Serious question: why would you bother trying to score goals now when you can just kick the ball at a defender's hands and get a guaranteed penalty?

You still have to manage to hit the hands. Imagine lobbing the ball at the arm and missing, how dumb you'd look and how mad your manager would be for giving the ball away like that.

At this rate the name of the game will be changed - from football to handball. It's beyond ridiculous now.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
So Walton has just been on saying it’s because Doherty’s hand is in an unnatural position. His hand is out because he’s touch tight to the attacker, it is in a natural position in terms of defending. It isn’t their to make his body bigger to block a shot. It’s absolutely ridiculous. These rule makers have no clue.

I dunno, I guess you;d miss quite a lot, but the chances would be much easier to come about. You could probably have a good 30 attempts at hitting arms, but you don't get 30 changes created in a match very often, and its not like all of them chances will go in. I genuinely think we'll see managers telling players to take advantage of it, especially against packed boxes.

Since when is it natural to run around with your arms pinned to your sides like a penguin?

This Southampton pen is one of the most ridiculous calls I've ever seen. If there ever was a situation that proves the rule needs to change it's this one, absolutely laughable to give a penalty for something like that.

I do think people will actually start doing this a fair bit this season... Not all the time, but there will be attempts, and successful ones at that.

If they're going to be daft about this rule then all penalty box handballs should just be IDFK in the box (unless it prevents a clear goalscorer opportunity)

Wouldn't have thought they could make the handball rule worse. When I heard it was the t shirt line it sounded like a good change but didn't realise it meant that no matter how it hits you away from this line its a penalty, seemingly no matter what. Absolutely crazy

Is that the actual rule anymore?

Serious question.

Is natural Vs unnatural position actually anything to do with it?

Why not just hits hand = free kick / pen

Unfortunately, that is more or less the new rule, and it's absolutely wank

It's a big like hockey. Any touch with the feet in the D and it's a penalty corner. So teams constantly try to aim for opponents feet once they are in the D. It's crazy.

HELLO
Is this the same way they officiated them in Serie A last season?

Refs for far too long were giving handball pens that they shouldn't have, by caving to fan pressure. Now they've created this very situation where basically you will have to cut your fecking hands off to avoid penalties being given. They should have went the other way, handballs are supposed to be deliberate for fouls to be given. The nonsense of Serie A last season with millions being given just ruins games.

Why though?

We don't have any of this intent stuff anywhere else in football.

Striker kicks it, and comes off a defenders foot and goes behind the goal line... Stop the game! Let's try to work out whether the defender meant to put his foot there. Was his foot in an unnatural position? He is just moving his foot in a normal running way, he isn't trying to block the shot! Let's slow it down to 1000x slower speed. Look you can see he has stretched his toes to try and block the shot. Okay corner! What that was never a corner!

No.

Just make it simple.

Hand+ball = free kick / pen.

That's exactly what happened in Brazil a few years back . It got to the stage players didn't even care about trying to score they were more interested in trying to flick the ball off defenders arms to get a pen so they changed the rules .
I said yday and I stick by it that it was one of the worst pen decisions I've ever seen .

The rule needs changing but it's on the FA to take a tool designed to help and turn it into a hindrance.

The players did it in Spain when handball was an automatic yellow regardless of intent. They just aimed for the hands

You can't just freeze frame the game and say, "Oh his arm is in an unnatural position"
The game is played at an insane pace now and players obviously have their arms out for balance, are rapidly changing direction etc
The Southampton penalty was laughable

Yeah they don’t have to approach a player waving their arms about like they do sometimes. But if they’re just running alongside a metre away, there’s nothing they can do.

Just make all contact a handball, but don't reward it with a pen unless it's blocking a shot on goal. Also, no cards.

It's a rule so moronic I can't fathom how grown-up men managed to make it up. I always said there were too many handball penalties in football given the fact that 99 out of 100 handballs are unintentional, and that most handball penalties do not stop an obvious goalscoring opportunity, making the punishment excessive compared to the crime. Instead they've changed it to give way more handball penalties. It's just unfathomably stupid and every sane person can see it.

My suggestion: Unless obviously intentional, a handball in the penalty area should not be punished with a penalty but an indirect free-kick.

Why does VAR not let Chelsea retake the pen again today when Alison took a step forward before diving like every single keeper will do and like DDG did yday .. This is why VAR needs to feck off cause it's one rule one day and another rule the next

No it isn't. He had one foot on the line. That is within the rules. DDG didn't have either.
