Thiago isn’t a DM though. He’ll play the Pogba role.
He often played the DM in Pep‘s 4-1-4-1 at Bayern. He is more a DLP than a 8/10.
Yes, Bayern is more dominant in its league than United, but it would work against at least 12 PL clubs. However, he would never join a „project“ or to fight for playing time.

I don’t really think he has that choice unless he wants to take a step down club level. I mean he would start at Arsenal every week. But nowhere else and definitely not here.

Why Barca aren’t all over this I do not know, they’re desperate for someone like Thiago alongside De Jong and have been desperate for someone like Thiago for years.

Rakitic, Vidal, Coutinho, Dembele, Semedo, Neto, Umtiti and Braithwaite are all basically for sale on top of selling Arthur and I’m sure they’d sell Griezmann if they got a decent offer so if they had any sense they’d be all in for Thiago who’d no doubt move back there in a heartbeat.
Think you’re forgetting he played for Barca many years ago and left under a cloud.

Allegedly Bayern offered him a 3 year contract and he was looking for 4. Bayern reconsidered and offered him 4 and all his demands were met. Then rather abruptly he said that he won’t sign it. That’s why Bayern is mad at him and that’s why you have to assume that he has another offer on the table. Had Barca not signed Pjanic my money would be on them.
I am pretty sure it is decided where he wants to go but we’ll only find out after Bayern‘s season has ended. Gun to my head: Liverpool or City.

I feel like City and would be a great purchase. He’s better than Ilkay in my opinion.

Tommy Doc didn't get us relegated. It was a botched renovation process like this one, with Wilf McGuinnes (Giggs?), Frank O'Farrell (Moyes) and a spent Busby (LVG/Mou?) leaving Docherty a mess of unconfident, unmotivated, untalented and unready players. If anything, Tommy Doc was slightly like Ole in that he brought in a blend of positovity, patience and planning, and got everyone in on it. The season after the relegation was one of the most exciting and optimistic seasons between Sir Matt and sir Alex, with players like Macari, Buchan, Daly, Morgan providing grit flair and speed, ,McIlroy and Coppell breaking through - United averaged 47 000 people pr game, the highest in Division Two AND Division One!

The season after promotion we did brilliantly for a newly promoted team, 3rd and an FA Cup final, and the we came sixth but pipped Liverpool for the Treble by winning the FA cup. Had it not been for Tommy's unquenchable thirst for real love, who knows where it might have gone? Sadly all this is completely OT.
Consider me educated! I wasn’t born then, so I knew the stats and history, but did not know that he played such a big part in our 70s rebuild and have always known him as the man who played attacking football but disgracefully took us down. Fantastic! If Ole managed to get 3rd and an FA Cup final this year (win it please!) I’d be delighted.

Sorry for going off-topic lads.

What about Keita? Doesn't fit into your team?
It's been two full seasons and he either can't get fit or doesn't do enough when he does get into the side. His numbers aren't bad compared to the minutes he's played but he isn't offering enough during games.

We need a player of his qualities. Our two main creative players are killer ball...killer ball. We need a different profile.

What's his issue anyway? Surely there is a way to improve him. Fluid, flair & energetic, in fact he actually played under Ralph Hasenhuttl in RB Leipzig which has similarity to Klopp style.

Doesn’t mean he will of course. Fekir and Werner wanted to sign for us as well.
The only concern for me is Klopp is signing a 29 year old, Mane, Firmino, Salah, VVD... that's going to be one big rebuild for whoever follows Klopp.

Thiago will make Liverpool have another dimension next season though, going to be good for the neutrals.

Oh yeah I agree. It’s going to be a short term fix if it happens.

We’ll need a rebuild in the next 2/3 years.

A forward thinking manager finds room for Thiago. Pogba played with an aged Pirlo playing deep in midfied at Juve.
Didn’t Pogba play further up with Pirlo and Vidal/Marchisio behind him? I don’t disagree with you btw on signing us Thiago. We can make it work if he comes here. Adds serious depth.

If transfers teach us one thing, its this - if there are reports that Player X only wants to join club Y, its bollocks.

Amazing lack of scrutiny around how shit a signing Keita has been.

Think you’re forgetting he played for Barca many years ago and left under a cloud.
Neymar left under a much bigger cloud and all the signs are he’ll return to Barca this summer then there’s Pique, Fabregas and Jordi Alba in recent years and also Thiago left under a whole different regime.

This time round he’d come in as part of a major rebuilding project and as someone who knows and loves the club, after Real won the title last season Barca will want to go all out transfer wise to appease Messi and to avoid falling further behind as Messi is 32-33 and doesn’t have many years left of carrying the club.

He's 33, but Messi could easily play until 37 in a limited capacity.

Messi doesn't really have the legs to be as explosive and carry teams anymore, he's going to need players around him to do the running and sadly they have a squad of aging players.

Barcelona won't rebuild before Messi leaves I don't think (sadly), happens often in sport though when the best leave there's a huge fallout in terms of performances.

I can't see Neymar returning but when he left we couldn't see him leaving either.

As I posted before, this is such a strange move, given his age and the age of their team. My guess is that Klopp has prioritised a second PL win at the expense of long term planning.

As per the greatest logic caf invented, Liverpool board should sack Klopp and Klopp should down tool as he didn't get the player he wanted.

"Either back him or sack him", Liverpool should follow that.

It's a very dangerous precedence to set, Liverpool are a top team currently but they are still way behind Madrid, United financially by some distance.

Klopp has said multiple times he will leave in 2024, but he wants to get the squad in 'good condition' for him leaving too, but I don't see that with these buys.

The rebuilding job in 4 years is huge, you're not talking about adding one player and replacing say a winger, it's replacing a CB, a front 3 and parts of a midfield, and an irreplaceable manager, it's going to be tough.

Klopp went to Liverpool because he respects the club, but they won't be attracting Guardiolas so I just wonder what exactly their strategy is honestly.

Didn't like losing Kroos, won't like losing Thiago. Although the former case was worse as Kroos didn't even want to leave explicitly, just wanted more money. If Thiago's mind is made up, there's not a whole lot the club can do.

Kroos was also 24 at the time, and was clearly deserving of the money... somehow Götze was on more money, and we see how that one worked out.

Thiago will be less of a miss given his age, you'll have to be replacing him in a few years anyway, Kroos obviously would have helped Bayern been dominant in Europe.

All boards make mistakes though.
