Liam Delap | £30m release clause?

Teams don't sit back against us anymore.

So we are going to be shit for 10 more years? You obviously did not get what I meant. If we are intending on playing more attacking football next season. He will not be good.

Teams do not park the bus like they used to against any of the teams in the Premier League anymore.
While teams are better coached there are at least ten or twelve teams in the league that will have a go against the big boys.
Do you watch other Premier League games apart from Utd?

He is wasted in the Turkish League then.
If he wants the big bucks he should go to Saudi but if he is elite he would be wasted there as well.
Osimhen moved to Turkey due to issues with Napoli, not because he suddenly became a bad striker. He remains an elite, sought after CF. With 6 goals in 7 Europa League games and 21 in the Turkish league this season, I wouldn't say hes wasted in the Turkish league. As I said before, I still expect him to end up at Chelsea this summer.

That will be good news for us then as it should mean we will get Delap if Chelsea are out of the running for him.

We'll be sat here complaining next year that he doesn't score enough goals. Just because he's cheap doesn't mean we should sign him if he's clearly not good enough. Reminds me of the Zirkzee signing.

knowing what we know about Chelsea, I’m not sure they won’t go and sign 3 strikers this summer

And we remain hopeful Delap can provide the goals we desperately need, both to achieve a +ve goal difference and to challenge for top5 next season.

Is he clearly not good enough? You seem absolutely 100% convinced, which is quite a strong view. What's it based on exactly?

He is only cheap because of the clause.

That is always a possibility but even that will lean to the argument he will not be an automatic starter which makes us a better option.

So looking into xG for the season so far:

Salah 24.74
Haaland 22.89
Isak 19.33
Watkins 17.30
Wissa 16.47
Palmer 14.28
Mateta 14.12
Jackson 13.67
Wood 12.99
Semenyo 12.31
Jimenez 12.09
Havertz 11.76
Mbeumo 11.68
Delap 11.59

I’d say for a 21/22 year old that’s good going for a side that only generates 36.17xG across the season.

Its very good, he scores a big % of Ipswichs goals too.

No one would be paying more than that for him if he had no clause.

He's no worse than Solanke (whose league goals have been 3, 6, 19 and it's 7 so far for this season) and he went for 60 less than a year ago.

Havertz also went for 65 and has played mostly upfront the past 2/3 years with his best season see him only score 13 goals.

If he didn't have a release clause he would be going somewhere for 50 million minimum.

Based on what? Solanke is a better player than him.

If people think Delap and Cunha is going to have us battling for Top five as our main Striker and AM I think a lot of fans need a wake up call.

Cunha yeah, Delap id hope we are going for a second player, although we just need a top finisher that is in the right position

Cunha, Delap and Amad as a front 3 has the potential for 40-50 league goals between them. Is it enough for top 5? I don't know but it's one hell of an improvement on Zirkzee, Garnacho and Hojlund who have scored 11 league goals in total this season.

Don’t have an issue with him as the back up, first off the bench or rotation option, but we should be looking for better to lead the line as the main #9.

What’s the point in comparing Ekitike to Delap? One has a 30 million release clause and one has a club asking 85 million for him. A similar goal tally in a worse league too.

Judging him on stats while playing with league 1 players in the Premier League is harsh. You can see his potential and what he offers at that price just by watching the games.

Him and Cunha immediately make us a much more aggressive and dangerous attack. If we would add Cherki to that, I would be excited about watching us every week again!

People need to be realistic about signings and stop comparing players at widely different valuations, especially after some of the absurd misses in recent years.

Delap is a great investment and could be an absolute steal at that price. We need a LOT, so taking advantage of options like him allows us to do more, while potentially having a player who provides a similar output.

“Liam, the lads from the internet have compared your triangles to Victor Osimhen’s and it’s not good news, pal. Last time they saw colourful shapes like that on a player he ended up at Leeds.”

Suspect that this one will happen fairly quickly now / when the season is over.

40/50 league goals with Amad, Delap and Cunha. Sorry dude but that’s absolutely delusional. Amad is a decent enough player, Is Amad top five quality at this moment in time probably not, he wouldn’t make Villa or newcastles starting line up, Delap not good enough either, Cunha is an option, he’s better than average but let’s not kid ourselves.

Comparing stats with players in far inferior leagues is meaningless.

How is that delusional? Delap and Cunha have 27 already playing for two of the worst teams in the division?

I’d say that’s rather impressive for a relegation club striker.

Absolutely. We need way better striker than him. With striker we just can't afford a miss again.
Btw, many people here are talking about him as backup option. That will never happen.
Guy will not join club where he will be a backup. He will go where he is no1 option.

All of the strikers he’s been compared to in those graphs play for teams at the opposite end of the table. Surely that would have an impact on their stats?
