I don't want to see McFred as the next person, but what other options do we have? Pogba is injured, Bruno has been playing like hot trash and Matic probably can't do more than one game a week, and I imagine is being rested for Chelsea anyway.

McFred and Maguire starting is pretty gross. Bruno dropped? Probably not a good idea but i understand that his form has been not great so maybe give VDB a shot. I'm not expecting us to make many chances though as Bruno and Pogba are our main creators. Let's see but i'm expecting an absolute slog against the footballing vampire..

Edit: didnt even mention Martial. WTF?
I would have put Sancho on the left and Greenwood on the right.
Greenwood out for Covid. Rashford got pulled at halftime against Watford. Not sure how much of that was Ole desperate to make a change at halftime or if he was carrying some sort of injury illness.

It doesnt matter you need a cohesive and balanced unit. Bruno doesn't fit. McTominay will be better in a 4-3-3.
No, he won't. Matic is better player than him and should start ahead of him. Hell no one can convince me that even starting Lingard or Mata as attacking midfelder with Donny as holding is better than starting Mctomminay who isn't even premierleague level this year.

Have people even watched Mctomminay this year?

Don't mind team although would have had Donny next to Fred and Bruno playing.

Bruno been bad but still our best and most creative player.

He can't play more than 60 minutes a week.

McTominay is my least favorite player in the squad but our lack of options leaves Carrick with no other choice.

Sancho and Donny have looked good together.

The team has had an identity crisis all season of the players used to a more possession based system (like the above, maybe Martial and Cavani) vs the more direct styles of Bruno, Rashford and Greenwood. I quite like the team, although I am not a fan of Fred or Martial, but we have no decent options to replace the former whilst the latter probably deserves some sort of chance.

I'm amazed that he's starting. Clearly wasn't fit vs Watford and was utterly abysmal.

Yeah we simply don't. For all the talk of Ole building this richly talented side our midfield is a damn state. Why Herrera was let go to PSG is fecking baffling too.

10/11, I figured we'd only see one of Mcturd but Bruno has been dropped for Van de Beek instead.

This is what I would like to see. Only hope is that Mactominay just sits deep to help thr CB's while Fred and VDB do all the pressing.

I believe these 4 will be mainly resposible for defending and cutting opposition's passing lines. Would have preferred Bailly over Maguire, if the former was a little less rush. Unfortunately, he is not. Harry on the pitch means playing 20-25 meters deeper.
That is exactly the problem. How good have they been at “defending” lately?

That seemed to be the fault of the board room, Ole wanted him to stay but Woodward took ages to start contract talks and in the end sent it by post.

Losing top spot in the lineup league, but I don't care cuz Bruno needed to be dropped, and i'm forever Martial FC
Am I the only one on here who thinks that Martial has been mostly rubbish for UTD for quite a long time now?

On paper those 4 changes does not make United stronger but its about attitude and application of the players.

If some sort of a response is got United may get a result tonight, something like a 2-2 however play like they did against Watford and it will be another embarrassing defeat.

He is our main creative force, but he'll no doubt come on and create if needed. Time to see what others can do.

Martial doesn't exist to me anymore, honestly I don't know what cupboard Carrick found him in. If he can turn his career around her I'll be gobsmacked.
Yeah I think he's thinking that Bruno could have more impact coming off the bench against tired legs.

On the bolded I totally agree. I find it amazing he's still considered for any time on the pitch.

Curios as to whether Martial plays on the left or up front. And the positioning of Donny, I don't think he should play as a 10.

Hopefully McFred perform better, the both of them have been terrible this season. Less words wasted on the defence the better.

No issues with team, ideally Maguire and Mctominay wouldn’t be starting but Maguire was never going to be dropped and there isn’t really anyone else to play instead of Mctominay as Matic wasn’t going to start another game.

If Ole really wanted him he'd be here. Matic is still somehow here despite being finished a couple of years ago. Mata too.

The change in line up has given fans some hope that something might be different. But in all honesty, we're up against a very organized team who have a very good manager, unfortunately I can see only 1 result here :(

Van de Beek instead of Bruno strengthens the midfield. I don't mind this either, think it is the right decision as Bruno usually leaves Manfred alone and then horrible things happen.

Puts more pressure on Sancho to replace the creativity up front, but the way he plyed together with VDB gives a bit of hope that this might work.

Never has a game been so certain to end 4-0 to United. It's absolutely nailed on.

    Come on United!

Nice to see Carrick take the out of form players out. I'm guessing that they might even have been carrying injuries they have been that bad.

I think with Sancho and Donny playing we might see a bit more security in possession. Hopefully that relieves the pressure...I actually think dropping Fernandes was the right call but would have benched Ronaldo too and started with Rashford. Bring Ronny on fresh when we need him. It’s would be a kick in the teeth for Ole if we show up and smash these.

    Same old midfield.

Big cal to drop Bruno. I'd have kept him and slide DVB back one

Fred next to VDB is good. McTominay starting less so. Martial has scored 4 goals in all comps this calendar year, no idea why he's starting. Telles coming in is deserved though.

What happens if we lose tonight and Atalanta win? It goes into the final group game with Villarreal on 10 points, Atalanta on 8. They both play each other, if Atalanta win and we win, it'd end up with Villarreal and us on 10 points, Atalanta on 11. Who would go through between us and Villarreal?

Yep. You are absolutely the only one on this forum with that viewpoint. Absolute lone wolf. Really sticking your neck out on the line with that one.

In that case the damage was done before Ole. Jose was not playing him and we didn't approach him over a new deal until he was already in the last year of his contract. Ole began picking him once he came in but he had already understandably decided to go after not playing and the fact that PSG offered him 300k a week made it an easy decision.
