He's a valuable player as part of a very strong set of forwards. I think last season's dip wasn't really due to Diaz's absence as much as the fact the midfield had fallen away very badly.

Not really. The squad was partially rebuilt in the summer with young players also being added. I cannot think of a less suitable comparison with Ferguson's 2013 squad. Apples and oranges.
When Liverpool won the league in 19/20 you only had 3 subs available. The advent of five subs and increased injury time has altered how games play out.
