I'm hoping Tuanzebe displaces Lindelof soon. I don't think Lindelof is very good

I still rather see Axel at some point, think he could be better version of VL.

Our defence needed a leader like Maguire, it's so obvious now. Very good good game from both of them.
Precisely. Last year the defence was sometimes chaotic and always looking like a mistake in waiting. Maguire will make Lindelof a much better defender.

I stand by what I have said previously, I want Maguire + Tuanzebe partnership.

Yep! Wolves away will be a far tougher test for them but so far so good!
Wolves front line isn't all that. If we can keep their wider players quiet it should be OK. Jimenez can easily be controlled by Maguire.

Strange timing to post something like this when Lindelöf didn’t put a foot wrong today. Can’t you just be happy that they looked great together? And hopefully the same will apply if and when we need Axel.

Considering Maguire’s only been in the side for a few days, I’m absolutely thrilled at how well they played together. Long may it continue.

Haven't been so confident of the defence in years.
I believe it is good competition between Tuanzabe and Lindelof. Let them fight it out in training. Can only be a healthy situation.

Jury's still out on Lindelof. Wan-Bissaka and Maguire were imperious today and virtually did all the defending. The defence needs a lot more protection and we could do with cutting down unnecessary losses of possession especially in midfield. Good start nonetheless.

I enjoy the fact that Maguire actually heads the ball away, rather than straight up into the air like Smalling and Jones have a tendency to do.

Todays result papers over some inconvenient Chelsea match stats: they had more chances and more chances on goal than we did (including hitting post twice). We definitely got lucky as Chelsea deserved to get something on the scoresheet.

So a great, albeit slightly fortuitous clean sheet, but there is a good foundation from which to build. It will improve alot over the next months, as they deepen the relationships with the fullbacks and double pivot. But the core foundation of the team looks solid.

Hoping these two can become our latest great CB pairing for the foreseeable future.

The most comfortable I have been watching United with the ball in the back since Rio and Vidic played it between each other.

Truly nothing is underrated as much as two CBs that are comfortable on the ball
True. Being good at defending is one thing, but since building from the back is so important in todays game you cant really have traditional CB brutes who only manage to hoof

Yeah, agree that it's weird. I get wanting to see Tuanzebe take the step up, but Lindelöf was as good as Maguire today.

It was mostly shots from outside the box though. But I agree. Especially Emerson had too much joy. Ole must make sure our right winger protects AWB better.

They looked good and the faults that were there were more to do with what was happening in front of them. Was a bit worried that Maguire kept getting pulled out to cover Shaw because Rashford was leaving Shaw with a 2 on 1 but that left us a little short in the middle when he did that.

Look forward to seeing how this progresses but the cover in front needs to get a lot better.

Maguire said himself he didn't train all of the week before he moved to United so he's lacking a bit in terms of fitness. Great start for them considering that and they'll only improve as they gain that familiarity with each other.
Give it 5-6 games and you will see the understanding being built. Same with Wan B.

Maguire was top class. Absolutely perfect. Lindelof was good and will certainly keep improving alongside Maguire. Also, we cannot forget that this was their first game, after Maguire was signed just several days ago. I didn't even expect things to be this good, so quickly. Harry was worth every penny we paid for him.

Looking forward to seeing axel come in as well, he can definitely be as good or better than Smalling, plus his voice is sufficiently deep. I noticed van Dijk has a deep voice and when I heard axel recently I was like ‘ah yes’.

Think if we could get a proper anchor/dm in front of the back 4 would make all the difference. We could play 4-1-4-1/4-1-3-2 and have the front 5 play further up the pitch.

Never been a fan of Lindelof and was also wary of a partnership wwith Maguire not working. It is only one game in but I am surprised by some of the Lindelof knockign after this game as I not beign a fan though he did very well. Was good in the air and competent, coupld of minor errors. The defence got severly over ran in the first half but that was due to the glarin ggaps in midfield and down the channels. Good game from him I thought

Maguire + 1 and we'll be fine. I'd prefer Axel next to him due to the recovery pace and strength he has over Lindelof. Axel is just as good or even better on the ball than the Swede IMO.

And people slayed me when i said that Lindelof is better than Smalling. Finally, we have good defensive duo. Harry was excellent. I was in Khoulibaly camp but Harry is also huge upgrade.

I wouldn't mind Axel in defense. Lindelof in midfield in Mac's place and Mac in place of Andreas. Mac is better box to box than DM

Feels like a solid partnership, but they need a quality DMF in front of them.
