  1. VAR and Refs | General Discussion

Are people forgetting about the Japan goal at the world cup? The ball on the ground was definitely past the white line, but was the hovering part of the ball past the line? Difficult to tell, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. Looked close, but without definitive proof, you go with the...
  2. Club Sale | It’s done!

Pre world cup bid, hardly anyone knew anything about Qatar. Foreign Direct Investment in Qatar has more than tripled since 2020, and in per capita terms, it is currently 4th in the world for FDI. It has jumped from 10th to 3rd for Middle Eastern and North African countries since 2021. US...
  3. Club Sale | It’s done!

You don't think Russia benefited politically from the 2018 world up, or the Nazi regime from the 1936 Olympics? Sportswashing is most definitely a thing. You've even bloody mentioned soft power in your post. That's what sportswashing is about; laundering your reputation through sport whilst up...
  4. Club Sale | It’s done!

I find it absolutely incredible that you are being painted as the bad guy for pointing out that people are hypocrites for changing their stance and going against their so called principles when there's a whiff that their football club might benefit from the presence of absolute ghouls. Makes me...
  5. That time Liverpool had 2 managers at the same time (more common than originally thought!)

I don't disagree with any of that. It's admirable that they want to have a variety of perspectives, but as you say, that doesn't necessarily need to come fron the person(s) at the very top. Without looking into it, I suspect you might be correct about them both coming from a very middle class...
  6. That time Liverpool had 2 managers at the same time (more common than originally thought!)

I'm pretty sure they want one man and one woman in charge at the same time so that there's representation/a perspective from both sexes.
  7. Noble Pep Guardiola defends his underdog club - "If Newcastle waste time, we will have a yellow card for Ederson, don't worry."

Which is why the top 2 consistently accumulate more points now than they did in "Fergie's pomp"?
  8. Kevin De Bruyne

100% agree on this. I fail to understand how anyone can not grasp the point you are making. If you sign a midfield player who scored 12 goals for his previous club last season, but he only scores 1 goal for you the following season, you shouldn't be surprised that this is the case if 9 of his...
  9. Gareth Bale retires | Begins his golf career next month

I didn't say otherwise. Best was phenomenal, no doubt. My point was related to you claiming Bale's status is diminished to due him falling away relativity young. I simply pointed out that Best was essentially finished at 28 and asked if that diminished his achievements. I don't think it does...
  10. Gareth Bale retires | Begins his golf career next month

Would you (and others who criticise his early-ish drop off) say the same about George Best, who left United as a 28 year old as they were relegated and next turned up at 4th division Stockport County? It's disappointing, sure, but doesn't take away from how good he was at his peak.
  11. Gareth Bale retires | Begins his golf career next month

Considering his achievements and how good he was at his best, he is up there. People wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the suggestion if he was English.
  12. Sofyan Amrabat | signs for United on loan

I like him. Incredible at winning the ball back; Kante-esque. But I thought his passing was very hit and miss yesterday.
  13. Semi Finals: Argentina vs Croatia | Eng... France vs Morocco

100% a pen. Funny enough, people were applying the same logic to a goal scored by Newcastle against Spurs last month. Lloris came out and cleared the ball and Wilson smashed into him. Wilson then lays the ball off and Newcastle score. Goal was given and everyone has a go at Lloris for making a...
  14. Semi Finals: Argentina vs Croatia | Eng... France vs Morocco

My point is, with the stuttered run up, if the keeper doesn't commit early, the taker doesn't shoot in the same way (they may well blast it instead). So the analysis, in that context, is completely redundant.
  15. Semi Finals: Argentina vs Croatia | Eng... France vs Morocco

I might be missing something, but doesn't this fail to consider the approach taken by the penalty taker. As an example, a lot of penalty takers these days do the stuttered run up, wait for the keeper to move, then simply pass the ball into the opposite side of the goal. In this model, the pen...
