With Der Keiser's passing I was thinking the 20s have reeled in some big names. And we have only just completed 4 years of the decade.

Carbajal
J.Charlton ---- Beckenbauer (C) ---- Mihajlović
Stiles
---Suárez ------- B.Charlton
Maradona
Rossi ---- Müller ---- Pelé

Some others: Greaves, Zagallo, Francis, McQueen, Vialli and F. Lee. Probably forgotten some names. All these were long before my time so sorry if I've butchered the lineup.

Does 2010s with Cruyff, Di Stefano, Eusebio, Socrates etc. rival the 20s? Any other decades that stand a chance?

Hard to rival a team with Beckenbauer, Maradona and Pele, three names that will be in pretty much everyone’s GOAT XI.

Add Gerd Muller, a top 2 or 3 striker of all time and it’s hard to argue against this being the best ‘deceased’ team.

The vast majority of famous players / greats or whatever played in the 50s / 60s onwards so it seems unlikely a previous decade will rival this one. Maybe in fifty years time when Ronaldo and Messi are dying we can revisit this.

I had a quick look and nothing matches this 2000s or earlier as most players dying of old age from the late 50s to 70s eras have all died in the last 10 years or so. 2000s has some standouts like Best, Puskas, Matthews, Facchetti etc but not enough to compete with this team.

Yeah I said the same, it's the same as recently more celebrities are dying than previously. Was it 2016 where loads more died than before. Makes sense really since prior to the 60s celebrities weren't really a thing. I guess it was wide spread TV ownership that did it and we are finally at a time when those early celebrities or sports professionals are at an age where lots will start to die.

Incredible team! Would you get away with swapping Wim Suurbier in for Jack Charlton?

Might be a bit too attacking I suppose?

Yeah the 2020s seem a bit overpowered.

I was going to suggest odd/even years within the same decade but the 3 main cnuts all went in even years so they ruined that idea too.
