I've always assumed it's mostly because they have more fans than anyone bar us and so that's loads of people to buy papers and click on links. Rival fans always used to say the same thing about us and they were probably right; it makes sense to favour the teams with the most fans, I guess.

I remember at the time the newspapers definitely reported that we’d been offered a bye and we turned it down. Could well be nonsense but it was what we were told at the time. I assume he read the same pieces.

He is underrated. He’s a good player and one of Liverpool’s better midfielders, and I’d happily have him in our midfield, but still, he’s not a ballon d’or player for me. But I think his two goals against Barca and his exploits for the Netherlands have got him nominated. Good luck to him.
