    --------------------Onana--------------------
    Dalot- Kambwala-Evans-Antony
    -----------Casemiro-Amrabat----------
    --------------------Mainoo-------------------
    Amad-------------McT---------Garnacho

I'd much rather have an interesting disaster where we try something new than a continuation of our current train wreck. If we get tonked 4-0 so be it!

Varane has been playing for a few matches so he needs a midweek rest. 2 games a week should never be an option with his recovery record the last few years.

Bruno could do with having some time to recharge.

As long as they are fit for City at the weekend.
I'm far more concerned about this game, and the more winnable league games after City, to be honest.

This is a knockout cup game, with our last remaining hope of silverware on the line. And we can afford to lose a tough match like City away and still finish 4th or 5th - it's getting wins in those muçh more winnable league games either side of it that was important. And the injuries have already meant we messed up the Fulham game.

Correct - extra time and penalties. Fun fact - we haven't lost a Pen shootout since the mid 90’s - currently 10 undefeated.:smirk:
That's really impressive stat. So basically your younger fans don't even know how it feels to lose a penalty shootout.

On game: weird to see Bruno injured, 1st time in his United career. Think over his whole career he also got injured 1-2 times in total.

Onana, Dalot, Kambwala, Evans, Lindelof, Casemiro, Mainoo, Eriksen, Garnacho, Rashford, McTominay.

Maybe Amrabat instead of Eriksen but that's about it. Lindelof at LB is ugly but our LBs are injured and ten Hag won't try something else.

I feel sorry for our younger fans - they experienced losing a L1 playoff Semi to Yeovil Town, getting battered by Oldham and the team downing tools vs Wrexham to get the manager sacked. It’s only us old farts that were around for the glory years that have anything to shout about. Anyway, there’s always watching England to teach ‘em about shootouts.

Tough game without half the regulars and no serious goal threat, 2-1 Forest

Be interesting to see how we perform tonight. If the reports are true about some players wanting a day off after the loss to Fulham and it got rejected… they won’t be happy. He’d of lost halve the dressing room and they’ll stop playing for him. Think the only ones still in his corner at the minute are Mainoo, Garnacho and Højlund.

If we want the best from this injury hit team. We need to pack the middle with workers and creativity on the wings. Move Lindelöf into the middle so Dalot can play left back. Kambwala could deputise on the right as he likes to break forward anyway. Having Varane next to him will help. Play Mctominay up front and he’ll naturally play a false 9 anyway id imagine. Let Amad and Garnacho play their natural game out wide causing the attacking threat.

    Kambwala Varane Lindelof Dalot

    Mainoo Casemiro Amrabat

Can you imagine how unbearable it's going to be if we don't win this and lose at the weekend?
The most unbearable thing will be the glee from a lot of the posters on here.

They are shit, but you know they will be up for it and put the effort in. We will spend 75% of the game being second best, as usual. Then we will win with a goal in ET. Hopefully. Probably.

No Rashford as a striker, please, thank you. Don't care who, just not him.

I can't stand Rashford up top but genuinely who are the other options? Any half-decent talents we had in the youth are out on loan and Martial still a sick-note.

I just don't see what the alternative is so it's quite a grim situation given Rashford's form/attitude

What’s the conceivable line up? Reading Maguire, Varane and Bruno are all potentially out, on top of Mount, Shaw, Malacia, AWB, Martinez, Hojlund and Martial?

It’s grim and even though we couldn’t win it anyway, it’s always super grim when all possibilities of success are done by February.

Here's how I'd lineup without Bruno, Varane and Maguire.
    Onana
    Dalot Kambwala Evans Lindelof
    Mainoo Casemiro Amrabat
    Amad
    Garnacho Rashford
You just know Forest will be energized with our shambles of a performance last game and come at us. So I'd be compact with the back line and 3 midfielders in front of them, have Amad roaming a bit looking to release either Garnacho or Rashford on the counter, without slacking on their defensive duties as well. If Forest drop back, then you drop Amrabat in the six and have an attacking front five of Kobbie, Casemiro, Amad, Rashford and Garnacho.

I'm afraid the press have pressured EtH into a corner of having to play Antony though, and he's also likely to continue his infatuation with McT hoping for another lucky goal. I can see him going for the lineup below and us struggling to get hold of the game:
    Onana
    Dalot Evans Lindelof Amrabat
    Mainoo Casemiro
    Antony McT Garnacho
    Rashford

If we had a manager with charisma and the ability to energize players, we could utilize some of our younger talents and boost their self-esteem. This could, in turn, allow us to rest some of the players who feature in every game, thereby preventing injuries. Certain other managers possess that kind of personality and can bring out the best in players through sheer belief.

However, if you're constantly appearing grim and chewing your gum in rhythm with your thoughts, rather than displaying a bit of positivity and gusto, it's challenging to instill faith in the players.

He would likely stick with the same team, employing identical tactics and formation. If we lose, the response is that we are missing players, and it's deemed to have "looked good." If we win it's more of an "I told you so, that's how football works" attitude and everyone is wrong except him.

I still really hope that we win and that we get a good feeling with us from City Ground! Would be lovely if Mainoo could assist Forson!

Pack the midfield and play it safe.
We’ll be playing two from Yates, Danilo and Dominguez. All 3 are quick, mobile and can run all day.
The match in December was Ericsson and Mainoo vs Yates and Danilo - we won the midfield battle in the first half - then Ten hag replaced Mainoo with McT who went missing. In the 2nd half especially we had acres of space in midfield so packing that area may be a good option.
