The funny thing is, if we did win the LC all those bitching and moaning in here would not give a single feck & use it as a reason to get rid of him: “oh he can only win the League Cup, not good enough, I could do that with my eyes shut”

While on the other hand match going fans seem to be fully behind Ole

United fans often clap off the team then moan about them in the pub, thats normal. I don't think there's an overwhelming desire to get rid of Ole, but don't imagine that all the locals are totally happy with the manager.

Haaland don’t give a damn about Ole. You think he’s some type of mentor to him?
When did i say that? I just said out of Conte vs Ole - I feel Ole can bring Haaland here because he wanted him here for a long time and he has bought big name/game players.

I just want that to continue for a bit more but I obviously can't see the future. That is all.

They also chanted Jose's name until he was fired.

Our home crowd, rightly, always show support for the manager until the end.

Mata isn't really arsed if he plays or not, he's got a coaching role to walk into next season and he can't play more than 60 minutes anymore. I'm sure he would have been fine getting the second half run out. Martial has had over 12 months to find his form/confidence/fitness, it ain't happening. His movement was bad back then, it's still bad now, surely that is seen in training. It's trusting players like Martial to do a job that will get Ole fired and he needs to wake up and realise this. He can't say before the game that he's playing players that need game time, then come out after the game and say these lads can't play well against a low block, he fecking picked them, why is he speaking like a pundit that has no skin in the game? It feels like he's losing touch with what his actual role is at the moment.
Building a happy squad includes giving chances to players to show they can deliver. If Martial has done enough in training to show he is worth a starting spot, that's what matters. Remember that the manager and coaches see the players every day in training for a lot more time than 90 minutes on matchday.

The same match going fans that were cheering Moyes and Mourinho till the bitter end. I wouldn't say it shows they all support him , just that they feel the image of the fans backing the manager is important.

In regards to Oles performance yesterday. He played a strong team and lost at home against a west ham B team. Tin pot trophy or not that is not going to breed confidence.

That's two embarrassing cup losses already. The next check point will be if he makes it out of the CL group. If he doesn't, those who think the forum is too negative now might need to take a sabbatical.

That was a strong second team for West Ham though, gone are the days PL sides roll over and accept a defeat in the LC there’s that much money in the PL nowadays.

Sure but just look at the prices and wages of our starting 11 compared to theirs. If we started Elanga, Hannibal, Shoretire etc this loss would be a lot more palatable.

How many of those were won during the 90s, and how many were won during the 00s and 10s? There lies your answer.
5 in the nineties, 4 in the 00s.

During those three years we couldn’t win the league (2004, 2005, 2006), we won both the cups (FA in 2004, and League Cup in 2006).

The domestic cups were not beneath Fergie (or Mourinho, or Pep). They would only boost Ole’s ego though (in his own words), so who cares for them now.

And I agree, they do see more than us everyday, but then why is Solskajer standing on the touchline screaming "Anto, movement!"? As I said previously, Martial's happiness is irrelevant at this point if Solskjaer want's to keep his job. Playing him and him putting in performances like that every time doesn't exactly reward Solskjaer's loyalty in him does it? At this point Martial might as well be banging nails into Ole's coffin.

If we started the kids we would get thrashed though, it’s not nice we lost but these players haven’t got much game time either and aren’t sharp enough in front of goal just.

I think you're downplaying how hard it is to win the CL over the course of a season. It's not like a three week tournament where decent teams can fancy themselves against one of the big boys based on current form or a well planned strategy in a short period. The CL is harder to win the world cup IMO. Winning it is just as good as winning the PL
Disagree

Random teams win all the time.

Porto
Pool 05
Madrid when they couldn't get near their own league
Chelsea under Di Matteo
Chelsea last year

If you win the league you are clearly the best. You can go on a bit of a run and win the CL. It's still a cup at the end of the day.

He doesn't want to hear that sort of rational stuff. He's got an agenda to set god damn you

I don't think we would get thrashed. City started a back five full of kids and still won comfortably. We could have easily replaced Lingard or Matas production yesterday just to name a couple players .

It was nowhere as bad as this and the context was completely different.

Jose at the end of his tenure was burning down the house because of his lovers spat with Ed and there were almost daily news stories of dressing room unrest, bust ups and mutinies and what not. Judging by the mood of this place one should think we were lingering in midtable with a very bleak outlook for the future. Which it is not

We got knocked out of the Micky Mouse cup after playing a second string team. Who cares? Between the league, CL and even FA cup, the Carabao cup (or whatever the feck its called now) is just a distraction
Yes different times but still the same arguments. And it's not important for united bit important for the squad/youth.

Say he gets 2nd and 5 points behind. No trophies.

The unhappy fans continue to be unhappy.

Glazers do nothing.

What do they choose to do next? Do the fans go boo as their next step?

I've said it after the first game of the season ... and I stand by it after the most recent two. Well, to be honest, last night doesn't really bother me, I haven't cared about that competition in years.

