They are only unrealistic because the Glazers have been taking the piss.
We are supposed to be challenging with the likes of Barca, yet some fans are happy we only lost 1-0 at home without having a shot on target.
Ole got the job because of nostalgia, not because he will suddenly get us competing with the best managers or teams in the world.

Hope this helps.
I don't think anyone is happy. But realistically, it was a good performance against a much better team.

Oh yes, The Glazers, well that's hardly a shocking revelation now is it? This isn't the thread, but yes, my expectations are of the team we have. Not the team we think we should have.

Ole deserves the job, he did what "one of the greatest mangers of all time" could not. Nothing nostalgic about that.

I expect if he's given the £400 million Mourinho was, we're probably going to be fine.

Remember when Jose said it was a miracle he got 2nd with this squad? And how infuriating it was to hear that.

Now we're simply humbled at the opportunity of losing respectably to one of the worst Barcas teams we've played.
They just won La Liga with a dozen games to spare, eleven points ahead of the team who just won the last three Champions League title.

Our last manager, "one of the greats", said it would take a miracle to reach the top 4 this season.

feckin' hell mate, a bit of context to your sadsack outlook please!

Do you get some weird pleasure from your totally over the top, hangdog analysis?

Something's not quite right with you.

The scary thought of our next next 5 games is, it can easily become 8 defeats in 10. Hypothetically if that happens, that kind of form would never have got him the permanent job! Is it just pure coincidence that our form has massively dropped since contract negotiations began soon after beating PSG!
There will be that worry that it's all gone a bit Di Matteo, or that the players have now got comfortable and it's all worn off.

We just need to scrape anything we can from the remaining games, and hope he's ruthless to make the right changes.
If we don't see the likes of Darmian and Rojo shipped off, I'll be very concerned. I can deal with the Young and Jones type extensions, as we need squad players.

It was bullshit then and it is now. This team is more than capable to be 20 points behind City.

Well done Jose.

Can you not read? We've played Barca in 08, 09 and 11 previously and this easily the worst of the bunch.

The problem with the idealism behind this is Ole himself has recognised that the players "are quality bunch of individuals" . So to put it into perspective, this squad is the best squad of players Ole has managed in his career. In some areas he's even managed to ascertain a level of balance and consistency (centre half partnership's, the midfield trio) so its not that big of an influence.

My biggest issue with Ole is the lack of coaching directive consequently hindering the quality of football that is on display. Last few weeks our football has been Huddersfield esque and even beforehand we have only performed well in a singular handful of games. We cannot create chances, have no movement and aren't giving our attacking players the platforms and leverage to make an impact.

Those issues stem solely from what is being implemented in training and drilled, you do not need good players to play a viable standard of football that's going to win you games. All its taken is Pogba to not have much as an impact and our results and performances are in dissaray.

Ole when he started, mentioned teams having to fear us on the basis of what we can offer on the field. Thus far he's almost reclining into a Mourinho state of mind by consistently making adjustments to the oppositions threats, at the cost of limiting our own capabilities so it seems we are not set up to win games but to take a 50 50 result.

Van gaal was partially right with his analysis of solskjaer (especially in big games), we are becoming very defensively orientated and simply offering a transition of play counter attack to deflect the idea of being a negative outfit. Those are big big issues that will transpire into next season unless Ole changes the philosophy.
He's hardly going to say the players are rubbish and he can't work with them is he. He's doing the best he can with somebody else's players.

You don't need good players to play good football? How do you expect that when you have Young playing. Then you play Dalot who is inexperienced and defencively suspect - pick your poison.

He's playing defencively in the big games because our players aren't capable of going toe to toe and attack from the off.

We have a good squad to build on but there is a big deficit in talent between us and the bigger teams which needs us to alter the tactics and play counter attack football.

After the summer he will have more players that shit is mould of football and would have had the whole summer to coach the current boys.

Only time will tell if he is the right choice.

