How worked up do you get watching your team play?

As the title really.

If you watch at home for instance can you sit through a big game or do you end up going out of the room, turning it off, shouting and generally behaving abnormally?

The best bit here is when he pulls his hair back around 1:10 mark.

Plenty of swearing by the way so keep the volume down.

As a teenager I went mental regularly when United were playing  As an adult though, I watch the game calmy like a normal person. I might resort to pacing around the living room if it’s squeeky bum time towards stoppage time and United are holding on for dear life.

Calmly. I’m not an expressive person so I’ve never shown any outward emotion when watching football.

Although as a kid, I’d cry after every loss to Liverpool  I can remember a couple of 2-0 defeats in the 90s that made me upset

Depends on what's at stake. For important games I'm pretty calm, but go mental in the meaningless ones.

Over the past few years I've tried to avoid all other football altogether so that I'm not screaming at the tele like a mad man when watching united play.
But over the last year or so, I've become emotionally detached from united, I still watch us play and celebrate goals but I don't get worked up when we lose or play badly. Mostly it is because I looked at the players and the people involved at the club and think to myself that if they don't give a feck, why should I.

Now I watch Barca on a regular basis and I've stopped buying all the garbage about a manager needing time to stamp their visible identity on the team. I've realized that either the players aren't good enough, or the manager. It doesn't take an entire season to see the difference a manager is making on the team.

Occasional screaming at the telly if really called for. But ever since I got smart enough to understand that moping around for 2-3 days because of a team I have no influence on lost a game of football is wasting my time and energy, I just shrug it off mostly, thinking that they'll win the next one (eventually).

If it's against a big rival I'll get pretty amped up. Really poor obvious refereeing decisions will get me worked up too. But other than that I'm pretty calm. I can accept poor performances and losses and just accept it for what it is.

not bothered, shouting at the telly isn't going to change anything, still don't watch MoTD if we lose though

i’d like to say i’m really calm and not bothered about whatever happens but all that goes out of the window once those shin pads are slipped on and the smell of deep heat permeates the living room.

I'm a bit bipolar on this regard.

Some games I can get through calmly even mildly celebrating when we score, others I'm like Conte on speed.

I threw my remote when Robben scored against us in CL

This one

His celebration made me so angry, he was taking the piss. But to be fair I was like 13 or 14 and had to stay all night in order to watch the game at 1 am, with school coming up in the morning at 8. So normal reaction I guess. All that effort to see Baldy mocking me.

As a kid I'd be screaming and shouting and jumping whenever I watched us play. Now for big games I'll do a bit of shouting when we score and the odd feck off and hand wave when something bad happens but yet, pretty calm now. Though if it's a really big game than I'm constantly on edge. The Europa League final shootout a few years ago I remember I was pacing the whole time and ended in failure.

Though I remember Bosnia in the 2014 world cup ended in actual tears between myself and my dad after that bullshit game against Nigeria, that ref is never forgiven.

When I was younger, and United were dominating, I’d get worked up by defeats - it would affect my weekend - but just feel relieved at winning.

Now, as I approach 40 years old, its the opposite. I get frustrated by defeats / late equalisers against, but I quickly get over it. But good wins put me in a great mood for a while.

Expectations have changed, I guess.

I get so worked up I sometimes just hit a copper for the sake of it. Win, lose or draw.

Post fergie I’ve become a lot less angry when watching games as my expectations are much much lower.
It’s when we start getting good and I get some hope back that I get more engaged with it.
a good result on Sunday and I’ll be properly back on it again!

I’m usually just very zoned it, don’t like other people talking. Just all in on the game. If we score against pool or city though, more so in recent years because we’ve been underdogs, I have been occasionally known to scream and go on a little jog.

For the Jets, its mostly just lots of abuse. All towards my own team. Although the browns game a week ago was euphoria.

The Knicks I can’t even be bothered with anymore, just a joke. So I’ll watch but I’m usually on my phone unless I’m actually at the game.

I used to be like this under Fergie / early days of Moyes and LvG but a decade of hurting has really changed this. I feel kinda shitty just after a bad performance but mostly forget about it and go on with my weekend afterwards.

Even the come back wins are starting to lose their shine. We're shit and aren't getting close to the top sides so who cares if we beat Southampton after we go 1-0 down.

I watch games alone now and don't show as much emotions unless something crazy happens. Even when we score I don't celebrate as much as I used to, I guess our performances over the last decade has taken a toll.

Those early season loses - especially to Brentford really got to me for some reason - I haven't been that mad at the club and players in a long, long time.

When I was younger I’d smashed my phone once and also once fractured my hand a bit punching a wall.

During LvG’s tenure I would mostly doze off before HT.

