United Linked With Kaka

Manchester United are being linked with one of the most promising stars to emerge from South American football in recent years, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Kaka, who plays for Brazilian club Sao Paulo, is one of the most highly thought of forwards in Brazil.
And despite having played only 18 minutes for the national side in this summer’s World Cup, the talented 20-year-old is being linked with a host of European clubs.

heres the piece from MEN

BRAZILIAN superstar prodigy Kaka could answer Manchester United's January transfer window dilemma.

The 20-year-old Sao Paulo striker is destined for a move to Europe and is rated the best youngster produced by Brazil since Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

Reds' boss Sir Alex Ferguson has outlined the difficulties in adding to a squad in mid-season.

The high calibre targets that would be on Fergie's wanted list are all ineligible for United Champions League duty.

Bringing in a new hitman for Premiership action alone is also equally problematic. The quality scorer United need is unlikely to pass up European chances in the second stage and knockout phase of the Champions League.

Fergie has indicated that the South American market is one area clubs in Europe will scour to strengthen their pools during the winter transfer window.

The Reds made their only mid-season plunge last season in South America when they landed Argentine club Independiente's Diego Forlan.

Potential

The young Uruguayan has suffered in front of goal since his £7.5m January move to Old Trafford but Kaka is believed to be a potential instant hit.

Kaka played just 18 minutes in Japan as Brazil won the 2002 World Cup but his skill, strength and awareness at setting up and scoring goals has earned him the label as the new superstar in Brazil and a potential successful export to Europe.

TV money, sponsorships and gate receipts are all down in South American football and it means the gap in quality in Brazil and Argentina, for instance, in comparison to the big European leagues is growing bigger with their league football made up of promising youngsters and over-30s.

However, Kaka is believed to be good enough to bridge that gap immediately both at league and Champions League level.

ive seen him a few times a hes looked very impressive

His full name is Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite Kaka. He is really a midfielder but can play as a striker and has already been linked with both Milan clubs during the summer. He was involved in the Brazilian youth team which won the World U/17 Championships in 1999. I think a South American player is our only option although it would be hard for them to adjust to the English game as some do and some don't (Veron hint hint).

He's predominantly a midfielder I think ...

To play in EPL will be really a big step for him ... If he come as a midfield+forward option then well I think that will do ... BUT THINK AGAIN GUYS ... what are we looking now !??!!? some SOLID strike force to beef up the frontline for god sake !! ... so we really need proven quality - and specially someone who HAS already adapted well into Premier League environment ...

We should start building up again with Premier League in sight while ChampionsLeague as the ultimate target - instead of forgeting our bread-&-butter in PL and always talk nuts abt CL ... For me that's really redicilous ( if we finished the league at 5th place - then what does ChampionsLeague mean to us ???  )

I wonder if it has anything to do with our new coach Francisco Filho and I wonder how highly he rates Kaka.

Kaka can certainly add an extra dimension to our game.

That said, as with Forlan, he probably would not make an immediate impact. Same holds for Diego (Santos).

I'm a bit sceptical about signing long-term promises right now. It's not that I think there are any "saviours" we could sign, just that the weight of expectations and responsibility that comes with it is crushing.

I would suggest signing two strikers, one a long-term potential like kaka and one established striker proven in europe.

Then again, from the highlights I have seen of kaka, he is such a tremendous potential that he may not take too long to slot in even though south american don't seem to fit in very well in the english game. Most of them anyway but perhaps this lad may be an exception.

Next year we will need five players( at least). All of these world class players would come on cheap

1 CB Ayala ( free transfer) CB
2 Lb Sorin ( part of Stam's deal)LB/LW
3 LW/RW Castroman ( part of Stam's deal)LW/RW/AM/LWB/RWB
4 fwd Hasan Sas ( free transfer)AM/FW/STK
5 Batistuta ( free transfer)STK

1 we need an experienced defender to suceed Blanc
2 a competitor for silvestre
3 a real cover for becks and giggs
4 a forward
5 a good EXPERIENCED cover for RVN

His football is fine but he is just a kid, it WILL take him time to adapt (same happened with Aimar and Saviola who were ~18) and more so in Manchester FGS!

I agree about passing the immediate impact bucket to an experienced striker. But then, that was supposed to happen last year when we signed Forlan and PDC didn't come...

How many players will we get for whatever is still unpaid from Stam? You are dreaming.

I agree about the freebies, particularly Sas. The others might be a year too late, depends on what we do in January I suppose.

You wouldnt talk like that if you know lazio's situation. Their manager(Mancini) is anti Argentinian and despite having these two world class players he doesnt play them much.

Castroman was nearly sold to Chievo at 3m last year, despite playing magnificently.

While Mancini had ridiculed Sorin by preferring Favalli. The Argentinian is rarely utilised (Chadwick played more than Sorin this season!!!) and was close in signing with Leeds for 6m.

Lazio need money and would sell their utility men for ridiculous prices

You are right about that. It's just that no one seems to know how much is still owed for Stam (guesses varied from 7m to 12m throughout the Summer and I would have expected them to at least pay SOMETHING -1m?- since then).

I hope we do get Sorin but doubt we will get a lot more than that. In fact, the concept of Lazio getting rid of the Argie brigade and send them all over here smells fishy to me.
