Agreed.
As a relative newcomer here, I’m a little baffled at the response when things don’t go as planned. The CAF goes insane.

I know that Southampton goal at the very end was a sickener, but that doesn’t mean Utd are now shit, or bottling it.What happened, in my view, is that some of our creative players were tired- eg Bruno, whose normally beautiful passes kept going awry tonight- same for Pogba. There have been some brilliant performances lately, but it can’t happen every time. These are still early days in the building of a new project- give it a bit of time. We should still get fourth, all things considered.
True these things happen. At least we didn't get smashed 3-0 or concede 4 second half goals. Southampton were well worthy of their point its just frustrating. With us being tired and them with limitless energy there was only one way to win that game, and that was to get hold of and keep hold of the ball. We didn't and the equalizer felt inevitable. Fair play to them. Poor play from us.

Was always going to be a difficult match, Southampton are in form and are a better team than their position in the table reveals.
In the end, we lost due to a combination of bad luck and individual mistakes. Time to move forward, we still depend solely on ourselves to reach top 4.
If you are complaining about us, imagine how Leicester fans are feeling right now, they are probably terrified that they'll have to play us in the last round.

The state of this thread.

Nothings changed. Still need to win our remaining games. Not to mention LEI have Spurs, Sheffield and us left. Chelsea have Liverpool and Wolves You really think they aren't going to drop points?!

We're still favourites.
Had we won tonight, a draw at Leicester could have been enough for CL. Now we'll almost certainly need to win, if we're still in contention by then.

Its a long road without turning. We have caught the pack and this is a slip up . I think it was always probable that we would drop points along the way but now we need to refocus & beat palace. I dont for a second believe Chelsea and Leicester will pick up maximum points . Even though this feels like a loss we cant forget how much better we are now compared to the last couple of season . Positivity needed ,the lads have played some great stuff they are well capable of finishing the Job .

Ah okay. No surprises there.
Really annoying and the definition of bottle jobs.

Honestly fed up with this team. Can we please open the cheque book for Ole this summer and give him the midfielders and central defender he wants.

The inability to control a game when any of our first choice three leave the pitch is worrying. Soon as Pogba went off we sank back and back and back. Equally, they can’t be run into the ground so have to find time to rest them at some point.

Wow. A team comes and presses us with high energy and Pogba, Matic and Lindelof either get caught on the ball or panic. Other teams will take note. Our starting XI is excellent but after that we lack.
We‘ve been clinical recently too but not tonight. Tony M although good was wasteful. We didn’t create a single chance for Greenwood either.

Don't you dare come in here with your reasonable post. You should know that if United don't win you're not allowed to be positive, or even reasonable.

out of interest when do Chelsea and Liverpool play each other, gotta hope the 100 points is still on for Liverpool when they meet, otherwise they’ll lose that game intentionally by playing a baby team
Uff not sure but i think they're playing within the next 10 days.

I think we watched different games- Lindelof played well, cut off numerous inbound shots/ passes through his positional intelligence. I don’t think his play is appreciated on here, as he is not a Vidic style defender.
It's utterly crazy.

The last time I checked, soton played the same number of matches.

The fitness in this team is fecking horrific. Has been for years now.

The other team pressed ALL match long almost. We couldn't muster up anything.
Plus 120 mins in the FA cup game. That said our team has actually impressed me with their fitness, Southampton just has an extraordinary amount of it - wow!!

Wow, we looked really tired. Bruno not his usual self. Pogba was sleepwalking. I can't fault the effort, we were just exhausted. The cavalier start to the game and the Pogba giveaway was pretty bad.

Martial was immense. Yes, he should have put away the breakaway, but that was a great save by the keeper.

Hilarious how the Caf is constant doom & gloom. If you want to be depressed, just read this thread...

If there is a player less likely to score from a corner than that guy I have never seen him. Two points dropped to the five foot diddly squat man with no neck.

Good grief.

It's also worrying that we were unable to control the game even when they were on the pitch. Any pressing and we're in trouble.

United were doing rather well seeing the game out and having to defend as a team, which isn't a bad thing. You have to defend and see out results from time to time and today was one of them days.

Just extremely unlucky that Williams went down after being really good after coming on for Shaw, then down to 10 men. Then United had to sit even deeper and AWB committed to a ball that Redmond was always going to try to ping off him for a corner.

Worst thing about this is we'll now have to play full strength team again against Palace next week. Won't be able to rest anyone.

More tired legs going into Chelsea game.

Seems to be the case with all these "pressing" teams. They are well drilled on how to pin teams in their own box and also efficient not to run around like headless chickens, i.e. Rashford and Dan James at times.

Now that my head is cleared a little bit, this was really coming unfortunately.

We just didn't show up in second half. Throughout it I was saying to myself this half is a chore to watch and just please end. Once we subbed Bruno after Pogba I know this has a banana slip written all over it. I told myself if they score we don't have a chance to score again now that we subbed off our 2 playmakers. I know they were crap but this a stupid move. At least leave one. You don't know how the match can go.

Saints deserve the draw. They played a top match from start to finish and this goal is a nice award for them. Well trained and organized team. Credit for their coach.

It's a big disappointment because of how the draw came, last minute goal after we subbed off our 2 playmakers and decided to go full defense and counters on our turf against Saints. Totally different from anything that we have been doing recently. Just kills the mood for me.