But he's just making the same mistakes, time after time. McFred is just not a combo that should be played very often, yet it's trotted out, if they're available, in the majority of our matches. He's done an excellent job to this point, but he's just not a ballsy enough manager to win things, big things, in my opinion. Not in this day and age. His decision making after going down to 10 men showed a lot last week in the CL to be honest.

Woke up this morning and while I still don't think Ole did that much wrong in the individual game apart from starting Mata.

He just isn't the man to take us forward. He doesn't inspire confidence in either his tactics, team selection, in game management or press conferences.

We have finally started to build a top quality squad and just fear we will waste it with Ole in charge.

I'm already frustrated that next season we probably won't have Pogba, Martial, Donny, Cavani or Matic all of which won't be equally replaced. This season was our opportunity to really kick on and I just really we will plan along as usual, securing top 4 but not doing much else.

The decline in expectation at the club is staggering. If we win nothing it will be 4 years without silverware. That HAS to be unacceptable regardless of how 'close' we are to the top.

Lingard scored a rocket in the last game and probably the best player in the first half, and Mata needs to play or what’s the point of even paying him a wage.

Lingard played well but as the game wore on, he was trying increasingly random shit, probably due to the lack of movement in front of him. Mata on the other hand I don't understand.

He's signed a contract with a huge pay decrease as he's going into coaching at the club at the end of the season. He doesn't need to play, the reality is, this was probably going to be his only game of the season anyway. He might get another 45 minutes at some point around Christmas but he didn't need the game time, it's not like he's going to come off the bench every week. What's the point in trying to get him fit?

He played well as it happened and I like him but where's the forward thinking in playing him this match? I just don't get it.

He really does channel his inner Moyes in some of these post match interviews.

My problem is that we always tend to be a bit rubbish whenever we play anything other than our very best team and players. When we do play our best side we are usually quite reliant on players like Bruno and now Ronaldo to win it through individual brilliance rather than an actual coherent style of play. And that's the big issue, there is no style of play and it shows big time when we play our 2nd team and don't have those match winners to bail us out. A great manager and coaching staff should have engrained a proper style of play throughout the squad so that players can shuffle in and out and still play a good style of football. Klopp and Pep are masters of it. It's further proof that we aren't a well coached side under Ole, we're simply a team of really strong individuals who are man managed well and have a lot of belief.

It's a tired argument now but he really needs a strong coaching staff behind him to implement that better style of play and give us some actual identity if he wants to succeed here. His man management is clearly excellent but it's not enough to be consistent throughout a packed season and we're already seeing that.

Apart from starting Martial and keeping him on the field (admittedly both mistakes), I don't think he did a lot wrong yesterday. He correctly rotated, but two of his back-ups were directly at fault for the goal - particularly Telles. After that we dominated for large parts, created many half chances, were cheated out of a penalty, and Greenwood probably should have scored. You can't hold Ole directly responsible for every single thing that happens on the pitch.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize Ole, but losing that game yesterday is not at the top of the list. We played much better than against Wolves for example - a game we won.

Mata should not have been given a new contract. That is obvious to most. Anyways coulda shoulda woulda . We played a much stronger team than west ham, didn't start any kids and got knocked out of the one trophy we could play them in.

We’ve spent over a billion since Fergie left so to hear him say ‘we had a go’ against West Ham like we’re Exeter City or something is disappointing bordering on laughable. We’re Man Utd, not some plucky underdogs along for the ride.

I’m firmly Ole-in but do think someone needs to have a word with him about some of his interviews.

Has Ole been shouting anything to Martial yesterday? You can't use that one if you're referring to a game almost an year ago.

He also shouted at Lingard against City before subbing him off and now Lingard is playing very well.

That's the point of addressing shortcomings, expecting improvements.

There is no forward thinking and I said I wasn’t happy he signed a new contract in another thread but the fact of the matter is if you’re going to pay someone £5m a year or whatever then he has to play.

He did hit the crossbar in the first half and was probably our best effort.

Well yeah, he was also screaming the same thing at him in the Newcastle game the other week, to which he completely ignored the instructions. Lingard got subbed off for that performance and was sent to West Ham for 6 months. Martial needs the same treatment because he isn't improving at United.

Prices and wages don't scale accurately with skill. This is genuinely one of the biggest fallacies of football discussions.

It does scale accurately with results though. There is 30 plus years of data that backs that up.

We have to play players into form also so this was an ideal game for many of the players that started.

Sure, I agree with that. Like I said many times it was a strong line up , strong enough to get the win even if we replaced a couple players with the likes of Elanga/ Hannibal.

I agree to an extent, but more games will not give Mata and Matic their legs back. Both still have intelligent brains but tire and where younger players games build their fitness. These two it has the opposite effect. They are getting older and you cannot stop that.

We do, but you don't have to play them all at once. DVB could have played last weekend, Bailly could have come on as a sub when we were beating Newcastle, Telles could have got a half next weekend. There's no need to start them all in the same game, it's fecking bizarre.

Mata probably the exception because he’s going to be a coach or something and it’s probably more commercial that for football reasons I give you that. I’m actually not sure why we even keep Mata as he’s been shot for a couple of seasons but I disagree with Matic I think he still has a role to play and I 100% would have played him last night.
