Is this the worst goal we have conceded in the PL era?

I can't remember a worse one.

The loss of possession, the lack of any desire to get it back, the joke attempts at clearing the ball.

If any one can post one that can top that, you have a super memory.

I cant remember them all, but this one has to be up there. Even worse that it came at a point where it looked like we would go on and get the points.

Reminded me of the Leipzig goal. Similar in that it was due to poor communication. De Gea needs to own his area, which he failed to do for both goals yesterday.

I realize we are talking PL here but that goal away to Istanbul in this year's CL group stage has to be the worst we've conceded in 20 yrs.

The more you watch it the worse it gets. It's not even sunday league level because at that level it would still have been hoofed away and dealt with.

Sheffield United didn't even seem like they wanted to score. If felt like a let's attack really slowly to waste time kind of attack and somehow we let them score.

The players had the "they'll turn it over to us in second" attitude through the whole phase.

Actually couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Exactly the thought I had after the game last night. Horrible, pathetic and absurd. Sunday league stuff. Very worrying that we can switch our concentration and determination off like that for almost an entire match every now and then.

That one at least there was somewhat of a dangerous ball onto the box.

This was snails pace attack and passing that somehow ended up in 3 terrible attempts at our goal that we ended letting in.

The one where we had our entire match day squad, the coaching staff, the ushers and the tea lady inside the goal mouth and they punted it up field and one on one'd Dean Henderson against Basaksehir was worse imo.

You aren't usually given this much space in a professional football game, three or four times in a row. I think they were just surprised with what was happening, this may have never happened to them since they were playing U14 football. I think their brains switched to thinking there must have been a whistle a moment before, otherwise we wouldn't have been behaving this way.

Such an embarrassing goal. Look at how bemused Burke is to receive that much time and space, twice!

Bit of a worry that three of our worst/most comical goals conceded ever are all this season.

That one, the Demba Ba goal in the EL and the one where Maguire/Bailly slapstick ended up in Maguire rugby tackling Luke Shaw.

Special mention to Bailly for conceding a penalty by pointing.

If de gea puts his foot through it like a normal keeper then its not a goal. Its a throw in and we can reorganise

The Taibi goal will take some beating but this is up there and could be worse. I haven’t seen the Taibi one in years.

The passive nature of the goal was unbelievable. I can just imagine how SAF would have been raging from the touchline after that. He'd have scared the players into a reaction.

Struggling to think of a worse one off the top of my head but we have conceded some really poor goals over the last few years.

Whenever i think of comedy defending I always think of the three goals we conceded in this game.

But to be honest, last nights goal had as many mistakes as those three goals combined. There have been individual howlers - Taibi for example - but last night was a real team effort.

We can include most of the Spurs goals probably.

So many shit moments in that sequence of play but if Telles just puts him over the line at the start then job done.

100%. Others then needed to react when he didn’t on that second goal though.

I can't remember one. Especially when you consider where we are in the table, what's at stake and who we're playing. I just can't understand it.

I already posted this in the "postmatch" discussion, but I think it applies here too. Lots of teams could get a shot off when they're seven v five in and around the penalty box.

---
I couldn't believe what happened with Sheffield's second goal, so I re-watched it.

If you look closely, you'll see that several players care less about clearing the danger than the glory of our next counter-attack.

Martial is stood waiting for the ball, as is Cavani, as is Bruno. Rashford is out of shot, so is presumably waiting on our right hand side.

Pogba is in the penalty box, but stands there doing nothing, like his job is to feed Martial, Bruno, Rashford or Cavani, not defend.

It's as if all those players are already thinking about our counter-attack, because Sheffield are so far up the pitch, that's the time to pounce.

That's why seven Sheffield players could pass it so easily around our five actual defenders (the defence + Matic)

We didn't clear the danger. We got punished.

Next time, defend first, counter-attack second!

This is what I thought, we’d been all over them and looking likely to score with Sheffield United never looking dangerous. We were just waiting for them to duck up so we could attack again instead of being worried and trying to win it back. Really bad attitude by so many players in that goal

Fred passing to Baillys outstretched arm pointing only resulted in a free kick if I remember correctly

Poor poor poor defending. It shows lack of professionalism from the players.

I would not call out Bruno because he does track and run back however; Rashford, Martial, Telles are the worst offenders when it comes to defensive duties.

If they start the next game, the manager needs to be questioned. Its all good praising him when things are good however; he needs to be criticised for pursuing with certain players.

Martial has been off form since July. Why is Cavani not starting every game.

Our most in form player is Luke Shaw, play him.
