for all their poor form, i thought they showed why they were the favourites in patches - particularly the 3 goal burst today and parts of the group stage games. their top level is way above the other teams.
i hope spain or italy take it, just not that awful belgian "team".

Held back by a negative manager. His team selection and tactics were appalling.

Deschamps fecking around in the first half cost them.

Trying to stroke his ego by showing he's some big bollocks tactical genius, instead of just keeping it simple... Because he wants to show he's winning it, not just because he has the best squad by far.
I think that's key difference between Spain winning 3 in a row and the France and Germany teams of the last decade.

Spain genuinely had a world class coach who maximised the talent at hand (not necessarily with the style). Germany and France have had average managers who stumbled onto golden generations

As I said couple of days ago, France not building up side to control games has ultimately cost them. It's ridiculous to suggest they can't play proactively, because they obviously can. This is sad excuse of a team.

I thought there were frailties in the French team from their opening match. They were too casual. When they were breaking they were caught offside because of not releasing the ball quick enough. Mbappe, nothing went right since his goal was not given against Germany. His timing was off and finishing was poor. He needs to play in a more competitive league.

Deschamps' in game management was diabolical. Arrogance, casual, lethargic, going through the motions, questions need to be asked. Tolisso should have been brought on to protect that defence because Kimpembe is a mistake waiting to happen. Also for Pogba's brilliance he takes risks in midfield. I am disappointed.

France was good to watch and will be hard to emulate their aesthetics on this tournament, but it's not impossible.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them move for Zidane now. The job would probably suit him as well.

By far the best I’ve seen France play all tournament. Deschamps fecked up in the first half, but they were brilliant after that.

Kimpembe must be glad Mbappe is going to take the blame. He was dreadful on the third goal, has no right to get beaten in that position.

It’s criminal to have that kind of team and not dominate possession. Way too passive against dross. Luis Enrique would have dominated every tournament with this team.

Zidane would be a step up for sure, he needs to go now so they can start preparing for a better showing in the WC otherwise they risk squandering a very talented generation of players.

Side note but I saw some people criticising Lloris because he got a hand to that penalty without saving it, which is very harsh.

Aside from the fact that he had already kept France in the game with a penalty save within the 90min, the penalty where he got a hand to the ball was one where he guessed wrong and opted to stay down the middle rather than going in the right direction. It was excellent reactions to get a hand on it at that point and it would have been a superb save if he had kept it out.

I always thought they won't win the Euros because it is always virtually impossible for any teams to win back to back major tournament but I never thought they would get knocked out in the round of 16. They have to be the biggest let-down in this tournament. Beat Germany 1-0 at their home ground, despite not stepping up a gear in their opening game. Came back from behind to level with Hungary and drew with Portugal to win the group, and widely expected to beat Switzerland and they let a 2 goal lead slip. Bottlers. I take my words back on them being much mentally stronger than past French teams. It's England/Germany/Italy's tournament to lose now.

They were 2 up with a few min left. Their attitude cost them.
Pogba cost them
Their attitude too, but he’s their manager. Managing their attitude is a big part of the job. Playing Rabiot at left back sent the message this game wasn’t to be taken seriously.

And Pogba cost them nothing.

Have to agree. No way someone like him was going back to back in international tournaments, you actually have to be a top coach to accomplish that. This time the players didn’t save him.

He's actually replaced Griezmann with Sissoko in the minute 88, which pretty much shows how weak mentality he has.

I'm not sure World cup winners and the side who everyone perceives as the world's best enjoys playing the shite he wants them to play. Imagine being Mbappe or pretty much anyone else and instead of getting advice on how to score against Nico Elvedi, you are actually getting advice on how to position yourself defensively so that Haris Seferović and Admir Mehmedi cause you no trouble. And game after game after game it's all the same.

Switzerland has actually had more ball possession in the extra time than France, it's ridiculous.

It's not even so much about dominating possession. I don't care about that, counter attacking football can be as exciting as anything. They don't even play counter attacking football really. They just aim to shut things down and stop football from being play. They aim to stop open games, they aim to slow the pace down and just win it on moments like Southgate is doing for England. I can't fecking stand that. It's Mourinho ball and I don't want to see that from any big teams and I hope big teams who play like that lose every time.

The French team were just not hungry for the win. They were practically sleeping before Switzerland's first goal. Most of the players couldn't be bothered and were taking things for granted. Or another way to look at is they already expended out a lot of energy against Germany, Hungary and Portugal and they tot they did enough against the Swiss, not forgetting the Swiss were playing Shaqiri as AMC and he only played 14 league games in a season mostly as a sub. Mbappe also needs to improve in his shooting.

While Shaqiri may be off-form, there are others who are still on-forms who step up to score 3 goals for the Swiss!

I am not usually a reactionary, but I do think the coaches position comes into question. As I mentioned his in game management has been poor throughout the tournament. He has been stating that France's training was focused on them peaking at the right time.

He has failed misarebly and therefore I think he should be removed.

In terms of the squad, I think they missed a Blaise Matuidi in midfield. I thought there were times when Kante got pushed around. Firstly, Renato Sanches and then tonight. Matuidi was someone who mopped up and alongside Kante got attacks going.

I don't know what Sissoko was doing there in the squad. He was a 2016 choice. Another brain fluctuance by Deschamps. Pis* poor. Mbappe did look like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and I'm afraid he did bottle it.

Is Lloris the most fortunate footballer in history to have been the best goalkeeper for the French in this era?
He isn't the best. Maignan is probably better but LLoris did won the world cup. Logically speaking, you cannot switch away a world cup winning keeper for no good reason.

Well, hopefully, Pogba and maybe Varane can focus on signing a contract with us!
