Players Utd were regularly linked with but never signed XI

So can we make a starting 11 of players the club has been routinely linked with but we never signed.

For example;

Sneijder, Gaitan, Kroos. Perisic

The criteria is it has to be a player we've been linked with more than 1 year.

Can't think of the other CB. Think Otamendi was only the one summer really, same with Sergio Ramos. Varane was serious interest the one summer, he picked Madrid and then after that there wasn't much.

Dean holdsworth came up a few years in a row, as did Wimbledon’s keeper whose name escapes me.

Shearer came up 2 or 3 years in a row.
 
Marcelo Salas as Striker...my first ever muppet juices were spilled in anticipation of him joining us. The cracking goals he scored against England were sadly proof of what might have been!
 
Gaitan was the name that popped into my head as soon as I read the thread title.

He probably qualifies since we're also "interested" in him this year according to the press. But the serious link was only in that summer IIRC (oh, the heartbreak)
