Agree broadly with a few posters above, I think. Specifically, my take is:
Sell Casemiro
Sell Eriksen if he wants to go. Otherwise, he's cheap and only contracted for one more year so whatever.
Release Amrabat
Get Barkley (or similar, on the...
Any update on this? Is he still injured? Hasn't been on the bench for any recent games as far as I can see.
What a shit loan this has turned into. All for the chance of some games with League 1 strugglers. We should either have secured him...
I'm talking about midfielders whose best way of playing might be to be in a set-up where they do everything in midfield. If they're all right players, like Wijnaldum, then they'll probably be all right at doing it. If they're world class players...
I don't think we should be so disappointed about that. Overplaying an 18/19 year old is a bad idea. Kobbie's got time. And maybe being rushed into a Euros is not as good an intro to international football than spending a full two years embedding...
This is why I was hoping this call-up wouldn't happen yet. He's too young to be playing all the time. He'll have a career of soft tissue injuries and knee/ankle problems to look forward to if ETH/Southgate don't take it easy with him.
That's how Ancelotti plays him, and was always likely to because he needed another source of goals. But at Dortmund he was a #8 and even part of a double-pivot under Terzic for a while. And excelled in both roles.
...or were reports of their demise greatly exaggerated?
Gareth Southgate has the pleasant responsibility of picking a central midfield from a pool containing:
Declan Rice
Jude Bellingham
Conor Gallagher
Kobbie Mainoo
and alleged footballer...
Rashford-Hojlund.
This is one of the things Garnacho will get better at over the next two seasons. Currently he's not always clinical in these situations.
Bruno is the one you want delivering the pass to release the 2v1.
If we're talking raw...
Just about to post all of the above but you've said it better.
It's also lazy to say his 'best stuff' comes in the attacking third. Those beautiful little dribbling moments are great to watch but they aren't his key contribution. Today, his key...
He'd've had an assist as well if AWB hadn't thrown a foot at that cut-back towards McT. Scott eats those sorts of set-ups for breakfast. (Not AWB's fault, from his perspective he had to have a go at it.)
