Can’t see Chelsea’s interest being all that credible after Tuchels comments. I wonder if the manager not really on board is harming their bid
You're reading too much into Tuchel's comment and making assumptions that he's not the one behind any club interest in De Jong. He only said the club currently have other priorities, not that he doesn't think midfield needs any improvements.

With two bids already rejected and a third one about to go in later this week it's clear Fofana is the current priority target but assuming he gets Fofana in the bag and Boehly says there's enough funds left to do a deal for De Jong as well, why wouldn't Tuchel be on board with it?

A forward might also be needed at Chelsea if Werner and Hudson-Odoi leave but like you lot must have noticed with chasing the likes of Arnautovic it's really slim pickings out there at the moment so I'd guess any forward signing would likely be a cheap one that wouldn't eat too much into the transfer funds.

He also recently said you don't want to be playing 2-7-1

Surely Frenkie and his agent can't be happy that the fact that their current contract might have been negotiated illegally is now public knowledge? Must be absolutely fuming at Barcelona if they have leaked it

Thats such a non update. I'm fed up of this saga, we've looked like idiots this entire summer
It could have been worse, you could have over 2000 posts in the thread

£400m+ where did you get that from?
They've spent over £150m on Sterling, Koulibaly, Cucurella, Chukwuemeka and Slonina already, haven't sold anyone for any significant amount of money and if reports are correct they want to spend £180m on FDJ and Fofana. That's more than £330m just there. Not unthinkable that a striker would push the total close to - or even over - £400m at all.

So which is which? Because a better reporter is saying he's not made a decision and doesn't have a preference yet when Mitten is saying he'd prefer Chelsea
Mitten also said that Utd are still being assured a deal can be done
It's a common tactic. Write about every possible scenario so when one of them happens (obviously), the writer is "right".

Well for one, Chelsea need a striker, so after Fofana, they have another position thats priority.

I think the Chelsea interest is real, why wouldn't it be? Chelsea want everyone this summer. They're like a kid in a candy store... a kid thats just won the lottery and can afford anything in there. Barca know this and they're using that info to get United to pay his deferred wages by saying Chelsea are ready to do so. It's like "If you don't do it... Chelsea will!"

Sesko is being quoted circa £50m and Chelski were also strongly linked with Denzil Dumfries at £30m....

Considering this would give you an additional man on the pitch, I'd say you absolutely want to be playing that formation if you can get away with it.

Ha edited it was 2-7-1 not 2-7-2

£60m Sterling, £72m Cucerella, £40m Koulibaly. Add that to the £200m above and it’s close to £400m.
I appreciate the point being made here, but perhaps it can be made without adding tens of millions to every transfer?

Bit troubling that they apparently informed him about this three weeks ago. It's not a new development and he still doesn't seem to want out
If I understand it correctly the issue with Bartomeu offer is the way the deal was structured and De Jong's future earnings. Now from De Jong's standpoint, there is a bigger issue, he wants the money that he was owed based on the contract signed in 2019 not the 2021 contract, so Barcelona are full of it, he simply wants the money that was owed between 2019 and 2022, not the prohibitive amounts that will be owed after 2022.

I'll take Rabiot over FDJ any day, if the report is true.

The man has no self respect if he still wants to stay in Barcelona.

If this guy stays at Barcelona after this he has to be a weirdo. Being threatened with legal action/bullied into taking a pay cut, you know. Mad

And doesn't he want to go to Chelsea? You'd think this deal would have happened
Its also been said we're ready to do what Ornstein said, once we get any sort of hint that FdJ will leave Barca. So if we havent, it lends even more weight to the theory that he just isnt going to move

It's all well and good being ambitious, but when you have so many quality players and limited positions, you're going to struggle to keep them happy and it's going to go south very quickly
Well maybe they will offload some of their players. They might not be short of options in midfield but FdJ is a good option for them.

Yeah a club spending £400m is definitely the time to have a pop at the Glazers
Is there any specific or predetermined time to have a pop at Glazers? I have not been informed about it.

This whole thing is an absolute fecking mess. Should’ve never got involved with Barcelona in the first place, a shambles of a club and we’re not much better.
Better? I'd say we're worse. Barca are only in the financial trouble they are due to their want to stay competitive (however ill advised some of the decisions have been) our owners don't give a feck about that as long as they're making money

Fofana is by far and away the priority for us right now. I think that’s all Tuchel was alluding to with his comments on Saturday.

Would we still be pursuing this if we have signed Rabiot?

The obvious answer is yes but then again we are run (like a shit show) by the Glazers so who knows.

Chelsea are willing to pay them, so if they're willing to pay them, he'd surely come? Something doesn't add up here at all. I still don't think Chelseas interest is as solid as the media make out to be. I think Barca are HUGELY exaggerating it

He's not gonna come here anyway why bother. No sane footballer would come to United right now if they cared for their careers.

Mitten has also said more than a few times that de Jong prefers London over Manchester. Add in rich and new ambitious chelsea owner and I’m perplexed as to why so many believe that this move will still happen.

it's going to be a hell of a 24 hours when the first report shows him leaving Barca with his bags, and the second report shows him turning up at Stamford Bridge with his agent.

Ornstein says that he has no preferece on where he wants to go.

So who do we believe?

How would returning to the previous contract work anyway? Surely it's the contract where he was on more money and which they now owe him wages for, so exactly the position they're currently in with him.
You have to give them credit for both trying to meet their objectives and the creative ways they are applying them. From the shady business agreements to the public pronouncement of love for Frenkie and yet wanting him to leave to the range of clubs who are interested in buying him despite having agreed with United and more.

True that. Our owners sat and watched that shit show yesterday and decided to give ETH Rabiot and Arnautovic as reinforcements. A real show of ambition from the club right there.:houllier:

My guess is, despite all the reports suggesting he'd prefer Chelsea , he still much prefers staying at Barca, so unless Chelsea get an indication from De Jong that he would gladly leave Barca and sign for us, Chelsea won't make an official move.

I don't use this word often because of it's undertones, but man De Jong looks like a **** for wanting to stay at that club after this latest attempt to move him.