Because we have to give our internet support to Ole. Because you have to support your manager even if he just wants to payday and then be quiet when even your dog realize you should not sack him, but that pretty much everything you attacked people here was bollocks (am guilty of that too tbf)

We are not good, we are avarage. I didn't mind last night game but ffs for the amount of money we spend all togethet looks pretty feckin shit if we are honest. Least Ole fault tbf.
Me saying how him starting Young is on him isnt a sign of lack of support, nor it means i want him sacked, nor it is any type of a abuse. People expressing their issues with certain things when it comes to Ole as a manager, doesnt mean they asking for his head. I would like to believe if someone wants Ole to not be our manager after this season ends, that person would say so and make it clear.

Similar calling out happened when people said how club made a mistake by not waiting for end of season before making decision regarding permanent managerial role.

And subsequent events have proved him to have been correct. 2nd in the PL was an over achievement.

It was, but it wasn't only due to Jose that we got 2nd. More like the other teams around us stopped trying.

However, the squad is quite capable of 4th which Jose never looked like he could achieve this season.

I think people are effected a bit too much by the results. If Shaw and de gea do not give away the first goal after a brilliant pass from Messi then it would be 0-0 and a decent enough result. With some luck we could have made that a 1-0 and people would have hailed it as a great performance.

Our attack was a bit blunt, but the rest we did do well.
True but football is all about results.
I would have taken a 0-0 which would probably have been a fair result.
But the fact is that we did loose.

There seems to be a lot of things that Jose said which don't seem as crazy now and maybe Ole is slowly finding this out as well.

You're in big trouble.
I am simply calling it as it was and don't really care whether people disagree.
Even if Ole had been in charge all this season we would not finish in second place.

Yeah, I know and I agree. I was just making a joke about Mourinho's "If I speak" line ;)

No manager can win over Redcafe. Not a single one. You can bring in anyone you want.. the result will be the same. We stopped Barcelona from creating anything at all besides 1-2 chances. And at times we pressed them really low, made usually brilliant players like Busquets and co make plenty of mistakes. Only problem we had was being way to poor in the final third. Done better up front and we would have won that game.

But this was not something redcafe can give Ole and the players credit for. No..they take that credit away from them, and instead argues that Barcelona let United take that control of the game. Yep, and Busquets just passed the ball to the United-players on purpose.. Oh yeah.. Redcafe.. you stand true to your brilliant self yet again.

Nothing our team does will ever please this forum. They play bad we hate, they play well we credit that to the opponents not giving a shit. Incredible.

Of course the squad looks worse right now but this time last season Conte and Giroud were central figures at Chelsea, Wenger was at Arsenal and Liverpool didn't get VVD till midseason. We also didn't invest well in the summer. You're not comparing the same competition anymore. 2nd would be an accomplishment right now but the same can't be said about last season. This season isn't vindicating anything the toxic shite said or did. Some of the worst elements of the present team were his soldiers

Yes I am.
I am comparing last seasons squad with last seasons finishing position.
Since Ole has been here we have improved a bit but the squad is not able to challenge Liverpool or City.
We still, as last season need significant strengthening to be able to challenge for the PL.
That is a fact so 2nd place being an over achievement is also a fact.

Are you taking into account the rest of the field? Last season's squad had a solid argument for being the second best in the league. That's no overachievement

At the very least he should be given a transfer window and a full season to prove himself until we pass judgement. He has not signed a single player in a squad that is clearly not very good or assembled with any kind of playing tactic in mind. He has done well so far but as a club we are underachieving.

Don't disagree but I think a lot of what Jose said was viewed with tinted glasses because of how toxic he was. Ole has had the opportunity to remove some of those elements you mention and yet for the most part he's stuck with them as well. Ole also made it a priority to speak of the United way of playing and yet we started the game at OT last night with 5 defenders, intent on parking the bus. For one reason or another he has switched to tactics very similar to Jose.

