If we are poor, we shouldn’t waste our time pursuing someone we couldn’t afford. Just move on to other cheaper options would be good for everyone.
Would you waste all the summer trying to convince car dealer to sell you new Tesla for 20k discount, when they repeatedly told you the price won’t change a penny? Just go buy a Toyota in affordable range if you really need a car, don’t waste all your time dreaming for expensive Tesla if there’s no way you could afford it.
This. This is the biggest problem.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
For what is worth, 120m euros for Sancho would have been a bit too much even in a normal year (especially if had to pay all in a lump sum).
Except it isn't.

Mbappe - €180m (€145m plus €35m add-ons)
Dembele - €145m (€105m plus €40m add-ons)
Felix - €126m
Havertz - €80-100m (different prices everywhere, sitting somewhere between these two figures once the add-ons are payed)

In terms of what they've proven Sancho sits #2 on this list, behind only Mbappe (actually an argument could be made that he's more proven than Mbappe at the time). Without Covid Sancho would probably be a similar figure as Dembele, so €120m already has some discount in there. Personally I think it perhaps should be a little lower (more like €105-110m) but it certainly isn't too much in a normal year.

As for the lump sum, all indications are that Dortmund are fine with getting it in guaranteed instalments spread over a couple of seasons. What they will refuse are add-ons that might never get hit, and if they do might take 4 or 5 years.

@Zehner you're being incredibly gracious considering!
Never wanted to wind anyone up. Can't deny I'd like to get back at some particularly unbearable posters though, but then again, there are man very reasonable fans in this thread, so I just try to resist the irk in my fingertips ;)

There was a young man, from London, Camberwell
He was so good at football, a star, you could tell
Moved to Dortmund from city and tore up the league
whilst Manchester United looked on with intrigue

Such pace, skill and trickery, he plays like a dream
He'd light up the stadium, of any great team
On the left or the right wing, he just takes the piss
You could spend all day counting his goals and assists

But 120 million, is it too much to spend?
We just have to pay it, if we want to contend
Fans all want to sign him, There'd be muppets in Heaven
Ed, just pay the money, make him our new number seven
Reading such a piece of quality poetry in this thread is like stumbling over a 50 carat diamond while wading through the sewers:lol: Hats off

Not buying a Tesla is a pretty big mistake for me, considering that there is no car which is as good at that price. And if I keep it for 10 years, it will be just 4.5k/year. However, I just don't have 45k USD that I am willing to part with.
This but not a tesla because they're pants.

The fecking Glazer ***** on this forum would make you sick. How about, as a goodwill gesture, those fecking parasites put back the £90m they took out in cash dividends?
Where do they crawl out of? I mean, yes, there is an epidemic, football is suffering. Yes, its reasonable to see if Dortmund will blink, etc. But do it with style. With class. How does Woody so often manage to end up looking like a ...

I'm not a massive Ole fan, but he gets a complete pass from me this season when we give up on sancho. We battled Chelsea for 4th for so long last season. The result of that was Chelsea basically buying Europe. Ole gets one rotation player.

Yeah, I think we should have signed a couple of other players who are affordable, the moment it became clear that Sancho has 3 years in his contract.

Problem though, we might have been willing to spend 80-90m on Sancho (spread over a couple of years), but probably are not willing to do so for 2-3 other lesser players (let's say Perisic and some centerback/left back).

Thing is, we mostly know feck all (and neither does Romano) despite pretending that we have a camera in Woody's office and know everything he is doing and trying.

We know however, that we have been poor in transfer market for years.
Nail on the head. I was telling another poster - in this situation, we know nothing concrete. Even the so-called briefs are an unprovable deduction from journos posting in clusters

Signing best and worldclass talents is not a bad strategy IMO. The biggest problem I find is that we are rarely willing to take risks, and when we do we totally feck up (like 50m for Fred, what on Earth we were thinking).

I also fail to believe that the best scouts could have come for 135m to improve in defense were Maguire and AWB. And bear in mind, last year was miles better than the seasons before.

Our recruiting strategy (or lack of) IMO has been the biggest problem since SAF left. With a smart transfer strategy and a competent coach, we should have won many titles. The money spent (contrary to popular's belief here) has been on par with all the big clubs (only less than Barca and City), but the player's quality has been nowhere near.

For what is worth, 120m euros for Sancho would have been a bit too much even in a normal year (especially if had to pay all in a lump sum). I guess it was always going to happen this way, unless BVB lowered their demands, and possibly (speculating), we thought that they will (considering that they need money).
Well if you are buying the best talent, you have to pay the best price too, it applies to everyone else. Here’s a list of transfer (in Euro) for the best young talents over past few years:

1. Mbappe 180m
2. Dembele 145m
3. Joao Felix 126m
4. Havartz 90m
5. De Ligt 85m
6. De Jong 75m

To be fair, Sancho past 2 years stats and performance can match any of them, he would be among the top 2 most talented with best stats/performance in the above list too. 120m for him, in comparison, isn’t really that too much.

I am sure there are a number of posters on here that are employed by the glazers. It is not impossible that they would have a few in their pr department join the biggest Utd forum on the web to post about the board in a positive light at every chance.

The chief editor of the scandinavian supporter site also says in a behind-pay-wall-article that he recieved info tuesday that MUFC still has a high hope of securing Sancho’s signature, and that if he was forced to make a bet on it he would put his money on Sancho joining.

So essentially when Sancho signed the extension?
It's naive to suggest that the club hasn't been well aware of this since he signed it.

But wasn't he crap for England againt Iceland and Denmark. I think we need to take a step back here and look at the game and not the name. If hes this generational talent £110mill player then against those teams he should be doing more. The bundasliga is not as strong as the prem. Send Mason Greenwood over there for a season - he'll play the arse off Sancho. We've been stung too many times buying players from weaker leagues and watching them struggle over in the prem. For me if they want to play hardball - feck em. Get David brookes instead - he looks a player and I think we can nab him for £25-30mill.

Things are truly desperate that we've had to resort to clinging to reports from The Sun.

Some other dodgy paper - maybe the Mirror - reported similar this morning.
They’re taking it from the Norwegian paper
