The 2020s is the wrong era to make a live-action comedy. Twitter wokeness is killing the ability to ability to push boundaries. Since humour is intrinsically linked to crossing over the line of social norms, making fun of those social norms can inadvertently turn into one of the worst things you can do right now.
That being said, animated comedies can still get away with storylines that an acted show would never be able to broach. But that's obviously not possible for show like this one.
Maybe Bel Air is onto something by taking a detour into drama. They wouldn't be able to recreate the original even if they wanted to.