How many times are we going to repeat this same excuse? We played a good game but lost, plenty of credit has been given to those that performed (McTominay, Fred to name a few) and criticism will be given to those that didn't. Young for one and Ole for not making an impact with subs. We have the momentum and it is obvious to anyone watching the game where our weakest area was and yet the decision was to take out Dalot and leave Young in the game. Above all that my problem with Ole yesterday was our initial approach to the game, and it is a missed opportunity. Let's hope we learn from this.

Spot on

Or should we all be disappointed in ole for not swatting the likes of Barcelona aside last night after being in charge for a whole 4 months.

Yeh but we spent 400 million blah, blah, blah

Until he wins two trophies and finishes 2nd or higher, he is not a upgrade on Mourinho.

He has got the job because of the new manager bounce and I'm not sure if he will be good enough against the likes of Pep, Klopp, Emery and Pochettino.

Hope this helps.

It’s not a bad thing that we are in bad form right now as ole can see it now that some of his players perhaps aren't what he thought to be and he can now plan his squad for next season accordingly

Exactly. If we are still hovering around 6th next season then questions can be asked, not now

Rumours of a 'deterioration' in the relationship between Pogba and Ole :houllier:

Not just one source but at least 3 where I've seen this.

Now I know how journos love peddling United rumours, but can't help but believe where there's smoke there's fire. If true, I am lost for words, and can only feel some sympathy for Mourinho as a result.

One bad patch and people are back with "how Jose was correct"

If the squad is shit then the blame is on the manager who built the squad in last 3 years. Since he was sacked we have gained as many points as City, Liverpool (+ or - 1 point) but somehow Jose was correct.

It isn't shit but it has its limitations and should be a lot better.

I think our biggest mistake in recent years was signing Sanchez for that ridiculous salary. At that point, any player with talent (which is rare at United these days), expected to match his salary. The fact that Sanchez has been horrendous with us also meant that anyone whose doing fairly well is asking for a huge salary rise as well. They must be thinking that if the club is ready to pay such salary to a useless player like Sanchez is then surely they must reward their effort as well.

In my opinion, we've got three choices here

A- We can just take the shit, we give a massive salary raise to anyone asking for it and move on
B- We can allow complainers to leave
C- We can take the middle route ie we give a massive salary increase to those who deserve it and get rid of the rest.

I think the 3rd option is most suitable at this point in time.

Having said that, its evident that we need at least a DOF. Someone whose experienced in football would never allowed Sanchez's transfer to go through.

Yeah, there are obvious weakness and don't think anyone believed or said we should be winning league titles with this squad. We should have been lot better than what we showed, our start was very poor, defense was comically bad week in week out and the atmosphere was toxic.

Now the challenge is to build the squad, improve the weaker positions and clear the dead wood.

I think Mou should shoulder a lionshare of what's going on. After all, most of his signings had been crap. However things had been deteriorating long before he signed with us. From the value strategy which saw top stars like Giggs, Ronaldo, Scholes, Rio and Vidic being replaced by the likes of Young, Valencia, Cleverley, Jones and Smalling right to Moyes joining in and then there was LVG and his much dreading philosophy.

In my opinion the issue is way way bigger then the football being played on the pitch. We basically got accountants ( Gill, Woodward, it doesn't really matter) who take football decisions. That's crazy on many many levels. Its like asking a pilot to operate on you or a doctor to build a bridge. Which is why, people who actually LOVE Manchester United are demanding a DOF (Most fans, Gary Neville and Ole)

Playing a fullback as third cb, trying too many changes in tactics, hy doesnt he do what he did when he came in here. Go for a simple 4-3-3, play pogba where it worked for him and not this weird as stuff he tries. He is trying to be guardiola and do too much, play it simple, let the players play, we ll win most games. Just no fecking with 3 at the back, if he wants that play 3 cbs not 2 cbs and a fullback out of position.

Yup, Mourinho defenders still sore over his sacking crawling out of their holes leaving cynical remarks trying to score some petty points, using the current bad situation to do so.
