We have a pretty tight FFP too, so we need to either spend to buy or convince a player swap. Unless Barcelona is interested in something like Lindelöf and Dalot, its not happening.
Yep and that means Chelsea will just sign again.

How, in all that’s holy, will you make 200m in one summer by lowering wages? So many players have already bent over for you by forgoing money, you gonna make them play for free next?
You didn’t even lower the wage bill last year on top of that when you brought so many in.
Ridiculous

Thanks for that. Interesting quotes in there.

Now we have to try ensure that the league recognizes our effort and is flexible with us. If Javier [Tebas] talks about reducing our wage bill by €200m (£177m) from 2020-21 we are on course for that.'
We will try to get the league to relax the rules that make it impossible for us to be competitive with other rivals.
You can see where they are going with it. They are not going to be able to do it and then will ask la Liga to do them a favor

Stop believing your corrupt board, always read between the lines
The Barcelona president did hedge his bets slightly when he added: 'It is not strictly necessary to sell a top player this summer but the market always opens possibilities. It depends on the will of each player. But we are not obliged to sell because we think there are other solutions.'

Edit post above as well

Laporta will ask to make the FFP more flexible and the league will say no. Case closed.

Barcelona can spend 40% of what they reduce in wage bill. And as I have been saying for a whole year, Barcelona will mainly sign players free, Abde and Nico González will return and the money saved from the FFP will go to RB as it is being said.

Just a thought, but if Frenkies currently one of the highest earners there then surely Barcelona will be looking to sell this summer.

they have a lot of dead wood to shift before they get to the likes of dejong; they could easily shift kessie, aubamayang, alba, roberto, raphina without too much stress.

You wouldn't put it past Chelsea to give them 15 million again for a player they already have to be fair.

Out of those players, I think only Raphina has good value and possibly Kessie to a lesser extent.

They were also looking to sell last summer and even accepted our bid. The issue was never Barca, but rather Frenkie himself. The guy was adamant on staying there.

Barca have been told they can't sign anyone this summer without major sales.....United will or should finish top 4 for CL next year.....Casemiro is here as is EtH.

Nothing but positives for why he would or should join us but it really comes down to options for EtH and priority signings

I dont know why we keep coming back to this thread. He isn't leaving Barca or his missus isn't leaving Spain. Period.

Try for someone else from that group.

I don’t know if he had to stay to take that fight or he could have left and let his lawyers fight for him in court
There's no guarantee he would have gotten the money in court, and if the contract change was just altering salaries he likely would not have gotten any of it.

In any case, he got everything he wanted. The people trying to force him out were the clubs bean counters and executives while Xavi and the rest of the football operations people are very happy to have him, so it's not likely to be affecting his day to day interactions. He's still living in Barcelona, starting almost every match and receiving all of his wages in full. The idea that he's somehow lost or looks weak as a result of this is laughable.

Willing to bet that he'll take a massive pay cut and stay at Barcelona over getting more money and moving to United. Who's feeling lucky?

Ah shite I forgot about them. You just know they'll be in for him if he became available.
Luckily for us all the Chelsea jurnos made it clear that they know for a fact that there is zero chance he'd ever join a club that isn't in the champions league.

I realize that Mark Goldbridge (not his real name, btw) keeps harping on Frenkie De Jong coming to OT, but it aint gonna happen. Don't get me wrong...he would slot right in co-manage with Casemiro and Bruno the destruction of every other midfield in the PL, if not the planet, but he's making a fortune in Barcelona, plays for a club which (corruptly) strolls through its domestic league, enjoys -- and I just googled this to be sure -- Barcelona gets 300 sunny days annually (Manchester enjoys only 1,415 HOURS) of sunshine -- and we all know about his WAG, who has him pussy-whipped, which of course is perfectly understandable considering her physical attributes. I suspect most of us would take our marching orders from her as well.

The chance of him leaving will be much higher if Barca dont win La Liga

Sure he’d be a perfect fit but has Frenkie ever expressed an interest in joining us? This whole pursuit feels like a bit of a waste of time if the odds are so high. It would be nice to think players would aspire to sign for us rather than having to chase them.

EtH and FdJ have a relationship. I'm sure they talk to each other. If FdJ had ever said "Forget it Erik, never gonna happen", then EtH wouldn't still be chasing him.

Because that means they're not as bad as people think they are and he can still win a few titles here and there with Barca, in a much less competitive league
Are you aware of La Liga this season?

There not not winning it.

Might be that if they win the league he'd feel he'd be leaving on a high.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Barca tried to get him to take a paycut last season during the time they were also trying to get him to move, and when neither looked like it was going to happen they started threatening to start legal action. He stood his ground then and stayed there on his current contract, so I can't see anything changing now. Maybe a small paycut, but there's nothing to indicate that he'll let Barca screw him over.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me and he (didnt even fool us, we keep fooling ourselves all along).

Why do that to ourselves again. Is there just him that can make us compete again not any other Midfielders? Don't belittle ourselves like that. He didn't want to come last year, there's nothing suggest he is this year, he's happy, his family is happy. Lets go do the scouting and find players that can help us and want to play for us like last group that came. That's what will make us better and compete, we need more of the Licha, Antony, Case that fight or see the opportunity to make us great again and want to be part of that. That is the character that United need now and future.

I wonder if the day will ever come where world class players at the top of their careers will move from Real/Barca to a premier league club or if it is ultimately only going the opposite way.
I can see many reasons why you would choose Spain over England and La Liga over the Premier League. But if you want to play at the highest level and not only enjoy the sun and the easy money then there is no doubt that England is the place to be.

Happened with Serie A , which lost its lustre in relation to PL (over wages and relative European success) although Italian players themselves are still inordinately hard to entice away from Italy, even by top PL clubs and when their Italian equivalents are in the doldrums, compared with rising Spanish stars at Spanish clubs, for instance...

Suspect it would take Barcelona being allowed to self-combust financially rather than being de facto TBTF and allowed to indulge in accounting magic for this to happen any time soon though. Madrid are even more of a regional/state 'jewel' and when the President's fortune isn't enough, would be bailed out of any financial issues - even if Spain's economy completely cratered - with another training ground purchase if needs be. The only way things might also change slightly in the short-medium term is if United become a debt-free CL powerhouse And Madrid also fail to fully replace the Kroos/Modric/Benzema axis ( the two French youngsters are very good indeed, but probably don't exert quite the same level of midfield control) and start falling behind in the CL

Say whatever you want but I respect the guy for not leaving the club he supports even though the club shit on him with president shitting on him in public.

If a caftard gets to play for United wouldn't you do the same?

Can someone enlighten me as to what would be different this summer?

I understand that the head of la liga has said that Barcelona need to sell. I understand that Barcelona might want to sell a high earner like De Jong. I also understand that Ten Hag would likely want him here.

What I don’t get is what’s changed - he wouldn’t leave last summer as he was owed something like 17m by their board. Which is fair enough, but I’m assuming that money is tied up in the remainder of his contract, so we’d still be asking him to waive that money by leaving? Which it seems like he’s not keen to do. So where’s the optimism coming from?

Whatever people think about how/why he turned us down and if he's worth the hassle it's clear Ten Hag still wants him and there will be a round 2 of this saga

Feck off if that's true he isn't even that good. Everytime I've seen him play he's been underwhelming. Opposite of a big game player.

If it’s between FDJ and Bellingham then surely it’s Bellingham we go all out for. He’s a massive talent and very young. Can’t let him join Liverpool/city.

Was one of the best players on the pitch against Madrid this week.
