work hard in training to improve because it would be a brilliant weapon to have.

Rashford is a good player. My problem with him was the greediness and shocking decision making but all the attributes needed to succeed are there. It's just the application that's missing. Also it's not just him that struggled this season. None of our attacking players have been special so it all points to coaching problem. The team has to play attacking football so we can see whether Rashford can consistently perform week in week out.

Diogo is right footed...
Yeah, so? That means he'll be left winger, not a right-winger. Like Messi, Dybala, Douglas Costa, Mahrez, Thauvin, Ozil, Salah, Bale, Malcom, Di Maria, Mata who happen to be left foot, play in the right wing as it is more effective for them than on left. Majority of attacking left-footed prefer playing on the right flank as much as attacking right-footed prefer left flank.

For fullbacks, right-footed on the right flank and left-footed on the left flank.

If Dalot can use his left-footed, then he can do ok on the right flank

What epitomises Rashford's selfishness in recent times is in one game later in the season where all he had to do was centre it to Martial with a basic ground pass for a tap in and instead he went for a shot which unsurprisingly failed. I'm not sure if we ended up winning that game.

Great to see him scoring for his country though! :)

One friendly game and they all bare their fangs at Mourinho, I wonder who they're going to blame if he doesn't perform in Russia.

All we can hope for with Rashford is that he keeps developing and I for one look forward to seeing him in the WC, it will be great experience for him and something he can bring back with him. If it can help him to become a better player for us next season, hopefully he becomes more consistent, then it will be great for us. If you expect him to score a goal like this and be magnificent every match you are just stupid, and blaming Mou or anyone but him for not performing well at United last season is as ridiculous as expecting Ronaldo to stop scoring because Zidane left.

Yep, and a bit of luck involved with 25 yard strikes.

Mourinho needs to do better with the attack, but Rashford's troubles are of his own making.

Dig up stupid!
The state of some of the shit posted about this boy he's 20 years old ffs and a graduate from our own academy no less, he's doing exceptionally well for his age, absolutely exceptional.

Mo salah at 20 was still in Egypt and hadn't played for his full national side
Ngolo kante had barely made a pro appearance at 20 and let's be honest was a nobody in the world game
Harry Kane was on loan (again) at Norwich getting 3 goals in a dozen appearances
These are the last 3 players of the year in England

Rashford at 20 is a regular in the man utd team and a member of England's World Cup squad. Is he perfect? Of course not, he's wildly inconsistent but that's to be expected of a player his age he's also capable of moments of brilliance playing at a far higher level than all the aforementioned players could've dreamed of playing in at 20yrs old

Its fine to have high expectations of him but being ott with negativity when he falls short is unfair given his age and the level of competition he's playing at. He's still ahead of his time and deserves patience

So a manager has no influence on a players form?
You imagine that repeatedly dropping a young player after one poor performance doesn't have any influence on their form or confidence?

He was alright. Got into some great positions and made some good runs but he kept taking one too many touches and losing it.

I agree, my worry with Rashford is that it is he himself and people in the media (some you suspect are leant-on cronies) who are putting lines out about how he needs to move on to realise his potential and wants to play with more freedom etc.

There's no doubt he's doing well for his age and that there's no shame he isn't first choice for club and country, but the way some including himself seem to have jumped the gun you'd think Jose and United are a dead weight that he needs to throw off. The truth we all know is that no other club would have got him further than where he is now.

Great goal yesterday, keep it up Marcus.

After that poor performance against Brighton, he played the remaining games including the final. Try again.
