No shame for the GOAT Serena, motherhood & age has definitely gotten to her.
Would love for her to win one more Grandslam but it's looking unlikely :(

She's in the final of Wimbledon, so it wouldn't be a stretch to see her do the same at the US Open and beyond.

Indeed, she's always loved Wimbledon so I think she wanted to win one more, but a US Open win would be great to bow out on.

Finals mean nothing if you're a relentless winner like she is.
It means she will have her shots, it’s a matter of taking it.

My opinion is if she doesn’t meet a good returner like Halep/Kerber/Osaka in such matches she’d have a pretty good chance.

Halep played great, but Serena completely self destructed. The amount of unforced errors was so strange.

She also needs to limit her mistakes, she's gifting too many points to her opposition.

Halep fantastic, stone cold final. High quality throughout, no hesitation.

Agree with @villain that the motherhood break and now age have taken a strong toll on Serena. She still has technique but her footwork has gone downhill and she is now very slow, her agility is shocking. And with her becoming over reliable on hitting winners she's making a lot of unforced errors.
However as other's have pointed out, the women's field is super volatile, just half a year ago Osaka seemed unbeatable and look where she's now. Reckon she still has one or two slams in here given that she has reached 3 finals in the last year.

Nice words from Serena:
“She literally played out of her mind,” says Williams. “It was a little bit deer in the headlights for me. Whenever a player plays like that you just have to take your hat off. I love coming out here, playing in front of you guys. It’s literally a joy.”

56 minutes.

Jesus fecking Christ. The equal pay debate will rise on. Take in consideration the first set in the second semi final lasted that long last night.

I’m sure Tomic is going to use that final as example as to why he shouldn’t be fined all his prize money.

I'm sure proponents of equal pay wouldn't mind the women playing 3 out of 5 to even things out.

Almost perfect tennis from Halep, while Serene self-destructed. Not a classic match though as was so one-sided and brief. Very surprised with Serena, she played much better in the Semi.

Well they should if it’s a final. There’s no excuse for TV companies. Make them play 5 sets in finals and it would be far more interesting. Rarely do players keep that sort of level Halep showed in three sets in the men’s game. There’s always a drop.

She almost died during childbirth too which is something that's often not spoken about, her health hasn't been great for years so for her to even return to this level after all that, at 37 is simply remarkable.
At least one more title for her to retire on a high, she absolutely deserves it - one of the most inspirational athletes ever imo.

If equal pay happens then women should have to play the same amount of sets (finals or otherwise) as men do. I think its possible but somehow I don't think it will happen.

It has happened!

Halep will take the same prize money as the winner of Djokovic and Federer tomorrow.

You’d have to reduce court size for that to be feasible.

The quality of the viewing experience won’t improve if they are too tired and just mope about on the court for 4 sets instead of 3.