Not worried though about getting top 4. We'll achieve it. This was just annoying and as I said, mood killing for me.
I may be sour but I disagree, they deserved a red card for Romeu which they were lucky was overlooked by VAR, would have been the end of their match right there and then. Also alot of chances for us to make the 3th goal and kill off the game but it didn't happen (Rashford had a big chance, Martial aswell). Then we fall down to 10 men and they manage to take advantage of it and knick away a draw in the last minutes.

Again I may be sour but Saints just deserved a proper trashing today and United deserved to be in 3th place but match events were just against us today. I just hope we are strong enough so this doesn't affect our current form, we really need to keep going like have been doing if we want a chance at top 4.

I think that game will have killed the momentum we had. Not sure I can see us getting 3 points at Palace and I don't trust these players in a crunch game against Leicester. They love bottling it as soon as there's any pressure.
Too right. I'd be surprised if we get any points against Palace. In fact if the game against Leicester ends up being for the champions league places, we will draw or lose. If it is a nothing game (because we are too off the pace to even make it into Top four) we will win 4-0.

OGS needs to switch things up. Change the formation a little and rotate some of the personnel.

Dan James I feel still can contribute and just needs confidence. Same with Mctominay. They have both lost it after the lockdown IMO.

The tone of this forum has gone from 'we don't need to rotate, we'll just sub after an hour when the games are done' to 'bunch of bottlers. No chance of CL now, its done'. Because we drew a game.

I wish it was genuine discussion instead of people just smashing their keyboards. If this was a meeting about a project that went shite, then this forum is the written equivalent of those people throwing themselves out of the window.
People get emotional after games, especially ones where we concede right at the death and it has a potentially profound impact on our season. It's only natural that there will be overreactions and a football forum where nobody knows your real name is the perfect place to do it, really.

I'm sure reactions will be more measured tomorrow. I'm really disappointed by the performance and result but I can understand that Southampton played really well and we looked very tired.

He shouldn't have been letting their player anywhere near the ball, Vidic would've been putting his body on the line to prevent it, instead Lindelof got outmuscled by somehow near half his height.
The ball should never have got that far, Maguire had to go for it, don’t think he even jumped for it. Vidic is a different animal, don’t think theirs a CB around fit enough to wipe his ass, in my opinion he’s the best CB we’ve ever had Jaap is a very close 2nd.

Game too far for this lot. They looked leggy and lacking in energy throughout. A dreadful result, under the circumstances.

Solskjaer should have freshened things up a bit - he will now have to do that for the Palace and West Ham games, which we will have to navigate with some of the squad players in starting positions.
Very disappointed, but could have been a different game if Var had sent off Oriel off along with looking at Ward Prowse diving and several bookable fouls.
Thought Pogba and Wan Bissaka looked tired and once we lost williams we were unlucky.
Wanted to see the challenge on williams thought it was a dangerous challenge at the time but saw no replays

Been here a while pal, sure you'll understand soon enough.
Understand what? Surely you’re not comparing this team to the ones that had Jones and Smalling starting at CB, Fellaini starting in midfield or “No knees” Falcao at 9. The team is looking massively improved and we drew against a team that beat city while using the same 11 for every game since the restart. If not for 2 unlucky injuries, we win this game.

You have to understand that we have absolutely no room or margin for error though.

Home matches are supposed to be won. Especially when you're 2-1 up with only a minute to go. Call it bad luck. Call it lack of bottle.

We just can't seem to get over the line with this team. Its a mental thing.

Well I suppose if you have very very low expectations then the only way is up!

Its not constructive. Its just bile for the most part. Its why this forum has been unreadable for most of the season.

Watch the Ole out thread grow by 20 pages overnight because we didn't win. Its no wonder most of the best posters have left this place.
Well said.

I bet those posters have been waiting impatiently for this to happen, just a shame they had to wait so long.

We shit the bed again. Massive mentality issues with this team, they need to fecking put games away simple as that. If Southampton who have nothing to play for can be arsed more than us, what the fck? Pogba was sleepwalking for 15 minutes and was responsible for the first conceded goal. AWB was horrific throughout. Maguire was caught out several times. Bruno's passing was off. Too cavalier upfront at times, when we could/should have scored 4 or 5. Both Martial (who was MOTM imo) and Rashford missed clear fecking chances. And we get punished in the end.

Thats where OGS really messed up today.

We could have rotated some players (i.e. Greenwood/Matic/Lindelof) and put on some fresh legs. Maybe change up the formation a little to throw off the opponent.

I understand he wants continuity, but with so many matches in a row, you can clearly see our fitness levels diminishing with every match.
Its easy to be wise after the fact though, haven’t heard too much complaining during the last few matches. Probably wouldn’t have been many complaints today either if we’d gotten away with three points. We missed the first chance to grab a tight hold of top 4, but its not our last chance. Lets soldier on and learn from this, we need to learn to get these points if we’re gonna get somewhere.

I always thought "constructive" is a bit of a weird expectation from a football forum: nothing we do or say has any effect whatsoever. It's not like our constructive criticism or well-reasoned feedback will improve the team...

We played absolute shite when we had a glorious opportunity to take control of the CL race. Of course people will be fuming. We just need to vent. Things will calm down a bit in a day or two (until we shit ourselves at Palace).
It used to be that the match day forum was the place for people to angrily smash their keyboards and say whatever comes to mind. Avoid that thread, and you don't have to read it. Simple.

Its not possible to do that anymore it would seem. Now you have to have to avoid the whole site for 3 days. How is that a positive thing?

Awful to concede so late but we’ve got a front 3 that will put Palace’s defenders to the sword.
