McTominay aside no one can leave holding their heads high after that performance. Villareal are not world beaters they have one chance and scored in the 1st half, we lacked urgency and imagination. Pogba and Bruno were awful tonight. Rashford brain dead football as usual, if he wants Barca/Real move, I'll happily drive him there, stupid subbing Mason ahead of him by Ole. We didn't start increasing the tempo until the second half, as per usual this season, and then in ET its like the players hit a brick wall. No strength in depth meant Ole reluctant to use his substitutes. Very disappointing end to the season.

Part of me wanted us to win as it is still a trophy but another part of me is saying we shouldn’t win this one, we’re Manchester United. Anyway, a loss is a loss and I never like any, even in friendlies..

Imagine going into penalties with DDG, did he save more than 5 penalties in his life i wonder.

Also, dunno why people bitching that we lost, winning shit stopped being important in here for some time now.

He’ll never win anything, so your saying let’s give to 2023 and still no trophies?
That will be 6 years, it’s bad enough that he defends the owners but he’s clearly clueless in big games, you don’t lose 4 semi finals and a Final unless your doing something wrong !
I love ole, I do but a player who was clearly world class was happy to sit on the bench because he believed other players were better than him, he loves talking about Sir Alex, but he’s the manager and unfortunately ole is not and will never be an elite manager Never
you May have a point.. but he’s not going anywhere next season, you know that, right?
So let’s hope he is backed and learns from it and next season we come out flying! It’s the only hope we have honestly...

The bottler with a far superior squad bottled it again. Emery is the better manager who won the game with inferior group of players. Now please tell me which trophy will Ole win and when.

The trophy drought goes into a 5th year and Solskjaer won't get many better chances to win silverware than that. As tough of a cup final defeat to take on the chin as possible for United, beaten on the lottery of penalties in sudden death whereby all outfield players scored. A sad end to what could be DeGea final match with United.

Congratulations to Villarreal some achievement by them to win their first ever final and in Emery they have a manager that loves this competition, scored from their only shot on target and exploited Uniteds weakness all season of switching off on a set piece. Villarreal also defended very well all night and never allowed any of United key players to have much of an impact on that game.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

Our managers lack of faith came to our downfall.

It was clear for all to see that Rashford wasn't in the game. Yet, there he goes, finishing the game.

Bruno was cut off. Change something.

Widen them, short them. Change something.
Change the goalkeepeer for the pens?

I still back Ole but am worried. On paper this should be a tough but commanding 2-0 win to us. And we were atrocious tonight. Two shots on target or something. How are we supposed to win the PL or CL if we cannot beat Villareal in a controlled manner.

Watch Pep win on saturday to rub it in.

It feels pretty shit. I don’t think it is, I don’t think we will, but I don’t have any real hope of us collecting major trophies under Ole.

We can all call for more investment, more transfers, but that squad is a mile better than theirs. It’s a complete embarrassment.
I've always felt that he is not really the problem or the solution. Just an acceptable face for the Glazers. A better run club would attract a better manager. But he's better than his immediate predecessors.

Doesn't make them the better team, they won because Rashford missed a sitter and got through to a penalty lottery.

Anti football at its finest, never deserving of the win.
You sound like Klopp

Bitterly disappointing. The end of the season has had a flat feel to it for a while and we couldn't get up for that as a team.

Ole's subs/game management had me fuming I must say, but the performances were not good enough on the night. Rashford diabolical, Bruno and Pogba poor, us playing too easily into their hands with few overlaps, sloppy possession, aimless passing.

We're stumbling over the line after two hard seasons, they had a CL place to play for, fine. But we've been outthought and outfought by a team we beat on paper every day of the week, so there must be an inquest into how we've meekly surrendered the game and the trophy to them.

I wish Villareal all the best, we did not deserve it on the night.

Don’t get me started on AWB. Absolutely pointless in general and even more so tonight. Tied with Rashford for worst player on the pitch.
I've got to the point now where I feel AWB is SO bad at attacking that I'm willing to give up his defensive abilities and replace him with someone who can get a half decent cross in. He's absolutely hopeless going forward. Has no idea what to do.

That game is on Ole. Game management was shockingly bad. As an impact player mainly off the bench in his playing days must know the importance of changing personnel.

Maguire is v important to the rhythm of the team, no shock we’ve been worse while he’s out but the whole team looks bankrupt. We desperately need some fresh blood in there.

McT was pretty good. Get Rice in at 6 and give McT a proper run at 8.

Pogba and De Gea can depart.

Need better options up front and off the bench as well.

Well done to the 10 penalty takers. Didn’t deserve to lose but didn’t deserve to win either.

If Rashford is through on goal with the goalkeeper camped in the corner of the net enjoying a turkey sandwich, I never expect him to put away the chance.
Yet Ole kept him on and took so long to make a change.

Ole's tactic.
Hope that someone does something special.
Players looked tired the longer it went on.
So much for our attacking force.
Well we’re missing Martial who has a hell of lot more skill than Rashford in those 1-2-1s. They were a horrible team to break down. No one in La Liga has scored more than 2 goals against them. That includes RM, AM and Barca. They are dull as ditchwater but hey, they have a plan and stick to it.

Our squad is not strong enough, we need quality reinforcements Grealish and Sancho both needed as we can no longer rely on MASSIVE BIG EGO(MBE) Marcus anymore and hate to say it but Bruno goes missing in the big games.

Feel for the boys, horrible way to lose but we only had 2 shots on target all game, therein lies the problem

Big ups to Scott and Mason who both played very well.

Our end of the season was horrible. Our bench is too weak.

Unfortunately the teams major weaknesses of inability to keep the ball, players just not showing up, inability to defend set pieces and the obviously problem of too many bang average footballers getting game time just cost us against a team we were clearly superior to.

To lose the Europa League these last 2 years when we really should have been winning it also shows major mentality issues with this team.

Let's be honest, Villareal absolutely shithoused it. Defended for 115 minutes. We weren't great but we deserved to win in the 90 mins. Ole should have had a plan b in place though as we looked dead in extra time, also should have Tim Krul'd it.

Proud of the lads. Good season but really should have got that trophy for Ole.

Penalties was always going to be a lottery. villareal played the exact game they hoped for. They were in dreamland when they scored first as they knew we would be chasing.

Lindelof should be replaced in the summer. Don't want to see him in the first eleven anymore. Tuanzebe makes far less mistakes even.

A real shame because now all the Ole out people will somehow blame it on him.

We deserved the victory. We were the better team but similar to sevilla last season, we got smash and grabbed.

OGS really has no luck as a manager. Hopefully that changes and we get stronger from this.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for the Glazers not to spend upwards of 100m this summer. Absolutely NONE.
We don’t deserve to win this. Villarreal is a small club in a city of 500 thousands souls, they are poppers compared to us. How do you expect them to play this ?

We created nothing, conceded a soft goal, had all the ball and did nothing with it and completely stopped playing after full time. We really played like loosers tonight, let the pressure have the better of us.

Finishing second in the league and runners up in the Europa league means we are not far away so our owners shouldn`t have to invest too much into the squad .

Truly horrific final
Maybe if Ole mad a sub earlier we wouldn’t have been so disjointed in ET. Would have been fully justified as well with a couple of shocking performances. Awful in game management before panic subs with penalties in mind.
How Rashford stays on
How DDG doesn’t commit to a corner at pens..or even save 1 is almost laughable.
As good as some pens were there were saveable ones. I expect a Man Utd keeper to save at least one of 11 consecutive penalties. Not the only reason we lost but jeez
