if we keep feeding sancho we score.

mctominay needs to start giving him a few passes over the top instead of playing square to telles every time

McTom tonight has been our biggest issue tonight, even when he does play positive, the ball is never accurate.

How can players for ManUtd not know to to pass and take a ball in control. I am not expecting flair from everyone. But at this level passing and first touch is a bare minimum.
Any manager will struggle to impart some tactics if his players can’t do those two things

Also, it is very obvious we don’t know how to press as a team. Every time we press, we leave an easy pass open and then get countered

He is awful football player. Simple as that.
He’s very inconsistent. He’s played our best two passes; one for Ronaldo with no foul given and the cross field own for Martial.

However, he’s also been careless and his defensive positioning is suspect.

Basically he looks exactly what his coaches have told us he was; an attacking player who had a growth spurt that they want to convert into a defensive midfielder.

All of his critical flaws are defensive and yet he is meant to be a holding midfielder. If people though of him as Andreas Pereira trying to play central midfield it would be obvious why it’s not working out for him.

We are so hesitant playing out and it leads to conceding chances all the time. We have two holding mids who do not want the ball or know how to move it quickly.

Fred has put a shift in but mctominay.. I don’t see what he brings. Maguire a game closer to being dropped I hope.
To be fair, McTominay has played a couple of good through balls. On the other hand he's absolutely mastered the art of finding the exact position where he either can't be passed to or he blocks a pass to another player. An amazing talent.

Sancho has been bright IMO. Shit performance as usual though. Van de Beek isn't a 10. Play him CM or don't play him at all.

Agreed, I really don't understand the way we have often used him. It's almost like he plays as a split striker. His attributes seem suited to playing deeper and that would benefit the team too

Dull stuff, but what can you expect when we've had virtually no time to figure out to play as a team after Ole.

I'll take this scoreline right now.

I thought that was a better team performance than I have seen in a while. Utd have not given any guilt edged chances away. Utd are still losing the ball in their own half alot, however, Villareal have an excellent press. Donny is good at retaining posession and Sancho looks dangerous.

A 0-0 would be a good result. The most important thing tonight is a clean sheet.

Carrick appears to be trying to implement the hybrid 4-4-2/4-3-3 Fergie played 07-09.

This is McTominay's 147th appearance for this club. Let that sink in. He's just as useless, if not worse, than when he first broke into the team.

No point in criticising them tonight
Football is all about confidence and the team has zero confidence at the moment
Hope we can somehow nick a goal and start from there

Not sure what fans were expecting, we're not all of a sudden going to play like klopps Liverpool.

Sensible, measured and some structure. Decent 1st half all things considering. Let's see if Carrick decides to go for it 2nd half

Martial off for Rashford, who for all his faults actually gives a shit. McTominay has been his usual horrible self, so bring on Matic.

We can walk out of this with a draw, but a defeat here fukks us.

Him and Maguire being so incredibly slow on the ball is really hurting us.
Maguire gets the ball and holds it just long enough till telles gets closed down before he eventually releases it to him. He just doesnt think fast enough on the ball.

Hope Carrick makes at least one sub at HT.

Fred out for Lingard, bring back Donny to the midfield. Get Sancho closer to the midfield.

Sancho VDB passing could get us into a good position.
    Jesse could draw them away.

whoever takes over at manager should not sign the contract unless they are guaranteed they can sign a DM in January.

By no means perfect but we've looked a bit better as a unit. We've restricted Villareal to less chances than we have been used to for the majority of this season.

Havent been greeat going forward and we have struggled to have long spells with the ball but we've got players who can score at anytime.

I personally think we need to feed Sancho a lot more in the second half. He's looked lively tonight and if something is going to happen, it'll most likely be from him.

What part of him looks like an attacking player though? He's not particularly good at passing, not creative at all, and certainly isn't a shooter.
The physical characteristics are what gets him in the team, and if he can't play as a centre mid he shouldn't even be here.

Can we get Poch by the weekend? :nervous: This team is going to be stumbling around between matches until that change is made.

That's nonsense, Rashford is lazy and can't hold on to the ball for shit.

No he hasn’t, he played one decent one to Ronaldo - he was fouled. The switch to Martial was over hit - shit pass.

He doesn’t want the ball, he shirks responsibility. The exact opposite of what a midfielder should be.

Probably the first 70% of that half they looked in cruise control. They didn't have anyone to get them in front and then we grew into the game... we should beat these. But at the same time we play like we're several tiers below than we actually are. No belief.

Lads, we’ve conceded 19 goals in the last 7 games, I think some of you need to lower your expectations of what could realistically happen in the space of 24 hours.

He’s hardly going to be able to get a cohesive press organised, at least they are trying to defend positions on the pitch as a team and it has worked, with Villarreal taking ages to figure out how to play it forward on occasions.
    Good post.
