It's always been a surprise to me how shit India always seem to be.

Every Indian I've ever met loves football.
Same with China and you can’t say there was no investment or no passion for the sport. These two countries with relatively solid football culture and combined population just short of 3 billion managed to score a total of 0 goals in the group stages against Qatar, Tajikistan and Lebanon & Australia, Syria and Uzbekistan. Mental!

Today both Syria and Palestine have qualified as 2 of the best 4 teams finishing third...

Edit: I added South Korea and Jordan, as I think they can't be eliminated. Both are guaranteed top 3 finish. And ending up behind Indonesia has become extremely unlikely.

This tourney, yes similar, even though China got 2 points and finished third... (eliminated still following Palestine's victory) but not historically... China qualified for the 2002 World Cup and was decent those years. They hosted the Asian Cup and reached its final in 2004. India is too poor.

And Indonesia (280M people), I am sure if we even can beat Faroe Islands.

I really hope that Zion Suzuki has been removed from our scouts' radar now. 3 games, 3 big mistakes directly leading to a goal. It's not like he has had much to do either. Surely the highest mistakes per involvement ratio I've seen from a professional goalkeeper.

Buzzing if we get that Korea v Japan last 16 tie.
I think we might miss out unless Jordan takes a gamble and play for a draw, but they'd be crazy to do that. One late goal from Bahrain and they are out. Alternatively South Korea can destroy Malaysia by 3 goals minimum (possibly 4). Although I don't see the incentive when the reward is playing Japan instead of Iraq.

It's good for the tournament that neither South Korea nor Jordan can relax tomorrow. I hate it when teams half-ass it because they are already where they want to be.

If I understand the schedule correctly then South Korea wont be able to face Japan before the grand final if they finish 2nd. It's a dream final, but a lot can happen before that..

Wrong. They are both qualified, worst case scenario for either is third with 4 points which is better than both China and Indonesia…They can both lose and still qualify as 2nd an 3’d… Both S.Korea and Jordan have 4 points and thanks to Bahrain’s late win vs Malaysi, the latter can’t reach 4 points.

There are 2 spots left and it is between Indonesia, Bahrain, Oman and Kyrgyzstan.

Regarding S. Korea vs Japan. They would have been guaranteed not to meet had they both finished top of their groups. It would also be the case if S.Korea finish 2:d. But theoretically they can still end up third, and that would mean playing Qatar in the R of 16 and later playing Japan in the semifinals.

It's always been a surprise to me how shit India always seem to be.

Every Indian I've ever met loves football.

There has to be a few people in the English game who qualify via the grandparents rule, don't they ever get picked for the national team or are there literally none to pick on the first place?

Edit, I've googled this and found out that India won't call up anyone with dual nationality. Mental.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...reach-world-cup-picking-overseas-born-players
Even though I don’t know if there are good Indian players with dual citizenship but it’s mental that they don’t … for the first time ever Syria have called up players with dual citizenship thanks to Cuper he worked on this and called Syrian players playing in South America plus they called a very good Syrian-Swedish defender named Aiham Ousou playing in Slavia Praha … right away he dramatically changed the quality of the weakest line in Syria and became the strongest one

also they called a player who spent 2 years in the youth team of Juventus named Ammar Ramadan with the other South Americans they made huge upgrade even though they just joined and they need time to adapt so I expect good performance in the WC qualifiers

Also they are negotiating with the player who scored the 4th goal against United for Copenhagen named Roony Bardghji but I doubt that he will accept as he’s very bright talent and I think he will wait to take a change to play for Sweden

Also they are negotiating with Brighton midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud but they need to check the legal part as I think he played for Germany youth team … Syria had very bad experience in this issue as once they called up a Syrian-Swedish player named George Mourad and after he played they realised that he represented Sweden once and therefore Syria got banned and was eliminated from WC 2014 qualifiers … very bad local federation they have

How can teams in this modern time can get away with this. It was obvious they were playing in 4th gear.
Jordan did the same thing… it makes sense. Bahrain won the group & are gonna face Japan, and if they miraculously go through they will play Iran im the quarters.

Waiting to see if KSA do the same. If they win their group they are gonna face S.Korea and then Australia in the quarters.
if they lose this game they may get an easier path to the semis, but in the semis they play the winner of Japan/Iran.

The Knock-out rounds started yesterday:

Australia 4-0 Indonesia

Tajikistan 1 (5) - (3) 1 UAE

** The Tajiks are the true cindrella story of the tournament. Their debut AFC cup appearance, made it out of the groups, and now eliminated UAE (deservedly so as well, not parking the bus). Now they'll await the winner of Iraq-Jordan in the quarter finals.

Iraq is trailing Jordan 0-1 with 60 minutes on the clock.

What an absolute joke of a referee. Sent off for celebrating.
I still don't understand why he got sent off for that. The referee looked pissed off too! Was the celebration some kind of political message?

Asian Cup has been such a surprise so far with the quality on display and then mix in the passion and emotions these teams posses. What a game that was

As far as I understood the Iraqi fans were teasing the Jordanian fans in regards of one traditional food Jordan have ( one way of a chant ) … so when Jordan scored they celebrated as if they are eating that food … then when the Iraqi player celebrated the same it was as if he’s mocking the traditional Jordanian food / the way they are eating it

It’s funny but how the ref got all these … he doesn’t even speak Arabic

It's stupid. He was already on a stupid yellow card, this was not offensive at all.
