Potential Sancho funds maybe?
Who has access to that sort of information? I know the club is on the exchange, so maybe it's made public when a transaction like this occurs?

Just don't understand how any journo would get wind of this. It's not your typical 'transfer tweet'

We literally announced it in our recent financial postings, they said the money has been taken out since then so hasn't been recorded yet.

Manchester United said it precautionarily drew funds from the RCF to increase its cash position, preserve financial flexibility and maintain liquidity during the crisis.
LONDON, May 27 (LPC) - Premier League football club Manchester United has drawn £140m of its £150m (US$184.34m) syndicated revolving credit facility (RCF), which could potentially be used to fund player acquisitions, after the club’s operating cash flows were hit by the Covid-19 crisis.

Government restrictions have seen all top-flight football games suspended in the UK since mid-March, heavily impacting broadcasting and matchday revenues. Based on government guidance and agreed medical protocols, play is expected to resume in June.

Manchester United said it precautionarily drew funds from the RCF to increase its cash position, preserve financial flexibility and maintain liquidity during the crisis.

The secured RCF, which matures in April 2025, pays a margin ranging from 125bp to 175bp over Libor/Euribor, depending on leverage.

Bank of America is facility agent and security trustee on the revolver.

Historically the RCF has been undrawn during the summer transfer window, but if the club looked to buy players with values substantially more than the players being sold, it could use cash from the facility to meet its needs.

Manchester United’s main cash requirements stem from the payment of transfer fees, capital expenditure for the improvement of facilities at Old Trafford and the club’s training complex, payment of interest on borrowings, employee benefit expenses, and the payment of dividends.

These expenses are normally met through a combination of operating cash flow and proceeds from the transfer fees.

Despite the crisis, Manchester United will pay a US$0.09 per share cash dividend on June 3.

The club also has US$425m of senior secured bonds maturing in June 2027 and a US$225m secured term loan facility maturing in August 2029. ($1 = 0.8137 pounds) (Editing by Christopher Mangham)
so Manchester United said it themselves - and they also said its not for transfers - though "Utd report" decided to ignore that part in the tweet which is pretty clickbaity

Ah thanks for the detailed reply. Interesting.

Not sure what they would be freeing up that sort of cash reserve for other than a clubs biggest annual outlay which is transfers.

You wouldn’t normally make a transfer like that for general things like staff payroll etc, so what else could it be for?

I thought he grew into the game late on . Dortmund losing Brandt was the end of the game to be honest. Brandt is the play maker for this team and him going off killed any good attacking play for Dortmund. Sancho to me has that same aura that Rooney had just before the Euros in 2004 everyone knew and was saying he looks like a Utd player and Sancho looks the same. Buy him give him 7 shirt which will sell loads and watch him tear it up for 10 years or more for Utd

I'm guessing we have lost tens of millions in terms of TV revenue and matchday revenue we may have to return some money to sponsors as well so it makes sense to have cash on hand possibly

20 years of age, with most of the top clubs in europe interested in him, and still manage to start the after-corona-season unfit and "overweight".. Not promising in my opinion. His talent is undoubted, as Grealish, but their mentality is worrying.

I just read through the text and I can’t see where it says the funds are not for transfers? Doesn’t it sort of say the opposite here: ‘Historically the RCF has been undrawn during the summer transfer window, but if the club looked to buy players with values substantially more than the players being sold, it could use cash from the facility to meet its needs.’

Or am I reading this wrong?

cashflow basically
i think we have to return something like 20m TV money and will loose another 20m or so in matchday revenue over the rest of the season behind closed doors - plus we might well have to return money to sponsors who have not been getting the exposure they paid for
Basically they have taken the money out for cashflow rather than eat into cash reserves - remember as a listed company there would be pretty serious implications for saying one thing to the market then doing another thing - if they say its for liquidity and then splaff it on transfer funds investors and even authorities might be asking questions so if they say its for liquidity for cashflow to the market then thats what its for

Sort of a harsh judgement but when you think about players who are 100% commited to their shape like Cristiano you can spot the difference. Guy has never been overweight for a day in his life.

