This was a Herculean effort on their part. And assuming there are no odd glitches at the end… getting this across was extremely impressive.
Correct. Spending all month negotiating to buy a player with a release clause for millions more than that clause. Genius.

Man United pay FAR higher wages than Chelsea do.
You cant compare the biggest club in England and one of the biggest clubs in the world to Chelsea. Comon mate I know you are a Chelsea fan but you have to be realistic.

Chelsea will have spent pretty much the same amount of money on players in 6 months than: Southampton FC, Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth, Everton FC, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leicester City combined.
I was talking about the amount spent per player. They managed to get a lot of players who would go straight into their first team. The average first team player for a team aiming to win trophies would cost what they spent. They are not inflating the market any more than it already is.

Chelsea has the money and wants to win. I won’t begrudge them for acting on their ambition.

If they were spending £130m - £150m+ on players and blowing up the market, I’d agree that it was distasteful.

If spending 600m in one season isn't blowing up the market I'm not sure what is

Come on let’s not fib now. You have at least 3 players on or above the 300k per week mark.. and a huge squad.
The guys who are moaning about our salaries seem to think we've put the guys we've just signed to 8 year contracts on £400k a week. Mudryk's salary for the entirety of his 8 year contract will be just a little bit more than the 2 year salary you splashed out on Alexis Sanchez.

What’s the relevance with Sanchez? Did I miss something?

I know Sanchez was a free transfer and didn’t cost up to £88m so was always going to be on bigger money. Don’t see the comparison.

We spent an estimated 35 million on Sanchez all in. 97k a week for 8.5 years is 42.5 Million. That's without the transfer fee of course

He was a free transfer which is why he was on huge wages.

I bet Thiago Silva isn't on a cheap weekly wage for the same reason.

Seriously, how do you come to a rival forum and argue against a blatant truth and expect people to have a healthy discussion? You fecking spent 600m

They're doing this by finding a loop hole in FFP regulations by offering horrendously long contracts.

It's honestly crazy that a club can spend 600m in one season, trying to defend their spending is just madness. When one club is spending the same amount as 9 others in the same league then something is fecked up.

The other part of this is why are these players agreeing to long contracts? They are locked into these low wages.
Because in reality it means nothing. If it doesn’t work then they have security for long time and if they are any good they will force the club to either pay more or sell them

Do you believe there aren't clauses in those contracts where the wage won't increase?

I am surprised players are agreeing to such long contracts for salaries which are not even the biggest around right now, let alone in 8 years time. Surely there must be clauses to have a fixed increase or review of their salaries after some years into the contract, else it's just dumb considering the club has spent massively to get them.

I think I made a well reasoned argument. But envy is an emotion that clouds judgement. We are United fans. We should be the last to complain about a club spending 105 million pounds on a player.

You seem to keep fixating on this Fernandez deal only. It's not so much spending 105m on one player, it's the fact it's 600m plus for this season.

There's a 0.5% chance that Mudryk and Fernandez's salaries don't get improved upon over the course of their contracts, assuming they do well. The duration obviously protects Chelsea, but they will want to be paid relative to their peers if they reach the top.

Yet another United fan accusing other United fans of envy and jealousy. It's bizarre.

They've just spent more in 6 months by themselves than any other league outside of England has ever spent in a window :houllier:

The club doesn’t have to budge though. They have zero leverage.
They don't have to, but it's not uncommon for clubs to improve terms as a show of good faith when a player has consistently stepped up. Before long their agents will be getting calls, the players start making noises and the cosmic ballet goes on.

 We've only ever spent more than €200.0m twice and never exceeded €250.0m.

You are not making a well reasoned argument in the slightest.

Really? Because he's dead old?

Koulibaly is on £295k a week?

Oof
Yeah Koulibaly and Sterling are on crazy wages. Silva has been signing 1 year extensions on that same £110k a week ever since we signed him.

Surely Mudryk will have had wage increases across the 8 years put in. He and his agent can't be that dumb

Wait, people actually think Mudryk and Enzo will stay on the same salary for the entirety of their contract?
It was reported with Mudryk and others before him that the salary is heavily incentivised, so yeah they won’t stay on the same salary as they are on initially.
