I dont think it's any, although all three are possibly factors.

Judge cannot be clueless or he would not have lasted here or done any of the transfers so far. He might not be brilliant but hes not clueless.

If Oles fate was already sealed, why is he still here? They had a whole summer to replace him.

Clicks are overrated. Good for the brand but they're not going to make a significant difference, especially when so much of the resultant press is negative.

I think ultimately we are looking at it too much like a business with the risk reward mix, because we have business people running things. There is no way you would spend such vast sums on something so risky in a normal business. 20% of your revenue on an asset (Sancho) that might very well not perform/meet their potential/get injured/whatever else? It would never happen. You would spend less/on less risky purchases, or spread it across multiple purchases, which is what we usually end up doing. But that is not how football works.
Judge is clueless. Since coming here we've been giving ridiculous contract extensions and salaries to players that doesn't reflect their worth. That made it difficult to get rid off them let alone selling them for a profit. Why is he here? Well Matt Judge and Woodward come from the same university. They have a similar background as well. His linked intro speaks for itself

""Managing Manchester United's equity and debt capital structure – three equity offerings incl the IPO, totalling over $450m; and three debt refinancings ($1bn+) – debt private placement, term-loan and RCF. Also player negotiations (transfers and playing contracts)." The latter seem to be an afterthought, a mere detail

Can Ole be fired at this point? He's a club legend whose loved by everyone even from frigging Keane. He took us to 3rd place as well thus fulfilling our minimum criteria.

Clicks seem to be important enough for Woodward to speak about them during the AGM.

I believe that the club are suffering from cold feet having previously spent 130m on defenders only for Ole to ask for more investment there on top of Jadon Sancho. His reluctance not to use the deadwood is hurting the club big time as it makes it more difficult for them to sell them for a profit. Therefore I won't be surprised if they decided to throw him to the wolves and then invest next summer when the financial climate had improved and the club is under a more experienced manager.

Don't see the financial climate being much better then, if at all. Fans will not be in stadiums until the new year now, following the spikes in the virus and the new measures. Other revenue streams will be key.

This is a must signing.

Would be such an upgrade on Luke Shaw in an attacking sense I can't stress enough. Nothing short of a disgrace how we are trying to drive the fee down when he's already a bargain at 25m Euros. I don't think the board have any intention of completing this deal or any other deal before the deadline.

Thiago at that price was a bargain, and he's one of the best midfielders on the planet, we're well within our rights to drive down the price.

This one, as I understand it, sort of makes sense. The player is 90 days away from agreeing a free transfer next season.

You don't think Telles is one of the best LB's itw? It's a crucial position in the modern game and entering a season with Shaw and Williams is frankly preparing to fail. I'm sceptical about whether our aim is to bring the price down or whether we have no intention to do a deal at all.

I'm sure Ed wants to complete the deal, but he wants to get the best price possible given Telles' contract situation.

I'm confident we'll get this one done before the deadline passes.

Incredible technique.
Indeed even when the ball was about to go out for goal kick he was able to whip the cross on target. Our attackers need to improve their heading ability and volley with such delicious crosses like his.

I think it will improve towards the second half of the season.

Aren't you concerned that another club comes in following our very public neogitations and says "we'll pay the 25m" and we miss out yet again?

Haggling over 5m is so idiotic. If you’re trying to save 20m+ I understand. But 5m for us is peanuts.

In 3 months, he will be able to sign with clubs for next season for free..

If he is refusing to sign a new contract, Porto dont have a strong position..

If someone else is in for him, they might come in and sign him if we keep waiting, but if its just us.. dragging it deep will make Porto lower their demands..

They arent exactly going to turn 20m down and let him go on a free..

Ed will be notified if another club places a bid, at which point he can either equal the other clubs offer or walk away. But we both know he'll equal the bid and leave the choice to the player to decide his next destination.

£5m is hardly peanuts, especially in an anti-covid enviroment.

Thats an amazing video of his crosses. Now all we need is to buy Lukaku back cuz otherwise those crosses will go to waste haha

It might also be the difference between getting a Sancho or not.

Cant we bring the fee down by adding Dalot into the deal or are Porto still likely getting potential add-ons/bonuses from that 2018 deal ?

As a standalone figure, perhaps but it's 20% of the fee they allegedly want.

Overlay that on to the £100 that Dortmund reportedly want and you'd save.... £20m.

Maybe they don't want to be seen as tough negotiators and set a precedent.

Though "tough negotiators" is all relative. It'd take them from being shite to awful

Well except you can’t overlay that to the Dortmund deal. They have a set fee and won’t budge so there is no “saving” there. It’s similar to how can’t compare why one player went cheaper than another.

I know you’re only joking about Lukaku, but the thing is that the crosses are so accurate that as long as the run is right, a lot of them are free headers.

The amount of goals we used to score with crosses was nothing to do with the height or power of the strikers.

It really isn't. Where do you draw the line if you're happy to give away £5m on every transfer? Do we just give away players we want £5m for as well? £5m extra wages? don't worry about it.

Hope the clowns on here who are praising the club for driving the price down are happy, first mention on other clubs interested. And a leak to make his wages seem excessive.

Of course we should be driving the price down. We should be paying the least we can for every potential target. You don't just go around offering exactly what the selling club wants. If he goes elsewhere, then good luck to him.

So you think €20m is unreasonable? And why do we conduct it publicly - opens the door for another club to come in and pay it with ease.

Do you think a left back from the Portugese league should go for only €5m less than a midfielder who has won 2 Champions Leagues, 2 Club World Cups and either the Bundesliga or La Liga 9 times in the last 10 years when both have a year left on their contracts?

Wait til someone else does come in a sign him before you start moaning about it. The club have set a value for a player who it seems is keen to join us - lets see what happens before we throw our toys out of the pram.

Sevilla have already signed Marcos Acuna for that position though.

Thiago was an unreal bargain, doesn’t make it the benchmark. What do you think is a fair price? The £12m that was rumoured?

the point is someone else will pay the asking price, no idea how anyone on here can be defending the club over this - or the entire transfer window. It’s taken a week from agreeing terms with him and we still haven’t agreed a fee, with every step conducted via the media. It’s a joke how we are run and all but a select few on here can see that clearly.

Do you think that these things are not already well known in the football world long before they make it to your screen? If another club wants him what are they waiting for?

Of course it's unreasonable. The guy has 1 year left on his contract. He could be free in some months.

United must drive a hard bargain. We are not desperate for a left back as it is.

Its quite encouraging that they have woken up now when it comes to negotiations.

I would say take it to the wire on October 5. So many sellers have been taking us for fools. We must not always pay what they want. Negotiate and meet in the middle

I think someone else takes him at the asking price of €25m, then we can wal away with our heads held high - in the knowledge that we have the Shaw/Williams combo and about 2 assists from LB this season.
