Squad rotation has helped. Hopefully we keep players fresh and make more changes for next game.

Would have loved to see Greenwood go up top for Cavani around the 60th minute with Amad coming on.

    Shame he is exiled.
Think he linked up with Ivory Coast for AFCON? Bailly was also, but recalled for this game I believe.

Agree with your general point though, the kid should get a lot more minutes.

Sooo, what happened to the high press idea? Ditched after one half?

Ok, it's 3-1 but we never have control of a game. Need the next goal.

Bit of a strange performance and don't see any of the RR principles yet bar the odd flash.
I think you can see them getting back into shape quicker and using the attacking 10's much better. It's definitely still disjointed and we haven't pressed like crazy but a bit more hopeful than Newcastle

This is just like a good game under Ole. I don't see a consistent style of play or even an attempt at one. Luckily we got a few goals.

Pretty rare type of finish to be fair.

Dwight McNeill for that Sancho OG, my goodness, just jogging while Sancho made the effort to get around Shaw, diabolical defensive intensity there, he had a 5 yard start on Jadon and showed no interest in doing anything.

Nice footballer, but that is one of the reasons he is at Burnley.
I don’t usually associate lack of effort with Burnley.

ronaldo is like a trusty old golden retriever. he is the apple of your eye. he used to go everywhere with you but the years have caught up with him. where he used to bound alongside you on a walk, he now spends most of his time laying on the rug in front of the fire, farting himself awake and soiling the floor whenever the doorbell startles him. just as you think his time is done and you start to load the shotgun, he brings his favourite toy up to you and places it in your lap and waits for a head stroke. you wipe a tear from your eye as you remove the cartridges for another day.

    Come on :lol::lol::lol:..

I know this funny .. but don't do it again, this made me feel sad for the old dog

We need to break our set piece duck. We have Ronaldo and Cavani. Two of the best headers of the ball!

Finally an actually entertaining half and relatively stress free. Shane about the Burnley goal but other than that, thoroughly enjoyable.

What is Martinez talking about? Waxing lyrical about Burnley and slagging us off?

This shape suits Sancho and Greenwood better than Bruno, they’re more comfortable shifting central and wide.
Yeah, carrying the ball is not Bruno's game at all, he lives for those central pockets whereas Sancho and Greenwood love the inside forward sorts of positions

Is that a known-thing/phrase? Never heard of it before!
Just means we aren't playing high up.

Think its good for us because it means ronaldo and cavani don't have to press too high, whilst maguire doesn't have his pace exposed too much.

The difference between this and Ole last season is the emphasis on directness and using our flanks much more. We aren't playing through the middle. In addition, the opposition still has to worry about two threats up front.

I hope we don't rush Bruno back into the side next game. The Sancho-Greenwood pairing in the two no 10s seems to be working well for us.

Burnley get the next goal and it’s squeaky bum time with this teams mentality

I agree. It’s not like we caught fire and will win the league. We’re sloppy. But I’ll enjoy the lead/win

We might not be fully playing like people expected under RR but I'm perplexed that people can't see any difference. Our passing and pressing is certainly different it just isn't great (hopefully that will come).

Just glad we won't have the "should we sign McNeil" nonsense threads we've had after a couple of good 20mins spells against us in other games!

As i said; Baily created a chance. That is situation one. He fecked up. That is why he is our 4th choice. End of that story.
THEN comes situation number two. Maguire (our first choice, 80 mil worth defender and captain) one on one with attacker. I don't know about you but i expect from first choice defender to stop attacker in that situation. He didn't take the ball, he didn't block the shot and he didn't push Lennon wide. That is bad defending
He was pushing him wide, Lennon took the shot and it was a great finish, those goals happen all the time and against good defenders, you’d like to get the block but sometimes it’s just a good finish.

Good performance. Our defensive fragility through the middle remains, but we've played some nice stuff. McT and Shaw are standouts. For all of McT's shortcomings, he is one of our most reliable shooters from outside of the box. He has also used his strength well in this half.

Ronaldo should be doing better. Cavani hasn't really had a chance. I'd like to see Bruno deployed as a strike partner for one of the two veterans as I think Sancho and Greenwood should be first choice for the AM positions based on their ability to keep possession. Sancho and Shaw linking up has been a highlight and I wish we would use that more instead of hoofing it from goal kicks. But it is understandable as Burnley were copying every other team's playbook and pressing high so we've nullified that, even at the expense of losing possession higher up.

Another goal should kill this game. Hopefully we get it soon.

If you think AWB has been poor today then there's no reasonable discussion to be had.
To be fair, I'm usually defending AWB against exaggerated vitriol, but at best he's been meh tonight. Sloppy on the ball, and out of position a couple of times early on. Not terrible, but not good either I wouldn't say.

Id like to think Rangnick can vary his tactics. We dont need another manager with rigid philosophy. We've been there seen that done that with LVG.

His positioning was wrong even in playing him wide though. He should have been a few feet in and much tighter. That's why Lennon had the space for that shot.

    Enjoyable half.

But fcuk me have those clowns just being gifting Burnley at route to goal at every opportunity. Maguire has been dreadful.

Fair play to Shaw who has once again magically started to not be a lazy cnut when he knows he's not guaranteed starter. Shame AWB can't react the same way.
