Oh well, if we had to win and lose one each of the West Ham games, this is the one you throw away, I guess.

Martial clearly isn't fecked with football any more. If he was a horse he'd be turned into glue by now, which might actually improve his work rate.

We should have signed sancho from dortmund instead.

And sheriff the shadow of martials shadow did nothing up front.

How he be a shadow of his shadow?

Would love to be proven wrong, just can’t see us ever winning anything under Ole.

Onwards & upwards anyway. Better to go out of this than the CL or FA cup.

Why are people in the matchday thread upset? City will win this trophy anyway, it’s better not to play a lot of needless games and get knocked out early rather than in the semifinals:wenger:
It keeps the squad players happy I guess. Or would have done if they'd won.

Bunch of players picked that we know aren't really good enough. It's okay to go out of this cup if we win something else, very difficult to do that though. With the mixed results this season its difficult to have faith that Ole will get something over the line for us...

No excuses. Started off poorly then laboured to create chances. It’s not good enough and Ole should be under pressure
I can't see this result have any real effect. It was a meaningless cup game where we played a second string team after all.

Looking at both teams named , it is a game on paper that we should be winning , it was a chance for those lads not seeing much game time to show Ole wast they can do , not many of them took it and Ole knows outside of his first team players he can't really trust many in this squad to step in right now.

Least important competition , but still disappointing to go out at home in a game they should be winning.

we rotated and gave the squad players a chance, they failed. You should be able to beat a backup West Ham squad at home.

Wait, you're serious?
Yeah am not happy with the way we’re playing this season. There’s no signs of us gelling and that’s worrying. Areola didn’t have to make one big save.

That was embarrassing. I cannot understand how people are happy with displays like this. We were playing at home against a mediocre team and we never looked like scoring.
Nobody has said they are happy, have they?

Most normal folk just aren’t that arsed.

Started a second string side and played good football. Lots of dangerous moments and no goals, just one of those days.

VdB was excellent and should really start more. Matic can't even play a full 90 anymore.

Not too bothered actually. Might mean a little bit more rest for the players. Martial needs to be shipped out asap though.
Have you seen our squad depth? If with that depth we are worried about competing in a competition then we might has well sell half of these guys.

Couldn’t care less. Didn’t play that bad but very toothless. Some of our our passing in the last few minutes was shocking.

oh well onto the next one

We have a huge squad and a chance to win a trophy for the first time in 4 years and we completely facked it. We are never winning anything under Ole. Fuming.

Bad start did us in. Thought we played well after that, especially considering you're playing 9 Vs 12. Martial might as well have stayed home. Matic was playing for West Ham. Thought Van de Beek did well. Should have had an assist. Greenwood should have scored but other than that he did well Sancho was alright. Bruno was atrocious. Thought Lindelof played well.

Dominated large parts of the game. Got into good positions but just lacked that cutting edge.

I think we played well.

Special mention to Donny, who I thought was very good.

Martial was shocking, really really poor. Cavani or Ronaldo up top tonight and we win about 4-1.

Van de Beek is massively over rated on here. He was at fault for the goal by going to sleep and ball watching. He’s not getting anywhere near Fred/ McTominay/Pogba with performances like that
His (VDB) cult like status is bizarre. He is average at best.

We played ok. Good points firstr 11, VDB Matic played well. Lindelof as well. Was Martial even on the pitch? This was a trophy we could have realistically have won, but we couldnt muster a good chance on goal with the team on, so lets put it to bed and move on.

Donny’s best game for us. Hopefully starts on Saturday after that.

Meh, it would have been better if had won. But glad that the team doesn't have to play two-legged semi-finals. I don't think Ole wanted it that bad - he waited till 75 to send Bruno on.

Why did Martial play the 90. Should have subbed him off for Greenwood. Made no sense. Main striker not in squad. The only other one who is having a good season playing wide right while the other player in form gets subbed although he was doing decent.
That I didn't get. He was awful. Just didn't look bothered. Should have left Lingard on. More chance of a goal.

I thought we played ok, we’re just toothless with Martial in the middle. It’s certainly not the first time we’ve seen it. I thought VdB looked quite tidy and Sancho had his moments.

Annoying result, but it’s the league cup so who gives a shit. We won the more important game against West Ham.

With no league cup and having blown our chances of a comfortable qualification from our Champions League group, we are now going to have a lot of players not even getting a kick.

I feel sorry for the likes of Lindelof and Mata who did no wrong tonight and for the youngsters waiting for their chance.

Frustrating loss against a West Ham side that had 1 shot on target until the 87th minute.

27 Man United shots showed the amount of huffing and puffing they did but was unable to blow Moyes defensive tactics down. Tonight highlighted once again if it was needed that this United squad is still full of dead wood.

I got in the second half great energy and commitment, some exhilarating work by Greenwood, and a sense that Martial and VdB are lost.

We played well enough to win just lacked the finishing. Stonewall penalty denied in the 1st half.
