Leeds have conceded the most goals this season from set pieces at 15 goals

Manchester United are second in the league at 14 goals conceded from set pieces which is shocking,

For some Context:
Here are goals conceded from our nearest rivals (and Arsenal and Spurs)

City: 3
Liverpool: 10
Chelsea: 6
Leicester: 10
Arsenal: 4
Spurs: 7

Some damning stats that, do we even have a set piece coach ? if so sack them and get a better one ASAP

Call me crazy but I dont think its a surprise when your team has a poor set piece defending record when you have a CB whos main vulnerability is in the air and usually isnt even defending against one of the biggest threats on set pieces, so midfielders and fullbacks are trying to do it instead. Maguire is no Vidic but he normally does his individual part, but we usually look vulnerable when the ball comes in whether he is playing or not

Apart from 1 or 2 of our players, the rest just seem to stand there and hope for the best. Almost nobody is commanding the box and taking charge, especially when Maguire isn't playing.

Do City even have many big or aerially dominant players? We desperately need a set piece coach.

Set piece defending has been awful for a long time. No aggression in defending and too many players hoping for the best. Our set piece deliveries while attacking have actually improved. But do we ever get a sense we are ever a threat or we will score. No. There's something systematically wrong in the way we set up to defend a set piece.

" For example, Pert oversees offensive set pieces, with Hartis taking on defensive ones "
According to TGG, Hartis our " Senior goalkeeping coach " is in charge of our defensive set pieces. Given how bad we've been at them, Ole has to give alot of thought in the summer how to change this and for sure remove Hartis from the role.

Liverpool was a condensate of how we’ve conceded goals this season. 2 goals from setpieces and 2 goals after loss of possession in dangerous areas.

Do City even have many big or aerially dominant players? We desperately need a set piece coach.
No not really, but corners are more about organisation. Most of the goals we have conceded from corners have been when someone got a free run and then it is easy outjump even dominant defenders like Maguire (Tarkowski goal was a good example). City have a very dominant goal keeper though.

It is because we do zonal marking. It has to be at least a mix of both. The man who is training the set piece defending and attacking is an idiot. He cannot see that day after day we make the same mistakes.

It's pretty disgraceful how a massive issue like this still hasn't been sorted out.

It feels like we concede from a set piece at least once a game every game.

This thread should actually just be called our defending of any kind of ball in the air across the box. Its pretty terrible either way.

Shaw let him run and didn't look like their was any communication to Lindelof

A full season of being unable to sort it out and it will ultimately cost Solskjaer a trophy. You get what you fecking deserve.

Since Maguire has been out, a wide free kick 40 yards out is like a fecking penalty against us.

goals from set pieces is where we were higher than the other top teams last season too. Stop pretending this is a new problem

If we defend set-pieces like this next season then we're not going to improve much beyond where we are.

It's arguably the most consistent thing about our team at this point. Regardless of personnel, tactics or occasion, we look vulnerable.

What a terrible way to concede in a European final. The good news is that more often than not we go on to win when this happens...

It's pretty obvious that it can't be fixed because of the players.
 Even Big Sam is (was) able to make his teams strong in set pieces, what kind of excuse is that. It can be fixed, we never were that bad at it before Ole, having even worse players. Our coaching staff is just useless at it.

We just repeat same errors over and over with nothing being done to correct it. Negligent management that something so basic hasn’t been improved.

It's such a massive part of football.

In these tight tense close games, having such a monstrous flaw with set pieces is absolutely fatal.

Teams know if they just keep it tight for as long as they can, if they can win a few corners or free kicks chances are they can nick it.

Does anyone know the number of set piece goals we have conceded this season as a percentage of total goals conceded?

Big Sam would never have Lindelof in his team. The keeper wouldn't be playing either.

Watching the goal reply as a former centre half and I am appalled. This has to be Lindelof last game for us.
There'll be his usual defenders on here telling us how he's better than X,Y & Z. He's the most passive CB United ever had in my lifetime and I'm watched Bruce-Pallister duo.

Not only Lindelof. Shaw lets Moreno go and he goes behind Vic who looks casual. Bad from both

I don't disagree that he is passive, soft and also imo a bit of a coward.

But I don't see how he could have done better for this goal. Put Maguire there and it would've been the same result. Lindelof is slow Moreno had a run on him its not like Lindelof didn't try to keep up couldve been a pen if Moreno dived from the shirt pull.

My dad was also a defender and he said "he knows the striker is there as he can feel him". Yet he then put all focus on the man and didn't bother trying to cut the ball out and almost lost sight of it and it's trajectory. You are supposed to watch the man yes but at a point you have to actually attack the ball or stop it getting to the man. That was just weird and pathetic. Never let the ball bounce!

Coaching or players issue?

The dread I feel when we concede a corner is actually insane.
