Yes, but this needs to be compared with Sevilla, who we had just lost to in the CL.

19/20 Europa League Champions
20/21 UCL Ro16 loss to Dortmund
21/22 UCL Group stage exit & lost to West Ham in the EL Ro16
22/23 UCL Group Stage exit & EL winners
23/24 UCL Group Stage exit

Jose was right that United aren't at the standard but neither are/were Sevilla (in the CL). The big difference between us and Sevilla is EL performance.

For me his rant was just a way to mask what were terrible performances and consequently poor results across the two legs. Sevilla haven't had historically impressive performances in the CL that could be used as a viable excuse. Maybe a team like Atletico you could but I think the Jose rant just screams of excuses.
I completely understand but Mourinho was getting criticised for the loss by the media and was defending himself based on prior results. Sevilla had just come from winning 3 Europas in a row.

Also you mention Sevilla's performances since. Since Mourinho's reign we were knocked out by them in the 19/20 Europa league semi finals and again last season in the Europa league quarter finals. Both times Ole and ETH weren't criticised as much as Mourinho was, by fans or by the media.

Head says no but my heart says yes. He’s such a character and he’ll get the squad on side very quickly. He’s pure box office and the league misses his antics but just not sure I want him back.
Wtf

Actually you're right. Re-employing a manager who we had to sack because of how toxic he became, due to him being available because his latest club had to sack him due to how toxic he became, is a very good idea.

Definitely a much better idea than not doing this.
He didn't need sacking.

The fact your saying this
The fact you're saying this too.

Not even funny. :wenger:
Some people think they know it all.

 I'm good, thanks.

I do actually think he'd fit better with our current squad than the squad he had when he was here though. Season's fecked anyway so I'd take him as a caretaker for a few months while we assess.
Be careful what you wish for. If he comes in he could very easily end up getting us into the CL spots and go from interim to main man

I like the guy but he was finished after the way it went at Real and second stint at Chelsea. He's damaged goods.

Just wish he'd followed after Fergie, would have kept us competitive at least for a couple of seasons when he was in his prime.

So what you are saying is that it is inevitable?
TBF as an interim until the end of the season and a guarantee of going no further, give us some fight in the league and go for the fa cup, I'd be ok with it. I'm tired of seeing Ten Hags football and I already see this as a similar situation to Rangnicks end where there the games are glorified friendlies. I'm ok with anyone in as interim to be clear.

His comments after the Sevilla game were so stupid and disrespectful to the club that it's probably burned all bridges, and Scott McTominay has already admitted that it got toxic under him, so if there's any sense at the top they won't touch him.

Probably if he expressed any degree of self awareness or contriteness about those issues I'd have him back. But that clearly will never happen. And we already have a disciplinarian at the club in Ten Hag, why swap out for another more self serving one.

But all that said he was absolutely right about the various players he slated at the club, and it felt at the time like the hierarchy sided with them over him when he went - as he said himself though, how can you tell someone that has 300million followers what to do? How do you deal withal that?

This post screams ignorance, you don't know what you're talking about. Overspending ? on old players ? Roma have a net income of over 100 mill on transfers in the last 2 summer transfer windows and a net income on transfers since the beginning of Mourinho's reign.
What playey they overspent on? Probably the entire squad in summary:

Rome spent €173 mill on wages and €56 mill on player amortisation, €229 mill in total. Only Inter and Juve spent more in Serie A. Despite coming 6th. Historically, Roma has also been outspent by Milan and Napoli, but both teams have cut back. So you would think Roma would improve. But they did not.

In fact, Mourinho have the worst point per game of any coach at Roma since 2013. Behind a fee very averages coaches like di Fransesco, Rudi Garcia and Fonseca. Way behind a guy like Spaletti.

And yes, the average age of the squad have shot up. Roma have gone from having one of the youngest squads in Serie A to one of the oldest.

In other words, Jose Mourinho failed even at a significantly lower level than the PL. Not even with a team where he was expected to win. He failed taking a team that was spending like a top three team from being a top six team to a top three team.

If this is true of Jose, then it was very unprofessional of him. ETH is still in a job FFS

I actually think he’s going to either Barca or Madrid, whichever one Klopp turns down

Same. I like Mourinho, and i've pretty much resigned ourselves to being shit at this point, so at least it'll be entertaining.

Since that video:
19/20 Europa League
20/21 UCL group stage exit
21/22 UCL Ro16 Atletico Madrid loss
22/23 Europa League
23/24 UCL group stage exit

Mourinho stated nothing but facts. I know it's a hard pill to swallow but we've been absolutely rubbish in the ucl for a looong time and the only way to change that is the squad, it isn't good enough. Some of the players Mourinho wanted out because they weren't good enough are still here and guess what ? They aren't good enough. You want a manager to tell you all things are dandy and we have the best squad in the world despite being shit ?
Jose should make a new football heritage video with the latest updates.

Roma had to be his last job at a top club. It’s Saudi or a national team job next.

I'm no Jose fan but with proper backing he still can do it. But I don't want him at United though.

Imagine the new CEO presenting Jose as the man to take us back to top ?

No way. He will go and manage an international team or in Saudi.
He could easily go in at Madrid and do what Ancelotti has done. He was finished as well, languishing in mid table with Everton before Perez took him back.

He’d probably do well with a side that’s already good, I just wouldn’t trust him to rebuild one - never mind one as problematic as ours.

There's only one United!
On 7 August 2016, Mourinho won his first trophy, the FA Community Shield, beating reigning Premier League champions Leicester City 2–1.

Mourinho's United reached the final of the EFL Cup by virtue of a 3–2 aggregate win. Manchester United won 3–2 over Southampton in the EFL Cup Final at Wembley. With the victory, he became the first United manager to win a major trophy in his debut season.

On 24 May 2017, Manchester United won the Europa League courtesy of a 2–0 win over Ajax. This was Mourinho's second major trophy of his first season as Manchester United manager. It also maintained his 100% record of winning every major European Cup final as a manager.

United also lost the 2018 FA Cup Final to Mourinho's former club Chelsea after an Eden Hazard penalty sealed a 1–0 win for the Blues

Just to jog the memory.

Yes, he's an arrogant man but with good backing he's not a bad manager is he?!

I don't quite understand why he gets so much hate around here as he has been the best manager you've had since SAF retired. That being said you guys shouldn't appoint him back at all.
