A win is so important today as it would put us 9 or more points clear of all the 5th and below clubs with 9 matches left. I hope the players respond like they did vs MC.

Mathematically that would mean if we win 15 points out of the next 27 our chasers would need to win 24 out of 27. Wrap up top 4 today and we can play more freely to get 2nd and win a cup.

Finished 2nd is a trophy then ya?
No the Europa isn't a major trophy.

It's hilarious the same people who are claiming standards have dropped think winning the Europa is something to celebrate.

Obviously it's a competition we are in so we should be winning it but it's not important and I won't be jumping for joy over it.

I'm talking about this young team not that Jose team with many on their last legs immediately before he burned the gaff down.
So your argument still doesn't make any sense cause. Winning a trophy would help this young team learn something.

Doesn't matter what trophy. Any trophy bis better than none especially when we are on our longest run without one since Ferguson left

Got a feeling this won't be pretty especially with our attacking options :nervous:

I think we will need Bruno to really step up today, i would even be tempted to play him as a false 9

    Rashford----Bruno----Greenwood
    ----------------McTominay--------------
    --------------Matic------Fred--------------
    ---Shaw----Maguire---Lindelof---AWB
    -----------------Henderson--------------------

Where's the evidence that winning a cup competition does this?

Cup competitions are a lottery and winning them isn't an indicator of future success in my book.

People are debating here over which competition is more important this season so Rashford can be rested in the other one, completely forgetting that Marcus is 23 years old, as fit as a footballer can be and has been passed fit by the physios. He will start both games as he absolutely should, and then the FA Cup one next weekend too. He’s our 2nd best player!

Honestly, I can’t understand some of you guys’ obsession with resting players. Let’s settle on the fact that not just the PL and EL, but the FA Cup is important too.

I am worried about today. I have a feeling we will pick up form again after the international break with some players having had rest and coming back from injury.
Worst timing as today, Milan and Leicester are important games.

Telles in midfield? Surely Matic as a 6 & Fred/Scott as 8s would be better?
This I like consider the players we missing today. And a bit moore hight in the team doesn't hurt as well for this game!
I didn't pick Matic in my team today, but I think he will suite the game good.

Our injury list, OT form, recent results v WH and their form this season makes me worried for this

Just because you feel that way doesn’t mean everyone else has to. I throughly enjoy watching my team lift trophies and have celebrated everyone in my lifetime. Having seen them lift all 3 European tournaments that have been available was a great achievement for the club.
if you only value certain trophies, then that’s your problem, I’m glad I don’t share it.

I'd argue a year on year improvement in league position is a better indicator of future success.
It can be. But winning trophies can be too. And our barren run without a trophy is becoming way too long.

What will be the excuse for next year? Cause after last year when we lost 3 semi finals most people where in agreement that he has to do better and win a trophy.

Fair enough and each to their own, maybe it's because Ajax were never a threat I don't know but it did feck all for me.

Then Mourinho getting the lads to hold up three fingers (one of which being for the Charity Shield) took whatever gloss was left off it for me.

Perhaps if this team won it I'd feel differently but I don't get the obsession winning a trophy any trophy. There's only two that really matter.

If City found themselves in the EL by coming third in the group Pep would go all out to win it.

Why you think he goes all out for the Carling cup every year?

Winning will help this squad. That's a good as reason to go for it as any.

If winning cup competitions was as random as you suggest, the likes of York, Doncaster and Spurs would feel the need to build trophy cabinets to house all their silverware. But this is not the case.

Winning the EL would certainly send a message that this team is capable of crossing the finish line. Ole and his team have picked up a reputation of bottling due to failing at the semi-final stage several times. That rep will only grow the longer the team goes without winning anything.

Many refused to acknowledge Poch as the future United manager because he failed to win anything with Spurs. PSG cared not, however.

Your poch point is a very good one tbh. So many people would say what has he won but yet are okay with Ole not winning anything.

Ole SHOULD be expected to win either the FA cup or Europa League because he is managing Manchester United. You have to win things simple as.

Nobody is ok with Ole winning nothing. Believe it or not even Ole-in posters want the best for the club, ironically it’s that very concern for the long term benefit of the club that drives their patience with Ole and to do that you need look past a poxy cup trophy that we’ve won dozens of times.

Id rather keep a manager making slow progress with the correct direction for the club than win an FA cup this season, any day of the week. The latter will follow. Avoiding another 8 years of obscurity is my primary concern.

Squad is good enough to be winning a trophy every second year at least. Especially when we are in the EL.

It's not an either or between top 4 and trophies.

Do you consider it as big as the FA- cup ore bigger?
I rate the the Europa bigger than FA. But of course smaller then the league and champions.
We should count it quite big just because of the money it brings.

And it gets us in Pot 1 of the CL which would avoid drawing a group like we did this season.

Thats another reason the EL is very very important to us. Ends our trophy drought and makes next season a bit easier

Standards have dropped claiming we should ignore a European cup competition so we can finish just behind the league winners albeit finishing on double digits behind them .

The bottling thing is idiotic... Like we wouldn't get that label if we continuously got to the quarter final... So it's just a wierd reach to make it seem like getting to several back to back semis is worse than consistently getting knocked out earlier ? Cos then you aren't bottling ?