Would you rather give Sancho a free role at United or Pogba?

I feel we can't have both in the same lineup. I'd go with....

Martial
Rashford Bruno Sancho
Fred McTominay
New LB Maguire Tuanzebe AWB
De Gea

Move Pogba on. He had his chances to become a real player.

Watch France when you get a chance. Pogba could easily play with a Sancho type

According to Sport Bild, Mundo Deportivo has reported that United wants to offer.... wait for it.... Alexis Sanchez  to lower the fee for Sancho.

„Mundo Deportivo“ berichtet nun, dass es im Klub Gedankenspiele geben soll, Mega-Flop Alexis Sanchez (31) anzubieten und damit die Sancho-Ablöse drücken zu können!

I am pretty sure that BVB would'nt even take him for free (because of his spectacular wages).

That midfield won't create enough chances.

I don't get posts like this, we've hardly struggled to score goals this season with that midfield minus Bruno and yet you're adding Bruno and Sancho to it and it's still not enough? I agree from a squad perspective Bruno will need a backup which is where someone like Grealish will come in (as Pogba's replacement) but that XI looks good

And besides when you have that front 4 that midfield doesn't need to create chances

This is an unprecedented time we're living in where football may well have been secondary to just keeping his head above board in terms of mental health. He's also young and inexperienced as a human being as a whole, let alone a professional footballer, which should be considered, too, on top of that, he's in a foreign country, where, even if he is settled, he's not likely to have the default creature comforts he would do.

Food could well be a coping mechanism, or, he may just be undisciplined, but this is such a unique situation, players can well be forgiven for coming back discombobulated and in need of finding their fitness and feet.

Sort of a harsh judgement but when you think about players who are 100% commited to their shape like Cristiano you can spot the difference. Guy has never been overweight for a day in his life.
Ronaldo is a vain narcissist who will, without a doubt, be in tip-top condition in retirement. His commitment whilst playing is exemplary, but I very much doubt it's the sole motivation or reason he looks the way he does.

The midfield will change game to game depending on opponent. There will be games where Matic may play alongside McSauce or Fred to nullify other attacks.

There will be games against the lower half of table where it will be 11 men behind the ball and we have to try and figure it out. So having the option of Pogba AND Bruno puts us in a different stratosphere.

Cannot wait to see it personally. Feeling like this squad could do some damage next season, and that is before any transfers.

Ffs, Pogba isn’t a real player now?

When fit he’s still the best player in the squad.

Re: the credit line tap, most companies were doing it during COVID peaks when things were really uncertain. Everyone expected liquidity to be a problem and maxed out existing credit lines they had and as a business United aren't any different.

I doubt they'll use that to buy players - more like player wages, employee wages etc. if they really become cash strapped.

It did OK the past 15 games without Pogba.

And that was without adding Sancho. We'd survive.
I am not ok with a midfield of Bruno, Fred and McT. We can't rely on Bruno to be the sole creator from midfield. Incase if he gets injured, Periera or Lingard will play as a CAM.

Adding Sancho will add creativity to the side but is it alone enough?

Martial, Rashford, Sancho and Bruno alone good enough to break teams that defend deep? Don't you want to add an extra playmaking CM to the midfield area?

For Liverpool the front 3, LB, RB and sometimes Van Djik are the chance creators.

City have Aguero, Sterling, Mahrez, Bernando and KdB.

If we are going to sell Pogba, we need to buy a player like SMS or Saul. That's what I have been saying.

I believe Shaw and Lindelof to be the weak links here, but that is still a very tasty lineup on paper!

Pogba doesnt need a free role. Neither does Sancho. Ole needs to give them defined roles.

Pogba has played with Mbappe and works really well.

A new LB? why?

Martial, Rashford, Fernandes, Sancho, Pogba as the front 5, 1 midfielder out of Matic/Fred/Mctominay. Simple.

Fernandes has shown he has plenty of work rate as an attacking midfielder, and I have faith in Pogba doing his fair share of the work. He can be more disciplined if he has good attackers ahead like with France.
