    Know The Opposition

Nottingham Forest Football Club (nicknamed The Tricky Trees or The Garibaldi) is an association football club based in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England. The club was founded in 1865 when a group of players met at the Clinton Arms on Nottingham's Shakespeare Street, and J. S. Scrimshaw's proposal to play football instead was agreed. At the same meeting that the club would purchase twelve tasseled caps colored Garibaldi Red (named after the leader of the Italian Redshirts freedom fighters). Thus the club's official colors were established. In their early years Forest were a multi-sports club. As well as their roots in bandy and shinty, Forest's baseball club were British champions in 1899. Forest's charitable approach helped clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to form. In 1886, Forest donated a set of football kits to help Arsenal establish themselves – the then South London team still wear red. Forest also donated shirts to Everton and helped secure a site to play on for Brighton.

In 1878–79 season Forest entered the FA Cup for the first time. Forest's application was rejected to join the Football League at its formation in 1888. Forest instead joined the Football Alliance in 1889. They won the competition in 1892 before then entering the Football League. In 1905, Nottingham Forest toured South America to play a series of friendly matches in Argentina and Uruguay. They would be followed for other English and Scottish clubs that visited the region, contributing to the spread and develop of football in South America during the first years of the 20th century. Brian Clough was appointed manager of Nottingham Forest on 6 January 1975, twelve weeks after the end of his 44-day tenure as manager of Leeds United. Clough brought Jimmy Gordon to be his club trainer as Gordon had been for him at Derby County and Leeds United. The first trophy of the Clough and Taylor reign was the 1976–77 Anglo-Scottish Cup. Forest led the First Division for most of the season and were confirmed as 1977–78 Football League champions after a 0–0 draw against Coventry City on 22 April 1978, becoming one of the few teams (and the most recent team to date) to win the First Division title the season after winning promotion from the Second Division. Subsequently they became one of four English clubs to have won the European Cup/UEFA Champions League more than once and one of two English clubs to have won the competition back-to-back. Forest have two stars above their club crest to commemorate their two European Cup victories.

In total the club has won two European Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, one League title, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and one FA Charity Shield. The club has competed in the top two tiers of English football since its admission to the Football League, with the exception of five seasons in the third tier. Their fiercest rivalry is with Derby County, with whom they contest the East Midlands derby. The two clubs have met a total of 109 times, with Forest claiming the most victories (43), the longest win streak (5), and the longest unbeaten run (10) which runs from the 11th March 2018 to the present day. Leicester City were widely considered to be Forest's main East Midlands rivals prior to Brian Clough's success at both Derby and Forest. The ferocity is now most fiercely felt by fans who live around the Leicestershire-Nottinghamshire border.[citation needed] Forest's other regional rival is Sheffield United, based in the neighboring county of South Yorkshire. They play their home games at City Ground.

Hopefully the midfield and Rashford as a striker experiment is over but I can see ten Hag dying on that hill.

We need a change in midfield and up top. Solidify the midfield.

I hope Martial is ready to start, get Rash on the left again. Swap Antony for Mount or Sancho. If we can get Amrabat cool but Casemiro alone isn't working, put in McTominay, Fred or someone.

Ten Hag doesn't need to die on this hill

2-1 to Forest? Gibbs-White and Danilo to cut through our midfield like it's non-existent like both Wolves and Tottenham have done? Or is Ten Hag going to abandon this fecking atrocious experiment of playing with both Bruno and Mount together and let Casemiro wing it out by himself in midfield?

Please play Rashford on the left. That's all I ask. We made enough chances in the first half. Please have our best attacker in his best position to capitalize on that.

We don’t win this then we really are in the shit. Arsenal, Brighton and City in the next six games, I’m worried we could be miles off it by October.

Think it will be tight, 1-0 or 1-1.

Hopefully Hojlund is fit and looks like he can lead the line. If he is to be a sub and slowly integrated into the team over the season, we should have just bought someone ready to play from the off. Not his fault of course but we need a goal scorer now.

I’d drop Garnacho, Antony and Mount. Bring in Sancho, Martial(Hojlund if fit) and Eriksen.

