  1. Juan Mata | Official: Signs two-year contract with option of a third

To be fair to him, he has won the UCL, UEL, several cups, the Euros and the world cup. Hardly a bad player - just needs to be used in the right way.
  2. Jonathan Wilson: football is broken

Works in rugby. England has it. France doesn't. Some players go to France for a pay day but then can't play internationally for England so many top top players don't. Wales has central contracts and the same restriction on players playing in foreign leagues turning out for the national team...
  3. Juan Mata | Official: Signs two-year contract with option of a third

Replace him in the first 11 maybe (though he isn't in the first 11), but not as a bench/squad player. Investing in the first 11 should be the priority and then we can worry about the wider squad next summer. There is a limit to the number of players we can sign this summer (both financially and...
  4. Juan Mata | Official: Signs two-year contract with option of a third

Which is basically what I said ;). Far better to have a settled replacement on the bench than to have to buy yet another player, just to sit there. Hopefully next summer one of the kids will be good enough to take the bench spot.
  5. Has Juan Mata been a flop?

Great technical player, probably one of the best 10s in the game. Awful playing RW. 3 successive managers played him RW. An average career at United.
  6. It's time we talked about doping in football

The argument has always been that PEDs are largely irrelevant to a footballer's performance - PEDs don't help you play a pass or hit the top corner. Which is of course, ridiculous, given the physical nature of the game and the fact that the fitter you are, the more likely you are to be able to...
  7. Jonathan Wilson: football is broken

    The share price.....
  8. Juan Mata | Official: Signs two-year contract with option of a third

What are the options though: 1) let him go for free and have to buy/promote a replacement. None of the kids are good enough yet and we can't afford yet another signing this summer; or 2) sign a short extension and worry about it next season. End of the day, we still need to pick a team of 11...
  9. Jonathan Wilson: football is broken

To use an example from another sport, English premiership rugby has a salary cap and a playoff system to win the league (top 4 compete in semi finals, then a final). As a result, even the 4th best team has a chance to win the league if they play well over 2 matches. The salary cap means the...
  10. How do you explain Alexis Sanchez?

I always thought it was because he came into the squad in January (always difficult), was used to playing a different way and then lost all his confidence. Since then, he's never really been fit. He's played some games, done badly so not got any confidence back, the fans/media have got on his...
  11. How much worse can it get?

I like the positive approach. Realistically this would only take a small improvement (it would have take only 2 better results in the league this season but probably 3-5 better results needed next season as the clubs around us improve). This is possible if we get rid of some of the negative...
  12. Ridiculous amount of impatience needs to end

The stat proves that we create a lot of crossing opportunities from the right, but the quality of the crossing is terrible. Therefore a new RB (or rather replacing Young with someone who can cross) will dramatically improve this stat and it follows more chances will be created from the right...
  13. How much worse can it get?

How bad can we get? Well, another unsuccessful summer (both in terms of buying and selling) and we could drop off the top 6 pace a bit. Mixed with Everton, Wolves and Leicester generally being well run and likely to improve next season...the worst we can get is probably 9/10th. Which is pretty...
  14. How do Barcelona afford their massive wages?

Yes, so they don't care about profits, dividends and share prices!
  15. How do Barcelona afford their massive wages?

There is no way Barca will ever be allowed to go bust. Even money borrowed from banks is essentially limitless as they can afford massive repayments and the club is far more valuable as a going concern as opposed to be liquidated. There is simply no incentive for the banks to liquidated it (and...