By the time Ole was sacked, I was zen as feck. Would have a chuckle to myself, brush it off then turn off the télé and go for a smoke.

It varies quite a bit. There was a period under Ole and Ralfy, where it was just total apathy. I think I barely reacted, when we got smashed 4-0 by Brighton last season.

Now performances and expectations are up, and I'm more invested, because I can actually see it going the right way. There is potential here. So, the Arsenal game was probably the most worked up, I've been for years. Haven't celebrated a goals like I did Antony's for a long time. Felt good.

I used to get pretty animated but after watching us play so poorly for so long, I think my standards have dropped so I'm quite calm watching most matches now. When I'm watching on TV it's easy to tune out when the we're having one of those games. It's a different matter in the stadium obviously.

Similar to me, add to that those literal fights between Polish 13-15 years old lads (me included) that were willing to get into the fist fight to defend the honour of the club they have never seen live  that was passion.
On the night of the final in Moscow I was crying like never before and only had a few moments like this later on.
These days I am much more calm, but whenever I visit OT or when I'm in a brief spell of thinking United is actually coming back to being relevant, I still go ballistic.

Very zoned in, focused, looking quite grumpy. Don't take it as seriously as I did in my youth, grown up quite a bit. Will still shout at the tv every now and again, but probably not as expressive as I was when I was a nipper. It's still not a fun experience though! Certainly not for the last 9 or so years

These days I find it difficult to concentrate and spend a lot of time on my phone. Not really immersed in the game at all. I couldn't tell you if half of the United players played well or not. I look at the TV when it sounds like something exciting might happen or is happening.

In the past I'd have 2 modes. A drunken animated one where I'd enjoy it, never really angry, or a quiet analytical one where I'd think about tactics, potential subs etc. Either way I'd have my eyes on the match for every second

I'm fairly relaxed but sit me directly next to a casual fan and they'd say i'm animated and shouty.

I used to get really upset over results but that has cooled over the last 4-5 years. The last goal i went mental for was Evra vs Bayern.

I get more frustrated by bad football, like when a player doesn't see an obvious pass that would give a tap in and goes for glory or someone has a poor touch and we get countered.

I generally stand up in front of my sofa and wave my arms around to direct the pass ... I'm generally standing for 60 minutes out of 90.

I remember games under mourinho with Fellaini in midfield. One game against West Ham away I remember where I was when I watched it. I was so upset, so pissed off, shouted at the screen so much, ended up with a headache.

I have posted here before once where watching us was giving me so many headaches, cuz I would get so upset and shout. This is mainly under mourinho towards the end and under Ole with Pereira/Lingard before buying Bruno in Jan.

Last year I quickly realized we were done under Ole. Have had an air of resignation for the last year.

Fairly excited for the goals against Liv and Ars

8 years of training during post Fergie era has made me calm/cool as feck, even when we are losing big. There is frustration for sure, but I blasted that all on the players performance threads and post match players rating. It’s just a daily routine thing, I’ve somehow found my peace with our team.

An increasing level of apathy even whilst we’ve been having a successful period. Certainly nowhere near the level of my teens and very early 20s. I definitely don’t go on my phone or anything during the game but I think the last period where I felt intense emotion was the Karius CL final. Was distraught after that.

I’m not sure what to attribute it to. Maybe just having far more things that occupy mind space in my day to day life but I’ve missed games this season (before I realised we probably weren’t going to be up to much this time out) because of having other things on and generally not been arsed. Whereas before it was always how do I work things round the football.

I think it might just be more to do with the current state of play of the sport itself. It’s hard to enjoy on any level - especially when you know to win the biggest prizes you have to be perfect in every area of the pitch on and off when you’re up against a side that’s won 5? out the last six in the league. I enjoyed the league win and the CL win and being able to see us win one in my lifetime was something I always wanted.

However there’s just no real enjoyment to it, I’ve loved the football played and seeing fantastic players on the pitch. But interacting with sports fans can kill your buzz too - just people obsessed with seeing their team win and memeing friends/family. This while spending the entire game on Twitter.

See, when we were shite in a perverse sort of way I kind of enjoyed these things. Maybe it was naivety but there was always a sense of hope. I think with the amount of shadiness in football now, FFP’s death the ESL attempt and the various nefarious regimes in the league, that fairness and feeling of optimism has completely dissipated even when we’ve been doing well.

Won't often agree with a scouser but you have summed things up pretty nicely with that post. Least you guys actually have a proper recruitment structure not jobs for the boys fc like us.

It affects me wayy too much to the point where my whole day or weekend is made or broken based on of Sporting win or lose.

Believe it or not it’s gotten better compared to when I was a teenager because at that time it was like walking around with a rainy cloud when Sporting lost:
