    Know the Opposition

Futbol Club Barcelona, commonly referred to as Barcelona and colloquially known as Barça (and nicknamed Blaugrana), is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competes in La Liga, the top flight of Spanish football. The team was founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English, German and Catalan footballers led by Joan Gamper. FC Barcelona quickly emerged as one of the leading clubs in Spain, competing in the Campeonato de Cataluña and the Copa del Rey. In 1902, the club won its first trophy, the Copa Macaya in 1901–02, and also played in the first Copa del Rey final. In 1910, the club participated in their first European competition, and in the late 1920s, Barcelona co-founded the Primera División, the top-tier in Spanish football, along with a string of other clubs (and is one of the select few to have never been relegated from the top division since its inception, along with Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid).

Domestically, Barcelona has won a record 76 trophies: 26 La Liga, 31 Copa del Rey, fourteen Supercopa de España, three Copa Eva Duarte, and two Copa de la Liga titles, as well as being the record holder for the latter four competitions. In international club football, the club has won 22 European and worldwide titles: five UEFA Champions League titles, a record four UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, a joint record five UEFA Super Cups, a record three Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, a joint record two Latin Cups and three FIFA Club World Cups. Barcelona players have also won a record twelve Ballon d'Or awards.

There is often a fierce rivalry between the two strongest teams in a national league, and this is particularly the case in La Liga, where the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid is known as El Clásico (The Classic)). From the start of national competitions the clubs were seen as representatives of two rival regions in Spain: Catalonia and Castile, as well as of the two cities. Barça's local rival has always been Espanyol. Blanc-i-blaus, being one of the clubs granted royal patronage, was founded exclusively by Spanish football fans, unlike the multinational nature of Barça's primary board. Games between the two are dubbed El derbi Barceloní (The Barcelonian derby). Barcelona plays its home games at Camp Nou.

Will be similar to the first leg.

    DDG
    AWB - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Casemiro - Fred
    Bruno - Weghorst - Sancho
    Rashford

Difference being we have a far healthier bench this time.

Can't let them control the game as Leicester did for 20-25 mins. I presume Casemiro and Martinez will start along with Varane. We've got a chance but have to defend better than we did last week. I know Sancho had a good second half on Sunday but it looks as if whichever one of he and Garnacho doesn't start plays the better!

A similar set up to the first leg.

The only real question mark is Fred or Sabitzer.

    DDG
    AWB - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Casemiro
    Bruno - Weghorst - Fred/Sabitzer - Sancho

This will probably be the lineup.

No away goal rule means that this game going into extra time is a strong possibility and honestly that could be worst outcome for us with Newcastle game being played less than 3 days later.

Let’s have it. Martinez will make a huge difference. Hopefully Antony might be back in the squad?

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Sabitzer
    Weghorst
    Bruno Rashford Sancho

    De Gea
    Dalot--Varane--Martinez--Shaw
    Casemiro--Fred
    Bruno--Weghorst--Sancho
    Rashford

Subs: Heaton; AWB, Lindelof, Malacia; McTominay, Sabitzer, Mainoo; Pellistri, Garnacho

I want Sabitzer to start but think Fred will start.

I'd be very surprised if it isn't that XI, unless Shaw's knee keeps him out. The front four will probably play in various different positions as the game goes on. Big difference from the first leg is we actually have a couple of extra experienced players to bring on and change the game in some way. In the away leg, it definitely felt like we couldn't afford to make any other changes as it would weaken us too much.

Would be nice to have one of Antony or Martial back soon as well. I expect the same XI against Newcastle but big changes against West Ham.

I just don't want extra time.

Feeling pretty good about our chances.

Hopefully we pound them and De Jong decides to come to United after all.

Huge game. Keep up the form from the Camp Nou and the 2nd half today. Casemiro suspension over, Martinez suspension over
Toughest question is who starts out of Dalot and Wan Bissaka? I'd play both Sabitzer and Fred here tbh, basically just slot Sabitzer in for Weghorst from last week. Work horse midfield with crazy pressers ahead of Casemiro.

Maybe Sabitzer for Fred, but we've never seen Sabitzer partnered with Case before, think we will go with a well known pairing.

Plus, Fred actually did well on the first game.

This is the team I’d like to see. Hopefully Antony and Martial return soon and Sancho gains consistency so we can stop playing Weghorst every goddamn game.

Has Sabitzer served his suspension or does he have more games?
I think Barca will be without Pedri and Gavi.. Dembele the crock is probably still out..

We'll trounce them.. maybe.. we should trounce them..
feck it.. this isnt the barca of old.. shit overrated team dominating a dead league. we'll destroy them.

Yes, Sabitzer is available. Gavi, Pedri, Dembele and Busques all out for Barcelona.

Edit: well, it seems like Busquets is on the bench against Cadiz and Dembele has renewed training.

Agree, would love to see Antony back so I don’t have to watch Weghorst stumble around

I feel it will be a really close game, we have Casemiro and Martinez back so will be more solid in those 2 areas compared to the first game but they might play better players in their defence and Busquets also might be back but I have faith in ETH to come up with a plan to deal with a better defence and Busquets. I would prefer Dalot over Wan-Bissaka at RB, and Weghorst and Garnacho to come on as substitutes to change the game up a bit.

Get Fred higher on the pitch to man mark and press de Jong. Score a couple after his interceptions.

Garnacho, Weghorst, McTominay and Dalot can be subbed on when/if needed.

    2-0 United (Rashford, Fred)

My first ever game at Old Trafford.

    So incredibly excited.

My first game in Old Trafford since 27th of February 2020, Also a Europa league 2nd leg tie against Club Brugge which United won 5-0. Romero,Mata,James,Bailly,Ighalo all started that match. Not greedy I'll settle for a 1-0 United win this time.

I see Barca are boosted by the return of Sergio Busquets

Came here to post that team. Can give us advantage in midfield considering both Pedri and Gavi are missing. Maybe AWB in place of Dalot for Raphinha

Raphinha will be up against Shaw, likely Fati against Dalot or AWB

Biscuits on bench tonight so he could end up starting. Hopefully not because he's an absolute cnut

Will Antony be back for this does anybody know?

Don't think he'll start either of games we've got next week, it'll be Casemiro-Fred with Sabitzer and McTominay coming on at some point.

Fati has a really poor form right now. I would be very surprised to see him in the starting lineup. Even Torres is in front of him right now.
    My prediction is:

    MAtS
    Kounde Araujo Christensen Alba
    Busquets
    Roberto Kessie Frenkie
    Rapinha Lewy

But without Pedri and Gavi, we will have even bigger problems to control the game. Busquets is always in danger to lose the ball against fast pressing teams. I expect us to lose this game under normal circumstances.

Massive game. Right now I feel the most in form team in europe are us, Napoli and Barca.

This could have been CL semi final or final the way both teams play. The first game was amazing apart from the fact we did not win.

I hope we can get the job done. Casemiro is key I think.
