Won't work. This series was loved because people loved the characters and the actors playing them... It's like trying to reinvent Friends.

Feet up at home.
I can't see this working at all. The stories might copy ok but it was always about the actors and their interaction.

You won't get a better smart arse than Will whilst also being young and vulnerable and apologising seriously.

You won't get a better Carlton - he was amazing.

The Uncle was fantastic.

And I'd better not say much about Hilary.

How many reboots have been successful for real? I can only think of Hawaii Five-0 right now.

Fresh prince is the greatest sitcom series ever made. They cant possibly come close the the original. So many heartfelt episodes. That one with his dad still hits me. Plus the people of today can't make a good comedy movie or show to save their lives barring B99.

The whole thing has come about from this trailer the guy made as a school project. Will Smith saw it on Youtube and got in touch with the guy to see could they work it into a concept.

I was sceptical to be honest but the trailer looks absolutely class.

Yeah that episode was arguably the best one. That was the brilliance of the show. You could have over the top acting but mixed in with very real emotion, also dealing with issues which society still faces today. The other great episodes were Will getting shot and Carlton accidentally overdosing.

One "remake" that went well was Lethal Weapon. It was pretty good, but then Clayne Crawford was fired and I stopped watching it as soon as I heard the news.

My wit's end
The 2020s is the wrong era to make a live-action comedy. Twitter wokeness is killing the ability to ability to push boundaries. Since humour is intrinsically linked to crossing over the line of social norms, making fun of those social norms can inadvertently turn into one of the worst things you can do right now.

That being said, animated comedies can still get away with storylines that an acted show would never be able to broach. But that's obviously not possible for show like this one.

Maybe Bel Air is onto something by taking a detour into drama. They wouldn't be able to recreate the original even if they wanted to.

I liked the trailer but I hope the show doesn't focus too much on basketball and Will succeeding because of sport.

Started watching this on NOWTV, and it's it's fecking excellent.

Genuinely surprised at this take. Was expecting a slightly more serious version of blackish but they've modernised and dramatized the fresh Prince brilliantly.
