I think Dortmund will find a replacement quite quickly. They seem relatively on the ball in that sense. They probably have some kid already lined up as Haaland's replacement already, plus with a potential big fee heading their way you'll be surprised (or not) at how quickly deals can happen.

Also, Dortmund are quite familiar with this scenario.

They know how to play this game.

So in terms of a light update we have a "feeling" from reputable-ish reporters: James Ducker, Laurie Whitwell, Sam Luckhurst & James Cooper that there will be a bid for Sancho of sorts made in toward the final week of the window.
My 2 cents is: -Dortmund want EUR108m (reported everywhere), - We know we won't write a cheque for this much (As per James Cooper), but: - we hold out hope that 1) the offer we do give is one that Dortmund can flip to make it look good, or 2) the official bid will allow Sancho to push from his side to Dortmund to accept, in which case they can save face with the whole "he wanted to go" line + they a decent enough £.

^^ Once this supposed bid is put forward, I'd imagine events thereafter to unfold very quickly, either with Sancho as a United player, or us moving to Sarr or similar. Reckon next week is the week for bigger updates.
Which is why we completed all the wages and agent fee work beforehand so its oven ready.
Also we can push our brinksmanship literally to the last hour, and still fall back on Brooks or Sarr as contingency (those deals also ready to go) as EPL and Championship clubs window still open for 10 more days

Entire strategy is now making alot of sense. The fear was we might get stranded without anything a la Moyes, but seems like Woody has all angles covered. Looks like he has handled this very well.

Seriously, if we've been waiting until the last week of the window to drop a £90m offer that Dortmund don't have any time to think about or refuse we might be the biggest winds ups in world football.

Right.. let’s just use a bit of common sense..

Let’s pretend for a minute that this is true, that we’re making a bid in October.

we’ll be making that bid in complete confidence that it’ll be accepted. We’re not going into the last week of a window, willing to spend £100m ish if we have any doubt that the deal won’t be done.

You can only apply brinksmanship if you are truly willing to walk away. As I wrote in my post above, the fact that we can still sign Brooks or Sarr after the European window closes, means we have that option. I dont think its 100%, but Dortmund know they could miss out on the best offer they will ever get. And its easy to talk in theory of rejecting bids, but under brinksmanship, are you really going to turn down +-£85m???

(I think transfer market will be very tough next summer as all clubs will be skint or wont be able to justify within FFP. Just cos City got let off on a technicality last time doesn't mean they can flaunt it again in future)

Has anything that has happened in this window or the last few windows given you that confidence? Because as far as I can see we feck up everything one way or another. Hell even if we get him, we got him 2 months later than we should have (especially if we're paying similar money).

Mitten covers the scourge of transfer muppetry, tiers of transfer journalists and getting abused for telling the truth about transfers  (from 4m 15s)
He covers every issue Redcafe posters have stated about the state of our transfer window (ins and outs).

If we are making a £90+ mega bid in the last week or the window then Dortmund have already suggested to Ed and co that it may be accepted.

Thats how I’m reading this.

Describes the state a lot of the posters on here in that vid tbh

Where he mentions that journo are seen as gods if they get it right but the worst journo ever if they get it wrong.

A certain posters opinion of Romano springs to mind with the above

A lot of truth in there, but without being another redcafe arse, nothing your average armchair fan couldn't have put together.

Unlike your average fan, Mitten has solid and trusted contacts within the club and the city, which isn't true for the newspaper journo's. And its such a length relationship and he is a lifelong fan too, so he gets the context. And I trust him because he always tells you whether he is offering his opinion vs journalistic and sourced facts. He rarely speculates for the sake of sensationalism or just to get clicks.

Im often amazed at how Redcafe has become so efficient and comprehensive at aggregating information sources on every aspect of the clubs existence. Most United fans are not as obsessed as heavy redcafe posters, so a redcafe posters knowledge will be quite profound vs your normal punter. I think we forget how just how much we know now and how little we knew before.

I'm reading it as the opposite, Ed knows it'll be rejected but it makes it look like he tried as hard as he could.

All the closest sources to United are giving indications that we're very much still in the race for him. Whether you see that as PR spin for Woodward or not, it's at least positive reporting from reliable sources close to United.