He is right footed and I would ask him to put in early crosses much in the way Beckham did. Sick of seeing inverted wingers checking back over and over again.
I'm right footed too. Played a lot on the wing. Give me 50k a week I'll bang in some average crosses.

Jokes aside. We have nobody other than case and varane who can head a ball. Who's he aiming for?

    We need a shake up.

    Onana
    AwB - Varane - Martinez - Alvarez
    Casemiro - Eriksen
    Pellistri - Bruno - Rashford
    Sancho
Bring on Mount when Eriksen is tired.

    Mount - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial

Midfield presence is more important than absolutely everything else now. Martinez is a good enough passer and physical enough to excel in midfield. So play him there. He's also played there before.

This is how i would start, maybe McTominay instead of Eriksen. Wont happen though.

You don't have to put the ball in the air just get it in there between the back four and the keeper. Not every time bit selectively.

Forest, Arsenal away then Brighton home. 2 tough games after this one. Tough call whether he persists with mount, or gets Eriksen back in? Would like to see Sancho or Martial in and move Rashford wide, Garnacho is too young still and Rashford is not a CF.

ETH needs to change things. Rashford on the left at best if he starts. Sancho, Martial, any cnut up top other than Rashford.
    Mount and Fernandez isn’t working.
If we don’t win then ETH is gonna feel the pressure. We can’t be any worse for sure.

If we don't win this home match against relegation fodder then ETH needs a slap.

    Just keep it simple.

It seems United are in melt down, could this be the right time to play you lot? Probably doesn’t matter. Our first 4 away fixtures are Arsenal, United, Chelsea and Citeh. Nobody expects anything from those games - free hits for us, just try to keep the goals against respectable.

Still though Awoniyi is on fire - scored in the last 6 Prem games (8 in 6 in total) and breaking Stan Collymore’s record for us. Hopefully Niakhate will be fit, consigning McKenna to the bench at last. After the Blunts shitshow, Coops hopefully will have realised you never drop Yatesy.

Head says lose - heart says, Awoniyi scores on the break, 18% possession and park the bus. Yates dominates (kicks everyone) midfield and Henderson sits weeping in the dugout as Turner pulls out a MOM performance. Elanga off the bench to supply the 2nd

Martial has to start up front. I hate having to rely on him, but there isn't an option. Hojlund isn't going to be start ready, and Rashford the CF doesn't really work unless there is a lot of space to counter into & there won't be. It shouldn't be rocket science, but start the game with players in their best positions and take it from there.

    Onana
    Wan Bissaka Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Sancho Bruno Rashford
    Martial

Mount, Antony, Garnacho and Hojlund to come on as needed. I'd even be tempted to drop Rashford and put Sancho left with Pellistri right, but that might be too much. Just to see someone getting to the byelines on the right for once.

Can’t see us loosing this one even though we have been poor the last two games. This is where our season starts.
Don't be silly. When we play badly, we're the worst team on the planet and when we play we'll, we're title contenders. It's not like form goes up or down.

Forest was competitive away to Arsenal only losing 2-1. So I'd gladly take a one goal margin victory for United here and get 6 points on the table.

Yeah, I think Bruno can only play central. And since we need to shift away from a 433 until things settle down, moving him to #10 in a 4231 is the most sensible move.

The only thing I disagree with is Martial starting this soon after his retrun. But I wouldn't be too unhappy with either him up top or Sancho as a false #9.

The key is going to be putting Eriksen back in, and dropping Antony/Garnacho for two widemen who can retain the ball and pass it reliably to a teammate. I agree with you that Mount/Rashford are the only reasonable options right now.

All this doom mongering... This is exactly the game we need at the moment.

Forest's away approach is to sit deep and treat the ball like a live bomb, so they'll just let us have the ball for 80 minutes and then actually make an effort with 10 minutes to go. That's perfect for us as it means no pressure on our midfield, and a chance for the players to get more used to playing with each other in a match setting.

3-1 and a useful attack V defence training exercise.

Forest won't be relegation fodder this season, but fortunately their manager doesn't seem to have realised that yet and still plays cowards' football like they're newly promoted. This would be a very different game in three months time.
