From Goodreads: Only a decade later? Do any of the original Malazan characters, Ganoes Paran, Fiddler, Karsa Orlong, Icarium,...etc., appear in the book?
  3. Books Fantasy Reads

I dropped Tao Wong from my list of authors to read because he showed himself to be such a dreadful human being'
  4. Books Fantasy Reads

Just finished The Sword of Kaigen. I enjoyed it, and wouldn't mind reading more stories in the same (Theonite) universe. Though I was mildly surprised when I reached the end, it seemed so short to me. I guess I've become too used over the last couple of years to the mighty translated...
  5. Books Fantasy Reads

Finished Solo Leveling. I didn't realize before I started that it is LitRPG not cultivation. Still, the story was pretty straightforward and action-packed, though I wasn't particularly thrilled by the alternate storyline to end the novel. Started Reverent Insanity.

Finished Archean Eon Art. Not as good as IET's other novels, but I did enjoy it. The cultivation system is not as straightforward, with a bit more convoluted progression elements.
  7. Books Fantasy Reads

Lord of the Mysteries is a completed story in itself (1432 chapters!). However, the story picks up in the second series with a new set of characters, and with the main cast from the first series making occasional appearances so far. According to Cuttlefish, the main cast's appearances would...

Finished Lord of the Mysteries by Cuttlefish. I don't have enough words to describe how completely different this book is from the traditional cultivation stories I've read so far by Er Gen and IET. At least as absorbing as the best from Er Gen or IET, and much much more complex. It blew me...

John Bierce released the final book in his excellent Mage Errant series in mid-May. I finally found time to do a complete series re-read, and I think the final book ended the series really well. I consider Mage Errant second only to Cradle among the Western progression fantasy stories. Highly...

I finished Lord Xue Ying today. I found it fairly similar to other IET books (CD, DE, ST) in terms of the characters, power progression, fights, etc. To me, it is not quite as good as Desolate Era, but is in the same ballpark as Stellar Transformations. I'll probably read some other cultivation...

I'm into the first few pages of my next book after just finishing Waybound, Solo Levelling by Chugong. This is my first Korean cultivation novel. Actually, the choice of the next book came down to Solo Levelling or Lord Xue Ying, and I chose SL only because I wanted to experience a Korean...
  12. Books Fantasy Reads

Finished my re-read of the entire Cradle series following the release of the final book in the series, Waybound (Book 12). Overall, what a great and enjoyable series! The final book, Waybound, tied everything off nicely and left few, if any, sour notes behind*. *

    Finished AWWP.
  14. Books Fantasy Reads

Fantastic! Can't wait to get back into Cradle :D AWWP is set in the same universe and follows similar trajectories as the other Er Gen novels, RI, ISSTH, PotT (which I've not yet read), and AWE. Indeed, Wang Lin, the MC of Renegade Immortal, plays a huge role in AWWP and Meng Hao of ISSTH is...

The final entry (Book 12) in Will Wight's outstanding Cradle series came out a few days ago. Has anyone here read it yet, and how did you find it? I'm a few chapters away from finishing Er Gen's A World Worth Protecting. I'll start a re-read of the entire Cradle series as soon as I'm done AWWP...
