If we lose Martial who should we buy as a backup striker?

Supports
Santiago Wanderers
LW: Rashford, Garnacho
CF: Hojlund, Greenwood
RW: Antony, Sancho, Pellistri

Would it really be necessary? Unless it's a name big enough to reconfigure the entire squad.

If we're planning on bringing "him" back into the squad, then we can safely move on Martial without signing another striker and still be better off. It increasingly looks like this is the plan and the club is willing to deal with the heat and noise from it.

Me. I shoot left foot, right foot. Am quick and 6'0ft. I wouldn't leak team data and I wouldn't go to the press when the manager doesn't drool over me. I will also score goals and burst my gut leading the press. I'm only 25 so 5 years till I'm 30. Anyone with ETH line?

Every summer people think we're selling Martial.

It would be pretty daft to sell a striker in this market from a squad that barely has any goals. We'd get absolutely rinsed trying to buy a replacement.

I think a rotation option is needed even if Martial stays.
I'd say on a loan but Wout wasn't particularly convincing, even if the loanee would have less minutes to carry.
Reckon ten Hag will probably use Rashford or others when needed in the center slot.

Anything is a win. We could lose Martial and not sign another forward and be no worse off because of how much a dank crock Martial has become.

Moussa Dembele on a free, if budget is limited. Alternatively I'd love us to pick up a promising youngster on the cheap somewhere, ala Alvarez / Chicharito.

Someone the likes of Brighton or Porto would usually pick up on the cheap. Who that could be I have no idea, mere mortal as I am.
Dembele has gone to Saudi.

Nah, we’ll definitely need a striker. At least one.
That'll depend on if a certain person comes back I think :( . Although that's a reason why there's no way we will sell him this year as the club will want to judge the reaction.

Be that as it may, the fitness of that hypothetical player is doubtful. I'd bring a 6 months loanee until January still.

The scarcity in the striker market is higher than a parking spot in downtown New York in the rush hour.

Rasmus should be the second striker really, not the other way around. I will get battered for saying this, but that’s how he should be developed and brought into the team. As a back up to an older more experienced striker.
You shouldn't get battered for saying it because you're absolutely right. Expecting Hojlund to step into this team and this league at 20 and be the guy who scores the 20+ goals we desperately need isn't fair or realistic and I fear he's going to suffer under the pressure.

Since we missed out on Kane and Napoli will demand the world for Osimhen, I think we should have been in for Latauro this summer. But that's probably not realistic at this point either.

Unfortunately, the thing that probably makes the most sense now is to play Rashford as the regular 9 and integrate Hojlund into the team bit by bit.

I just remembered Mason Greenwood still exists. Maybe his future will be linked with Martials?

Ivan Toney might be a decent option too.
With the womens football team putting out a statement saying they would be unhappy with greenwood continuing at the club, the chances of him leaving are much higher now. probably be sold abroad.

'Losing' is surely the loosest possible term for Martial leaving.

He's an unreliable crock with a shit attitude. I'd have Erik Nevland back for a year over him ffs.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

Glad we agree.

Not a hope in hell another club is going to buy him , even if we tried to give him away for peanuts.

But we will lose him to injury for large parts of the season and we are still lite up front.

I genuinely think this is a potential 2 year loan before he goes to Saudi and we pay half his wages from PSG, they want him gone, no one paying £75-100m for Neymar and his wages for £750k per week but united might pay £375k per week and £10m per year loan fee we’ll see ?

we should really be buying a recognised starting striker and Hojlund should be the back up, Martial when fit a bonus. People who expect Hojlund to score anything more than 10 goals are going to be dissapointed. Rasmus is a 1 in 3 striker so if he lets say plays around 30 games I think 10 is reasonable for Rasmus, but anything over would be a bonus.

Who should we be targeting then?

Only other experienced striker I can remember us being linked to this summer was Taremi and I don't think he's moved yet.

It was a womens' fan group that put out the statement, not the team. The only reports on the team were that we would be consulting them.

Toney, J. David for example .. and yes even Moukoko or E. Ferguson (to share the load with Rasmus)
Simply have to sell McTominay to fund it,no point in looking at Toney now as can't play until January so how would that work. Unfortunately Brighton have probably pulled down their sales shutters for this summer. I didn't see an awful lot of David in that Lille game tonight
